The maid, hidden in the midst of others, ducked her head with a pale face and trembling fingers, not even daring to look at the two men.
Umberto and Hector looked at each other.
As soon as the maid admitted that Diana had instigated her, they could throw Diana out immediately.
Hector had put up with Diana for years, he wouldn’t dare risk having such a deep and dangerous person around when a pregnant Albina and a child Adrian were at home.
Diana’s heart leapt into her throat when she saw the maid Carmen enter.
As a result, she also saw Carmen shaking nervously, with movements so obvious that even Adrian could probably see the problem, not to mention Umberto and Hector.
Diana frowned and winked at Doria.
Doria blinked in acknowledgment.
Bianca went ahead to explain the situation to the servants and when she finished, everyone murmured about it.
Someone was quick to say:
-Madam, we agree, we can clear ourselves of suspicion if we get our fingerprints checked.
-Yes, once we are out of suspicion, we won’t have to worry all day. I agree, too.
Someone took the lead and one by one the servants nodded in agreement.
Not to mention that the Espina family treated the servants well in terms of welfare, never scolded them, and when the lady said it was not obligatory, she gave them enough dignity so that basically the servants agreed.
Umberto and Hector kept their eyes fixed on Carmen, and indeed they saw that she also followed the others in agreement, but her expression was not so good.
Carmen hid in the crowd, her mind agitated and thinking all the time about how to react.
She was so nervous when she tore the dress apart that she couldn’t hold the scissors properly and was shaking the whole time, so she doesn’t even remember if she left footprints at the time.
The more Carmen thought, the more her mind went blank, which made her whole body a little dizzy and she broke out in a cold sweat on her forehead.
-Carmen, what’s wrong?
Suddenly, a female voice echoed in her ears.
Carmen was taken aback and turned her head to see that the person she was talking to was Doria.
Doria twisted her head to look at her and her eyes were full of warning.
This look was like a jar of cold water that woke Carmen straight up.
She felt a shiver and her whole body trembled.
-I’m fine, I guess I haven’t had a good rest for the last two days,” Carmen smiled stiffly at her.
Doria’s eyes instantly turned kind and she said to him:
-It’s good that you are well. All you young people rely on your good health and stay up late every day. When you grow old, it will be too late when your health collapses.
They were clearly words of concern, but Carmen felt a somber chill in the bottom of her heart.
She nodded and said:
-I know, I will not neglect myself in the future.
Doria nodded and gave Diana a nod, indicating that everything was all right now.
Hector and Umberto also heard what Doria and Carmen said.
The words did not sound strange and sounded like normal concern.
The two men were puzzled for a moment and, before they could think about it, they saw the man contacted by Umberto approaching with the equipment.
Hector had sealed Albina’s room some time ago, just in case someone sneaked in when they weren’t looking and spoiled the scene.
The staff began taking fingerprints from the closet part and another began taking fingerprints from the servants.
Umberto and the others were watching everything together.
When he reached Carmen, he could see that her outstretched hand was shaking.
Umberto made a point of having the staff check the finger area in case someone was playing tricks. However, since the fingerprint thing had been pulled out of thin air by Umberto, Adrian didn’t explicitly say what he wanted when he called the servants.
All the servants approached unsuspectingly and Carmen didn’t even have time to do anything else.
Under the burning gaze of the crowd, Carmen could only allow herself to be obediently fingerprinted.
Even before the results were known, Carmen was already pale, as if she already knew the end.
Several fingerprints were collected in the closet, including Carmen’s. The remaining ones, one was from the maid.
The remaining ones, one was from the maid who cleaned Albina’s room every day, and two were from the maids who went to pick up the laundry.
As soon as this result was known, everyone looked in unison in Carmen’s direction.
One of the servants asked inquisitively:
-It doesn’t seem strange to me that other people have left their fingerprints, it’s their job. But Carmen, wasn’t your work today always in the salon? Why does Miss Albina’s wardrobe have your fingerprints on it?
-It’s… It’s… Because Miss Albina’s side was quite busy and I went to help -Carmen stammered an explanation.
Bianca frowned as she heard this.
-I remember arranging it so that it was quite crowded.
Albina nodded her head.
-I’m not particularly busy there, after all, I’m the only one, and Mom has assigned three or four people to come help me, so I don’t think I need you. Who asked for your help?
Carmen couldn’t say a single name.
Albina scoffed.
-If you’re innocent, why don’t you say it? It’s because no one asked you for help, isn’t it?
As Bianca felt insecure at that time, she was always worried about the lack of things for Albina, and sent her maids to bring her a lot of things. The maids came in and out, all wearing the same clothes.
Albina couldn’t even tell them apart, so maybe that’s when Carmen snuck in and messed up her clothes.
Carmen’s eyes were red-rimmed and she was about to cry.
Adrian looked at her and frowned a little.
-Even children know that when you make a mistake you have to admit it. You ruined Albina’s dress and now it has been discovered, why can’t you admit it?
Carmen stared at the feather pearls on the hem of Albina’s dress and the evidence before her. Knowing she couldn’t deny it this time, she could only admit it.
-I did it. I ruined Miss Albina’s dress.
-You have no quarrel with Albina, why would you want to spoil this dress? What good would it do you? -said Umberto.
Carmen kept ducking her head, fingers clutching her skirt, and whispered:
-There’s no reason. I just don’t like it, that’s all.
