Markian
It’s been 2days since the party and for some reasons best known to me, I can’t get myself to look at Livy especially after what Daniel had told me went down that night.
So the next day, I finally got a text from him in the afternoon telling me to meet him at the beach bar not far from the hotel.
When I walked in there I saw him sitting at the far end of the corner, so I walked straight up to him and he offered me a sit.
He had a cut on his left brow, his lips and on his left cheek and that made me pleased. I sat down and he ordered a beer for himself and a glass of whiskey for me.
“So why did you ask to see me today- unfailingly?” he asked going straight to the point.
That was good because I don’t like to beat about the bush, so I replied,
“Heather told me you and your father are rooting for her impeachment so you can become CEO of S. Group. I don’t know what lies or promises your father have filled your head with, but you need to stop here. Heather is your sister and you know her more than anyone else. She’ll fight you back if you dare to touch what is hers.” I warned not wanting to make it seem like that was my battle.
“You’re right about the fact that she is my sister and I… well, I know her better than anyone else. But you’re wrong when you say S. Group is hers because S. Group belongs to me, it always has and always will be. She was merely just sitting there temporarily as CEO, but its high time i take responsibility for my company now. So if she wants to fight me… I’ll just like to see her try.” He claimed calmly and boldly.
He has changed. His attitude and the way he speaks now is just full of spite.
“If your father have put you up to these then you need to stop. Heather loves you so much, and after everything she has done for you this is how you repay her? You know everything, you know how much she sacrificed for S. Group and just how much your father wants to get his hands on my Castlehill, so why are you aiding him tear our family farther apart?” i questioned.
“Markian, Markian, Markian. There you go again ranting on about my dad doing this and that, I’m honestly sick of hearing you say awful things about him. You think your father is better than mine don’t you? You think it’s just my dad that’s trying to ruin our family, what about yours?” He questioned upset.
Why is he digressing from the topic here?
“What about my father?” I questioned back curious to hear what he has to say.
“Who do you think was responsible for my exile to the Caribbeans when it was time for me to become CEO, leaving it in the hands of dear my sister?” He asked while I stared at him puzzled.
What the hell is he talking about? Exile? No one sent him away, he left- ran away and left no trace, so Heather had to become CEO even though she didn’t want it.
“It was your father Markian. Somehow, he managed to convince me and turned me against my own father by telling me that my father only wanted Castlehill- your position, and that he’s planning to use me to get it. Back then I was scared and didn’t want to hurt you most of all, so he suggested i leave if I don’t want you to get hurt. Haven’t you ever wondered how I got the funds to take care of myself back then? It’s not like I had money stashed away to sustain me. But even back then you never cared enough to even pretend to look for me. It was as though you were waiting for me to leave all along so you could go right ahead and date Felicity, even though you knew very much how I felt about her…”
What?! Ok, I admit I dated Felicity when he disappeared, but how was I suppose to find him when he didn’t leave any clue behind that he wanted to be found. And why on earth would my father do such a thing in the first place?
“… So, instead of always blaming my dad for everything wrong, try asking you father some questions.” He added.
“So this is some kind of revenge for dating Felicity after you left? Or revenge that my father asked you to leave?” I questioned just to be sure where his anger was coming from.
He laughed at me hysterically like I just made a good joke, and even though he was laughing his eyes were not. They were filled with hatred. Why were they filled with so much indignation towards me? What could I have possibly done to make him hate me so much?
“No, it’s none of that. It’s just that from the time we were little, no matter what I did or where I went, people would always look at me like i’m a mistake, even you. My dad did what he did years ago, but whenever people looked at me they still see his mistakes, even you. I took you as my brother! but you never really did let me get close to you because you’ve always seen me as a traitor even though I hadn’t done anything wrong yet. You always saw me as a ticking time bomb just waiting to go off, so I wasn’t trustworthy enough to even stand by your side as an equal,” he confessed.
Ok, everything he just said was true, and the way he’s been acting lately only proves that my intuition had been right all along.
“So, you’ve decided to become what people have always suspected you would be? That’s understandable, but why hurt your sister in the process?” I asked.
No matter how much he hates me, no one else should have to suffer.
“It’s just temporary, S. Group is just a means and I don’t plan to have it for long. My main targets are Olivia and Castlehill.” He replied as my heart stopped a bit at the sound of her name.
“What does she have to do with this?” I questioned panicky.
“Ev-erything. You see, she is my inspiration. Back in high school and college I watch you get all the girls that I liked, and it didn’t matter whether you knew how I felt for them or not. Your rock-sized ego just wouldn’t let me win even one heart, I wasn’t even a worthy competition for you. You didn’t know these but at a time i stopped. I thought if a girl would come between the both of us, then I’d rather not fall for any girl until you were married at least. But even you didn’t let that happen, because right after I saw Livy, somehow your wife just had to die and my Livy was coincidentally arranged to be married to you.” he stated disdainfully.
I clenched my fist so tight as I tried to hide the sudden anger that arose in me hearing him talk about my misfortunes like it was some planned event.
“That was not my fault.” I said upset after cussing and growling beneath my breathe.
“Of course it wasn’t, neither was it Livy’s fault that she’s stuck with you, but that didn’t stop you from blaming her for everything, did it? She never wanted to marry you Markian. She wished she had ran away than be married to you, but she couldn’t because she was afraid of what her mother would do to you if she did. But you… you got a girl that thinks about you before herself and you treat her like trash.” He cited, while I just sat there with clenched fist and a raging storm of anger.
