CHAPTER 11
The following day, James went to work, he asked his Assistant, Edwin Davidson to buy him a new phone. When he received it, he saw several missed calls from his mother, he decided to call her. “Hello Mom, I broke my phone yesterday, I just saw your missed calls now” His mother was happy to hear from her precious son, “I wanted to tell you that I beat up that woman yesterday, she will never play any tricks on you, and I convinced your father not to cancel your engagement, he agreed. I have contacted my friend to design your engagement invitation cards, your engagement banquet will take place one month after your divorce.” James thanked his mother and hung up.
He checked his WeChat, he saw a video, when he opened it, he couldn’t believe his eyes, it was Serene’s friends who provoked Victoria. He was so upset at Serene, he told her not to disclose his marital status to anyone, but she told her friends. He was fuming, he ended up accusing Victoria unnecessary. On top of that his mother went to his apartment and beat her up. When he thought about the harsh words he spoke to Victoria, his heart turned bitter. He regretted jumping into a conclusion without conducting any investigation. He decided to go to his father’s office to apologize, clearly Serene was at fault here. When he entered the office, his father was sitting in his sofa deep in thought. His son was so smart, but he was so blind when it comes to Serene, Victoria was more beautiful, humble, and smart than Serene.
When he heard his son’s voice, he raised his head and look at him. “I’m sorry dad for what happened to Victoria yesterday, please forgive me it will not happened again. I will speak to Serene dad.” His father was so angry, “are you saying that you haven’t spoken to your girlfriend until now? Did you apologize to Victoria? I’m so disappointed in you, my son. Please leave my office I need to work.” James left his father’s office in low spirits.
He decided to go to his apartment to apologize to Victoria. She was took sick leave to nurse her swollen face, when James saw her like that, he felt regretful for telling his mother that Victoria provoked Serene. “Victoria, I’m so sorry please forgive me and my mom, it’s my fault, I thought you fell in love with me, and I jumped into conclusion.” Victoria looked at him and sneered, “since we got married, I have never pestered you not even once, when did I give you indication that I fell in love with you? Your mother didn’t even give me a chance to explain, I’m not a punching bag James. I will never forgive your mother; she called me a gold digger and beat me up without a reason.” After that Victoria went to her room and left James standing in the living room. He decided to go to Serene’s house.
When he arrived at Logan residence Serene was with her friends laughing, he heard her telling her friends that if she knew that James would take her side when she provoked Victoria, she would have beaten her up long time ago. She was in a happy mood. James was so angry, “repeat what you just said Serene, didn’t I tell you not to disclose my marital status to anyone? Didn’t I tell you not to provoke Victoria? Why don’t you tell me that you don’t want to marry me?” Serene was so scared, she nearly fell from her chair, she started crying, “I’m sorry James, I love you so much, I’m scared to lose you. What if Victoria refused to divorce you, what I’m going to do?” James’s heart softened; he hugged her, “what you did was stupid, my dad is very angry, I told you that I’m not interested in Victoria, but you pulled a stunt like this, it means that you don’t want us to get married.” Serene stopped crying she wiped her tears from her face, “I will go to Victoria and apologize. I’m very sorry James please forgive me.” James kissed her and hugged her tight.
Mrs Johnson was very happy that it was only three months left, her precious son will divorce that gold digger, she can’t wait. She went to her closet, there was a beautiful jewelry box, she opened it and took a red velvet box. There was a ring inside, it was a family heirloom given to her by Emmanuel’s mother, it was unique and beautiful. She would pass the ring to her son for his proposal to Serene. Because of deep hatred towards Victoria, she forgot that she didn’t like Serene. She immediately called his son and told him that she had good news for him, he must come back with his dad after work.
After work James left the office together with his father, he told his father that his mom asked him to come back home with him. His dad was puzzled because his wife didn’t say anything to him, but he kept quiet. When they arrived home, his wife was in a good mood, she was humming. She kissed her husband and hugged her son; “the dinner is ready let us eat first then we will talk later.” After dinner she took the red velvet box and opened it. Inside it was sitting a family heirloom, she gave the ring to James and looked at him with tears in her eyes, “my son I’m so happy that you are going to marry the love of your life, I want to take this opportunity to give you this ring, your grandmother gave this to your dad to propose to me. I’m giving it to you now to do the same to Serene. I give you, my blessing.”
Her husband looked at her astonished, she didn’t tell him that he will give the ring to James before he was divorced, to him it was premature. James and his mother were hugging each other, they were very happy then he decided not to say anything, he went to his bedroom, his wife’s action hurt him deeply. He thought that James will be attracted to Victoria since they spent most of the time together, he didn’t know that James spent most of his time with Serene, she was practically staying with her. He only went to his apartment to fetch his clothes. His wife didn’t even see that her husband was no longer in the living room.
That night James and his mother discussed the engagement banquet theme, the decorations, and the cake. She wanted to give her son the grand engagement banquet. She showed him the sample of his engagement invitation card, it was gold and black, the material they used was delicate, it was beautiful. James told his mother that he would propose to Serene on Saturday. Her mother was so happy, she hugged her son again.
