Yolanda Taylor waited a moment and tried to pull her hand back, only to find Gwen Fox’s grip tight.
She looked up at him, “Gwen Fox, it’s late, I’m going back.”
He looked up at her and didn’t let go, “I hope you’ll still be with me next year for New Year’s Eve.”
Yolanda Taylor’s heart fluttered and she quickly pulled her hand back.
Gwen Fox let go and raised her hand to touch her face, “You go back, be safe, and text me when you get home.”
“Uh-huh.”
Yolanda Taylor looked down at her hand, “I’m heading back.”
This time, she didn’t look back, and Gwen Fox didn’t say anything else.
It was snowing in Oman City this year to welcome in the New Year, and there were quite a few young people out for New Year’s Eve, and Yolanda Taylor had a hard time getting a cab after she got out of the hospital.
The ride was bustling with activity, and she looked down at her hand being held by Gwen Fox.
He was holding it really tight, and if she hadn’t pulled her hand out when he wasn’t looking, he probably wouldn’t have wanted to let go.
It was 1:30 when she got home, and Yolanda Taylor messaged Gwen Fox and Dika Rothstein to tell them she was safe, and after a quick wash of her face she climbed into bed and went to sleep.
As an adult, she doesn’t seem to look forward to New Year’s as much as she did when she was a child – after all, she’s a year older.
Because Yolanda Taylor had to set up the wedding site on the third day of the year, she had to leave Gwen Fox’s three meals a day to Dika Rothstein.
It was a warm and inviting day, and the bride and groom were both lovely and fun people. Yolanda Taylor stood on the stage and watched them kiss, and suddenly felt warm even in the dead of winter.
She left the wedding site at eight o’clock, and had planned to make a trip to the hospital to see Gwen Fox, but just as she walked out of the hotel, she was stopped by a man, “Miss Taylor.”
“You are?”
Parker knew that Yolanda Taylor had lost her memory, and he wasn’t surprised that she didn’t recognize him, “My name is Parker, I’m Mr. Lamar Sr.’s assistant.”
Upon hearing “Mr. Lamar Sr.”, Yolanda Taylor subconsciously thought of Gwen Fox.
She pursed her lower lips, “Are you guys Gwen Fox’s family?”
“Mr. Lamar Sr. is Young Master Fox’s grandfather.”
Yolanda Taylor frowned and glanced at the car in front of her, “Mr. Lamar Sr. asked for me?”
“Yes, Miss Taylor.”
Yolanda Taylor didn’t want to get into this car, but it was so eye-catching parked here that people coming and going looked over.
“Miss Taylor, please get in the car. You don’t have to worry, Mr. Lamar Sr. just wants to talk to you.”
The other party was so forceful that Yolanda Taylor had to lift her leg and get into the car.
The car soon stopped in front of the hotel and Yolanda Taylor followed Parker all the way inside where the elevator went straight to the top floor.
Parker led her out of the elevator and then kept going, stopping in front of the door of one of the innermost suites lifting his hand and knocking on the door, “Old Sir.”
“Come in.”
Parker opened the door with his room card, he didn’t go in first, instead he slightly sidestepped and gestured for Yolanda Taylor to go inside, “Miss Taylor, please.”
Yolanda Taylor gave him a look and lifted her leg to walk inside.
The suite was huge and it took a while to walk before she saw an old man inside the small compartment on her right.
Lamar Fox saw her and nodded and smiled, “Miss Taylor, it’s been a long time.”
Yolanda Taylor smiled shyly, “Sorry Mr. Lamar Sr. I lost my memory.”
“I’m the one who forgot.”
He smiled and reached out to invite her to take a seat, “Have a seat, Miss Taylor.”
Yolanda Taylor took a seat across from him and Parker poured her a cup of tea before stepping back.
“Thank you.”
Yolanda Taylor looked across at the older man, she didn’t remember him at all, yet he had just opened his mouth with the words it had been a long time, obviously they had met before.
“Gwen has been a pain in the ass these days.”
Yolanda Taylor looked at the card in front of her and frowned slightly, “Gwen Fox was injured because she saved me, it’s what I should have done.”
Lamar Fox looked at her and smiled a little, “Miss Taylor don’t get me wrong, this is just a small token of my appreciation, I’m not trying to kick you out or keep you from being with Gwen.”
He said and sighed, “I didn’t expect Miss Taylor to be so thoughtful three years ago, I was shocked when I first heard your bad news, and now that I see you’re doing well, I’m even less likely to break up you and Gwen.” Yolanda Taylor doesn’t remember the past and can only listen.
“As a matter of fact, once upon a time I suggested that you two get married, it’s just that this Gwen kid couldn’t think straight and was so screwed up that he had to have something happen to you before he was willing to face his heart. Since you’re all fine nowadays, Miss Taylor shouldn’t let the tragedy of that year play out again. You and Gwen have known each other for several years, and Gwen will be thirty next year, thirty years old, you can think about getting married.”
Lamar Fox’s words were all for the good of her and Gwen Fox, yet Yolanda Taylor always felt uncomfortable in her heart as she listened.
She didn’t know why, from the first time she saw this old man in front of her, she felt that the other party was not a good person.
Now that he was bitter, he was completely different from the evil elders she had imagined.
Yolanda Taylor couldn’t help but frown a little, “Mr. Lamar Sr., I think you misunderstood, I have no intention of starting over with Gwen Fox.”
“Oh? Miss Taylor what do you mean?”
“Just literally.”
She responded without being condescending, Lamar Fox looked at her and frowned slightly, “Why is that? Gwen’s feelings for you, I’m sure you can see them clearly … We, the Fox family, aren’t the ones who look at the family either.”
“I’m enjoying my life now, Mr. Lamar Sr.”
Lamar Fox froze for a moment and looked at her and sighed suddenly, “That would be a shame.”
He seemed a bit overwhelmed by this fact for a long moment before waving Parker aside, “Parker, take Miss Taylor back.”
Yolanda Taylor got up and nodded to him, “Goodbye, Mr. Lamar Sr.”
“Bye.”
He closed his eyes and waved.
Off to the side, Parker sidled up, “Miss Taylor, I’ll see you off.”
Yolanda Taylor gave him a look, “No, I’ll just get back on my own.”
Parker didn’t say anything, just followed her all the way out.
Yolanda Taylor had no choice but to let him follow.
It was only when she got all the way to the front of the hotel that she opened her mouth, “Mr. Parker, just drop it off here.”
With that, she reached out and beckoned for a cab.
Seeing this, Parker had to nod, “Then Miss Taylor be careful.”
“Okay, thanks.”
“I hope Miss Taylor doesn’t tell Young Master Fox about this meeting.”
Yolanda Taylor nodded, “I understand.”
She got into the car and Parker helped her close the door.
“Just drive, Master.”
The car slowly turned on, and the smile on Yolanda Taylor’s face faded as she looked at Parker inside the rearview mirror.
Gwen Fox’s grandfather, indeed, was something else, he didn’t seem to be saying anything, yet he seemed to be saying everything.
