Chapter 498: Secret eavesdropping

-Sure. But Mr. Alfredo has just come to his senses and is still a little weak, so don’t make any noise or anything to irritate him.
The doctor gave a warning and the crowd nodded in agreement.
Stephanie didn’t want Alfredo to come to, but he was awake now, and since it was her daughter, she wouldn’t deliberately hurt him, so she had to resign herself to her fate. She hoped Alfred would give her much fortune for the sake of her recent concerns for him.
Jaime, on the other hand, thought much more. He entered the room with a group of people looking down to hide his excitement.
Pedro was the first to run to Alfredo’s bed, and asked him quietly how he was doing, trying hard to contain his mood.
Stephanie and Secretary Diaz were less excited than he was, but they were also worried about Alfredo.
Jaime stood alone behind the people, and was so nervous that he didn’t dare approach to talk to Alfredo and only looked up quietly once.
Alfredo was a little thinner and had gray hair. He was lying on the bed with his eyes open, but he was still so weak that it was hard for him to speak.
His state of health seemed bad. But it was logical that he could not recover his damaged kidneys after taking the medicine that accelerated kidney failure.
The medical treatment was not yet that advanced.
When Jaime was deep in meditation, suddenly his eyes met Alfredo’s unclear ones and he jumped, shivering.
-Jaime, why are you hiding behind everyone?
Alfredo finished the sentence in a hoarse voice, and directed a glance at Jaime to approach him.
At that moment, it was impossible for Jaime to pretend not to have seen or heard anything, so he had to go ahead and crouch down in front of Alfredo’s bed.
-Grandfather! -Jaime exclaimed.
Looking at Alfredo’s face, he suddenly didn’t know what to say.
The feeling of guilt that had not surfaced for a long time came flooding back at that moment, making him feel a little guilty and uncomfortable.
But Stephanie and Pedro were staring at him, so he could only say stiffly to Alfredo:
-Grandpa, how are you feeling, are you feeling better?
Alfredo stared at him, reached out to pat the back of Jaime’s hand and said weakly:
-I feel better. Jaime, then you will go through the discharge procedures for me.
Hearing this, Stephanie was the first to object:
-Dad, you just woke up, you can’t leave the hospital. Now is the most dangerous time, you have to stay in the hospital and let the doctors take care of you. If there is any change in your condition, they can treat you in time.
Stephanie was right and Peter agreed.
-Yes, Grandpa, you should stay in the hospital. Since you have just woken up and are weak, if you move, your illness will get worse.
Nervously, Stephanie and Pedro were persuading Alfredo to stay in the hospital, but Alfredo stubbornly kept his eyes on Jaime, didn’t change his mind in the least and said:
-I don’t like staying in the hospital and the room smells like sterile water, which makes me feel very uncomfortable.
Jaime looked at Alfredo with fear and nodded after a long while.
-Okay, grandfather, rest first, I’ll help you with your discharge.
As soon as Pedro gave him the news that Alfredo was about to wake up, Jaime thought about how to kill Alfredo once and for all. But he did not expect Alfredo to wake up so soon.
Now he had no remedy to kill Alfredo, since the hospital was full of surveillance cameras, and Secretary Diaz, doctors and nurses were always at Alfredo’s side to take care of him, which made things even more difficult for Jaime to kill him.
But if Alfredo returned to the Seco family home, Jaime could do whatever he wanted.
During Alfredo’s stay at the hospital, Jaime had managed to bribe the people holding key positions in the Seco family, so he could kill Alfredo without anyone noticing.
As long as he prepared everything well, there would be someone to take the blame and no one would suspect him.
-Jaime, why do you agree to let grandfather leave the hospital? Grandfather is in no condition to be discharged now, do you want him to die?
Pedro’s expression was filled with anger and he grabbed Jaime’s neck with indignation.
Jaime gave him a cold look and said in a low voice:
-We are in the sick room and our grandfather needs to recover quietly, so don’t make a fuss. It is grandfather who is asking to be discharged, and the hospital makes him uncomfortable. If he keeps suppressing the disgust in his heart and recovers here reluctantly, I’m afraid this will not be conducive to his recovery. I am concerned about his mental health.
Jaime said the words that seemed to make sense, as if Peter was unreasonable.
-You!
Pedro gave him a stern look and finally lowered his fist.
He stood beside Alfredo’s bed, looked at him with discontent and whispered:
-Grandfather, if you insist on being discharged, I’ll ask the doctor and if he says you can, we’ll agree on your discharge, is that okay with you?
Although he knew it was a plan they had discussed, Alfredo could see in Pedro’s face a real feeling of affection and dependence, an emotion very different from Jaime’s superficial filial piety, which moved him.
Alfredo stroked his hair and said in a hoarse voice:
-Good.
Jaime stood to one side, and when he saw Alfredo touch Pedro’s hair, his eyes showed disappointment.
He found this movement annoying and felt uncomfortable as if a hand was squeezing his heart tightly.
It was a gesture that Alfredo only did to him, but now Pedro also possessed him.
Jaime clenched his fists and tried to control his emotions, but he couldn’t help but show envy.
Stephanie noticed his envy and laughed with pleasure.
Stephanie was very glad that Alfredo still felt affection for Pedro and hoped that Alfredo could treat Pedro better to make it worth all the sacrifices and planning she had done over many years.
Not everyone could stand to have their only son leave them at a young age. She had been planning this since her brother left home, and although Jaime’s presence had upset her plan, her plan worked as long as her son got some fortune!
-Everyone out, I have something to tell Secretary Diaz.
Once everything that needed to be said had been said, Alfredo made a weak gesture to everyone and told Secretary Diaz to stay.
Pedro wanted to go ask the doctor about Alfredo’s health, so he obediently left the room on Alfredo’s orders.
Stephanie followed her son cheerfully and still had to go to treat the wound on his face. She had remained attentive to Alfredo’s condition and now the wound hurt.
Jaime squatted down in front of Alfredo’s bed, then stood up holding onto the edge of the bed. He glanced at Alfredo and Secretary Diaz as he left, and finally closed the door tightly.
The closed door could isolate the sounds from inside and outside the room.
Jaime leaned against the outside wall, his face expressionless, as he pulled a pair of headphones out of his pocket and put them in his ears.
He heard a loud noise first, then Alfredo’s hoarse, faint voice reached his ears.
As Jaime stood up in front of Alfredo’s bed, he had tucked the microphone under Alfredo’s hospital bed. It was a microphone he had prepared just in case after learning that Alfredo was about to wake up, but he had never expected it to come in handy so soon.
With some smugness and sarcasm in his eyes, Jaime leaned inexpressively against the wall, listening intently.
-Secretary Diaz, you were really scared when I suddenly fainted, weren’t you?
Alfredo’s voice was soft as he looked at Secretary Diaz, who was standing in front of the bed.
Secretary Diaz was silent for a moment and said quietly:
-Yes! I didn’t expect you to faint all of a sudden, because the last time you had a medical check-up, you weren’t that sick. The doctor also said that that little illness would not be life-threatening.
Hearing this, Alfredo said in a hoarse voice:
-When I woke up, the doctor already explained the situation to me, and it was indeed beyond my expectations. My body could not have reached such an uncontrollable condition in a short time and my kidneys are not failing naturally, so I am afraid someone has hurt me.
Hearing these words, Jaime was very afraid, his face showed a little panic and he was involuntarily nervous. Not daring to breathe, he listened attentively to avoid missing any news.
-After he fainted and was hospitalized, I immediately checked that there was nothing unusual in the house. I’m afraid the culprit had thrown things out beforehand.
Secretary Diaz’s voice sounded slightly angry.
Jaime lifted the corners of his mouth and his eyes showed pride. He certainly wouldn’t leave any evidence. Besides, the doctor had verified that there was nothing wrong with the medicine he himself had sent to Alfredo.
He himself had given the poisonous medicine to Alfredo without anyone noticing, and although there were many surveillance cameras on the way to deliver the medicine, they had not been able to capture his movements.
This was an important matter, and Jaime had carefully considered every detail, so Alfredo and Secretary Diaz could not investigate the truth at all.
But, the next moment, the pride in his eyes disappeared and was replaced by panic.
For Alfredo said:
-During that time, I did not leave the house and my daily diet was the same as always, but the only difference was that I took the medicine that Jaime sent me. Do you think he is the one who wants to kill me? Does he know that we suspect him?
