Outside at four in the morning, the wind was like the devil, the snow kept falling, and it was so cold that even the stray wild cats and dogs were looking for a place to warm up.
But Yolanda Taylor felt no colder than her own heart.
Everyone thought she was with Gwen Fox for the money, even her own mother.
Now it’s true that three hundred thousand dollars is nothing to her, but that three hundred thousand dollars has destroyed all the pride she once had.
Time and time again, she’d lost count of how many times she’d opened her mouth and asked Gwen Fox for money for Petra’s sake.
But every time she said she would quit gambling, she would quit, but time and time again, when she cried bitterly, she swore, but when she was at the gambling table, she even forgot who her own daughter was.
With a mom like that, Yolanda Taylor doesn’t know what she expects.
Borden City is so big, she doesn’t even have a home.
When she got back to her apartment, Yolanda Taylor realized that she was a little hot, and it was only when she took her thermometer that she realized she had a fever.
There was nothing inside the apartment, except a bucket of Vitamin C effervescent tablets, and she found nothing.
The cold had come on strong, and Yolanda Taylor was as sick as a mountain.
When Dika Rothstein’s call came, she had just finished taking her temperature, thirty-nine degrees eight.
After she hung up, she changed her clothes and left the house.
Yolanda Taylor had just gotten out of a taxi when she ran into Gwen Fox and Jerome Perot getting out of their car.
Jerome Perot was a little surprised to see her, “Yolanda, long time no see.”
Yolanda Taylor smiled, “Long time no see.”
She said, the person was already walking to the door.
“Dika Rothstein.”
She gave Dika Rothstein’s name and was quickly led inside.
From start to finish, she didn’t glance at Gwen Fox.
Jerome Perot tsked, “Yolanda didn’t seem to glance at you just now.”
Just as his words fell, he saw Gwen Fox incline her head to look over, the cold hostility inside her dark eyes made Jerome Perot’s back cool.
“Just being honest.”
Gwen Fox snorted, looking at Yolanda Taylor’s back with a hidden expression on her face.
Jerome Perot inclined his head to look at him, remembering what Yolanda Taylor had just said, “If I heard correctly, Yolanda is looking for Dika Rothstein? What is he looking for Dika Rothstein for?”
Gwen Fox didn’t say anything, only the color of her eyes sank a few more points.
Yolanda Taylor exited the elevator and was soon brought before Dika Rothstein’s eyes.
“Godfather of Dika.”
She opened her mouth to call out to the man on the couch, and it was at the sound of her voice that Dika Rothstein looked up at her, “An honored guest, Yolanda.”
Yolanda Taylor pursed her lips for a moment and took a seat on the side.
Dika Rothstein poured two glasses of red wine and handed one to her.
Yolanda Taylor reaches out and takes it, but doesn’t drink it.
Dika Rothstein leaned back and looked at her with a smirk, “What, afraid I’ll put something in it?”
Yolanda Taylor shook her head, “I have a cold, I can’t drink.”
“Cold? Let’s see?”
The man said, suddenly leaning in.
Yolanda Taylor subconsciously stepped back, only to have his hand tug his wrist forward.
“Godfather of Dika, I came to you today on business.”
Dika Rothstein touched her forehead and replied, “You don’t just have a cold, you have a fever, have you been to the hospital?”
“No. Godfather of Dika, I came over today because I wanted to-”
“About your mom, right?”
Dika Rothstein took a sip of her red wine and looked at her askance, “I’m not to blame for this, someone is trying to fuck your mom, and it wouldn’t hurt to tell you who that someone is.”
“Who is it?” Yolanda Taylor looked at him, her fever made her vision not very clear, but the three words that came out of Dika Rothstein’s mouth, she heard them loud and clear: Gwen Fox.
Dika Rothstein couldn’t help but raise an eyebrow when she saw that the expression on her face didn’t surprise her, “You guessed that already?”
Yolanda Taylor nodded, “I knew it was him, and I didn’t come over here today to ask who was behind the little maneuver.”
“A little maneuver?” Dika Rothstein suddenly laughed, “Yolanda, I’m afraid you don’t know that it’s all because of that wonderful lover of yours that your mom has become like this, do you?”
Yolanda Taylor frowned, a little confused, “What does Godfather of Dika mean by that?”
“Yolanda, you’re so smart, don’t you think it’s strange that your mom used to be quite a nice person? Why is she suddenly obsessed with the gambling tables?”
No way, Gwen Fox didn’t know me back then!”
She knew that Gwen Fox was a person who looked nice and gentle, but in reality, every cent counted.
“You think this has something to do with you? Alright, who made me like you, this is what I went through a lot of trouble to find out, take a look!”
With that said, Dika Rothstein took a file bag out from the couch behind her and threw it in front of her eyes.
Yolanda Taylor looked at the file bag and for some reason, she didn’t dare to open it.
“Afraid to look? You have to look at it even if you’re afraid to look at it… three years, right? You’ve been made to look like a monkey by Gwen Fox!”
She closed her eyes, and finally reached out and took the file bag.
The information inside was not much, only three pages in total, and Yolanda Taylor finished reading it in just two minutes.
After reading it, her entire body was shaking, “No way …”
“You’re separated from him now, what’s the point of me lying to you at this point?”
Dika Rothstein glanced at her, the scar at the corner of his eye looked like his whole person was a bit evil when he smiled.
“It stands to reason that your mom and dad were victims of that car accident back then, although it’s true that the main responsibility was your dad’s DUI.”
Yolanda Taylor unbelievably looked at the pages in front of her, on which it was clearly written to understand the cause of his mom and dad’s car accident back then, that car accident back then, because her dad DUI crashed into another car, and I heard that the two people in the back of the car died on the spot.
Her mom was lucky to be alive and well, except for a broken leg.
But her dad was a different story, paralyzed except for his brain.
She was only thirteen years old when it happened, and knew nothing but that her mom and dad were hospitalized, and then the court ordered the family to pay a large sum of money, and the family fell into the slums all of a sudden.
She had no idea that the other two victims of the car accident were Gwen Fox’s mom and dad.
Thinking about this, Yolanda Taylor only felt as if her heart had been hit hard by something.
However, these are not what shocked her the most: “Your mom got addicted to gambling five years ago, right? If I remember correctly, Gwen Fox had just graduated from college that year. Didn’t he come on to you later and ask you to be his lover?”
Speaking here, Dika Rothstein lit a cigarette, “Back then, I asked you to follow me, you didn’t listen, you insisted on following him, and now, well, the family is broken, and there’s nothing left.”
“But what did I do wrong?”
What did she do wrong? It was her dad who got the DUI, and her dad paid the price, even if he didn’t die on the spot, but he was paralyzed in bed for so many years.
Besides, it was just an accident, an accident that no one wanted to happen.
So, from start to finish, she, Yolanda Taylor, was just a tool for his Gwen Fox revenge?
“By the way, there’s one more thing, I’m afraid you can’t stand it, and I’m hesitating to tell you or not?”
Yolanda Taylor looked up at him, usually inside the full of almond eyes now only a silence: “What is it?”
