Chapter 236: Searching for the truth

When Julio said this, Romina seemed to wake up, and the tears that had built up in her eyes fell.
She just looked at Julio, her tears falling endlessly, and only when she saw him running towards her did she hastily wipe her tears away and smile stiffly at him:
-I’m fine, I just found there was no medicine at home when I got home…. It’s okay.
These words made Julio’s heart ache, especially when he looked at the tears that kept falling. Unconsciously he wanted to reach over and wipe them away.
Romina avoided his hand, smiled and got up, walking towards the kitchen:
-It’s already very late, have you eaten anything? I’m going to cook for you.
These words made Julio hate himself even more, for believing Yolanda’s words and suspecting that Romina was approaching him with another purpose.
-Romina! -Julio called her with an apologetic look- I made you suffer for what happened today.
Romina looked at him for a long time before speaking:
-Honey, I think… maybe I should leave.
Julio’s eyes widened and he rushed over to take her hand:
-Why?
Romina lowered her head and tried to let go of his hand, her face sad:
-Although I have no previous memories, I know that what I’m doing now is very shameless, at first I thought it would be nice to be by your side, even if I couldn’t be your wife, and that just being by your side would make me happy. But what happened today woke me up.
She wore a bruise on her forehead and when she smiled, it made the man feel the pain in his heart.
Julio, today your daughter called me a pointy-headed daughter, and pointed her fingers at me. I feel really ashamed. I don’t think I should do such things, and since my existence is a disgrace to you, I want to leave and I don’t want to involve you with me. You have a wife and daughter, a happy family, you shouldn’t be burdened with a bad reputation because of me.
Pointing to a small suitcase behind the sofa, he said:
-When I came back today, I had already packed my things, when I came, I didn’t bring anything, everything was given to me by you, I’m leaving today and I won’t take anything with me.
Julio’s face became sad.
-Don’t look at me like that,” said Romina trying to cover her face, “I’m afraid I won’t want to leave if you look at me like that.
-Then you won’t leave,” Julio spoke suddenly, looking at Romina with firm eyes. Stay, I need you, I can’t leave you.
After saying this, he hugged her.
Romina leaned against him, and the pained expression on her face remained rigid for a moment, and her eyes turned cold, but she said:
-I dare not stay, she, she almost killed me today….. If I stay by your side any longer, I shall die at any moment,” she said in a low voice, hinting. Today it was good that you were by my side, and protected me, but I can never be at home, if one day I meet her, or your wife….
Julio listened to her words, frowned, finally made up his mind and led Romina to the sofa. He looked at Romina seriously and took a deep breath:
-I’ll tell you what, if you meet Yolanda alone then, tell her you know what she did four years ago.
Romina’s eyes lit up slightly, she finally got to know. She asked curiously:
-What exactly it was four years ago, you’ve already mentioned it a few times.
As she spoke, her finger slipped into her pocket and flicked the switch on the recorder.
Julio sighed and met her watery eyes, as well as the bruises on her forehead, before saying:
-Four years ago, she hit someone with a car, and the Carballal family helped her get rid of this problem, putting all the blame on the person she hit. The reason I hid it from you before was because the daughter of that person was someone that Umberto, president of the Santangel Group, liked, and if this matter was known to them, the Carballal family would definitely be ruined.
After saying that, he warned Romina:
-It is good that you know about this matter, don’t say anything until the critical moment. I also tell you these things because I like you and I trust you. You must not extend this, do you understand?
Romina nodded,
-Don’t worry, I don’t even have anyone else I know now, how could I spread it.
She wanted to ask some more details, but Julio refused to say anything.
Romina, in a very smart way, put an end to the subject.
Only then Julio let out a sigh of relief, looked at the wound on his forehead and said:
-I will go out to buy medicine for the wound.
-Thank you,” she nodded obediently, looking at Julio with dependence and affection.
After he left, Romina’s face darkened. This evidence was not enough, Julio had to reveal more details, preferably everything. That’s what the Lord wanted.
She looked out the window with a somewhat complicated expression and listened to the sound of the car engine.
If Julio had no wife or daughter, and had been a little more honest with herself, maybe she would be in love with him. It was a pity that Romina was a person who knew what she wanted.
The work she had done before had allowed her to see clearly what men were.
Julio might like her now for her looks and her body, for her pretended sweetness and understanding, and if they had relations, she would become the next Mrs. Carballal.
When Julio returned, as soon as he walked in the door, he smelled the fragrance of the kitchen. When he looked at the busy woman in the kitchen, he was thrilled.
Romina happened to come out with a plate and smiled at him when she saw him return:
-You’re back just in time, I’ve prepared your favorite dishes, come and eat.
-You’re still hurt.
-It’s okay, I can’t let you stay hungry -Romina gave him a kind look, and her understanding look made Julio happy.
He approached the table and saw that the dishes there were all his favorites, and there was a bottle of wine next to it.
Seeing him look at the bottle of wine, Romina smiled shyly:
-I thought you were a bit tired these days, so it would be a good idea to drink some wine to relax, don’t be too nervous, otherwise it won’t be good for your health.
Julio was touched by her words, and after helping her with the medicine, they went to dinner, during which Romina found an excuse to pour him a lot of wine.
Julio was not alert and drank it all, and was drunk in no time.
When Romina saw him lying on the table talking nonsense and her name, her eyes deepened, she helped him up to bed and leaned over beside him just in time to hear him murmur:
-Yolanda, if it wasn’t four years ago ….
Her eyes snapped open and she hurried to set up the tape recorder, softly asking:
-What happened four years ago?
-If it weren’t for me and your mother …
Julio’s subsequent words were vague. Being guided by Romina, Julio told everything that happened back then.
Finally he fell asleep completely drunk.
Romina’s fingers trembled as she held the tape recorder. It was no wonder Umberto sent her to find out Julio’s truth at that moment. It was an extremely surprising secret.
If it were not for the fact that she had gotten Julio drunk inducing him to say these words, while he, Yolanda and her mother, of the Carballal family did not want to tell, this secret would never have been revealed.
Romina looked with cold and complicated eyes at Julio, who had fallen drunk in bed.
After a long while, she left the bedroom, saw the suitcase in the living room, picked it up and quietly left the villa.
Romina had wanted to leave the villa, if she had not completed her mission today, she could have stayed two more days, but now there was no need to stay.
She left quietly, and Julio lay in bed asleep and unconscious.
