At the Johnson mansion, Emmanuel was talking to his wife Rosemary, “my dearest wife, in two weeks’ time the marriage between James and Victoria will be over,” said her husband with sadness. His wife was overjoyed, “I didn’t believe Victoria when she said she doesn’t love my son, I thought she will play tricks on my son. James told me that Victoria never called him, never looked for him. I’m looking forward to my son’s engagement banquet. The invitation cards are ready.” Emmanuel told his wife that he asked Mark Anthony to design the billboard of James and Serene with their engagement details. “My dearest wife please give me the invitation card and their photos. Please don’t tell James I want it to be a surprise. After two weeks I will personally send the engagement invitation cards.” His wife was so happy and kissed him.
After work James decided to go to his apartment, he was not feeling well. He needed quiet and peaceful place to rest. Victoria was sitting in the living room reading a document. She raised her head when she saw James and smiled, “are you alright, you don’t look well. Do you want me to call a doctor?” James’s smiled and said, “I have a cold don’t worry, after I sleep, I will be fine.” Victoria was not convinced, “must I ask Uncle Ed to prepare dinner now or you want to sleep first?” James was comparing Victoria and Serene in his heart, he felt disappointed. He smiled bitterly and said, “let me close my eyes for few minutes then we will eat.” James didn’t go to his bedroom he slept on the sofa in the living room.
When Victoria saw that James has fallen asleep, she went to him and touch his forehead, he was burning. She asked Uncle Ed to call the family doctor. Dr Michael took his temperature, it was sky high, he prescribed the medicine and left. Uncle Ed went to the pharmacy to buy medicine. Victoria went to the bathroom and took the basin with cold water and towel. She took off his shirt and wipe his body with the towel. Uncle Ed came back with medicine. “Uncle Ed please help me to give James the medicine. They tried to open his mouth to no avail, Victoria went to her room and came back with the medication syringe. She dissolved the tablet into water and put it in a syringe. James drank all the medicine. Victoria didn’t stop to wipe his body with cold towel.
Victoria asked Uncle Ed to help her to move James to his bedroom. Uncle Ed picked up James and went to his bedroom. Victoria asked him to change his clothes to pajamas. In the meantime, Victoria went to her bedroom to change to her pajamas, she put a night gown on top. Uncle Ed called Victoria to tell her that he had changed James clothes. Victoria went to the bathroom to change water. He asked Uncle Ed to leave, she sat on the chair next to the bed and continue wiping his body, the temperature was going down. The bedside lamp was on. At 4 am James woke up, he didn’t remember coming to his bedroom, then he saw Victoria sleeping on the chair next to his bed. He picked her up and put her in his bed, he held her in his arms and go back to sleep.
“Good morning sleepy head,” said James. “Good morning” replied Victoria and opened her eyes. She was so scared to find herself in James arms, she went out of his bed quickly. She put her hand in her chest, she looked at James scared, “Mr Johnson, I don’t remember sleeping in your bed, I was sitting in this chair, please don’t misunderstand.” James laughed and explained, “when I woke up this morning, I saw you sleeping, your neck was hurting, since I’m weak, I decided to put you in my bed. Why are you scared? I’m not going to eat you.” Victoria was not scared of James, but his mother. “I don’t want your mother to misunderstand, she will kill me.” James laughed, “thank you for everything, much appreciated.” Victoria smiled and went to her bedroom to bath and left for work.
In the twinkling of an eye two years was up. Patrick Lewis was so happy that her daughter was coming back home, he sent the driver to James’s apartment to fetch Victoria’s things. Victoria packed all her things and gave her suitcases to her father’s driver. Butler Ed shared tears when Victoria told him that today was the last day in this apartment. Butler Ed wished her well, and he told her that he will never forget her kindness. He told her that he would miss delicious food she used to cook for them. Victoria laughed and went to her room.
On Monday morning at 9 am Victoria was waiting for James at Home Affairs. He came just after 9 am, he smiled at Victoria and greeted her. They went to the divorce window; it was empty it went fast. James looked at Victoria, she was breathtaking beautiful, then James asked, “Victoria why did you marry me? What about your boyfriend?” Victoria said, “my father tried to commit suicide, I was scared that he will do it again if he didn’t get any help. I don’t have a boyfriend yet.” James was shocked, he thought that Victoria was brave. Victoria told him that she would forever be grateful to the Johnson family for giving them a helping hand. Victoria wished James well and left.
She called Emmanuel Johnson and said, “thanks dad for everything, you can ask me anything I will do it for you except marrying your son.” Emmanuel laughed, “I’m sad that you are no longer my daughter in law, I wish you well. When you have time, please cook for me that oxtail dish.” Victoria laughed and hung up. Victoria went home, she was very happy. She thanked the Lord that for everything He has done for her. She was counting her blessings.
