Chapter 50: Inhuman

Book:The Blind Wife Published:2024-6-3

Albina already fell for the tricks and was sitting in Umberto’s car.
He knew what Albina wanted to know, so he took the initiative to tell her:
-After you disappeared, I suspected Yolanda. I suspected that Yolanda’s parents cooperated with her to trick me, so I checked the hospital security camera from that night.
Albina stared at it, not daring to miss a word.
I was at a disadvantage in what happened back then. First, she couldn’t see. Second, Umberto didn’t believe her. When he finished dealing with his mother’s funeral, he was up to Yolanda’s tricks. Then, he didn’t even have a chance to investigate the truth.
After he came back this time, he also went to the hospital. But after a year, it was very difficult to verify the security video from the past.
Albina didn’t expect that Umberto had also reviewed the surveillance back then. If he found anything, it could be used as very favorable evidence.
She was so anxious, but Umberto’s next words disappointed her a little.
He said-The strange thing is that the surveillance on your mother’s living room door was broken two days ago and there was no picture of the situation on the night of the accident. So this path of investigation was cut off. However, it was all so casual and suspicious.
Umberto paused as he saw Albina’s disappointed look and added:
-Yolanda must have planned to kill your mother, so she made arrangements in advance. I asked the caregiver who took care of our mother that night and she told me it was a nurse who asked her for help. When she returned, she discovered that mother had stopped breathing.
Albina was deep in thought and didn’t realize that Umberto was trying to call her mother as “our mother” at all.
-I mean, while I’m looking for nurse and confirming that it was Yolanda who ordered her to leave caretaker, basically I could make absolutely sure that Yolanda killed my mother, right?
Umberto nodded,
-But the problem is that the nurse is missing and hasn’t been found yet. Her family doesn’t know where she went either. They’ve asked the police and there’s no result either. She disappeared for the whole year as if she had vanished.
Albina took a deep breath. She already had a sinister premonition in her heart and her expression was serious,
-I’m afraid the nurse has already been killed.
Just like Yolanda asked David to kill her, but she was luckier and survived.
Albina did not understand what happened to Yolanda. In a family like the Carballal family, one could understand that the daughter raised in this family was arrogant and selfish.
But Yolanda was obviously outside the category of capriciousness. She even had no humanity at all. In her eyes, human life was inferior to grass on the side of the road.
Albina turned around and looked at Umberto with a strange expression.
Umberto looked at Umberto with a strange expression.
He felt her gaze and turned his head slightly. His pale pupils were full of doubt,
-Why are you looking at me like that, is there something on my face?
This sentence made Albina turn her attention back to his face.
She didn’t look at Umberto closely before. But at this moment she really had to admit that Umberto’s face was very beautiful.
His skin was cool and white, the facial features were exquisite and perfect, the eyes indifferent and arrogant. When he lowered his eyes slightly, the long lashes covered the deep, cold eyes, giving people a kind of disdainful indifference. Really just like her personality.
-Nothing,” Albina turned her head and looked at the night ahead. If there are no exceptions, Yolanda will be the woman sharing the pillow next to you. There is such an inhuman demon sleeping next to you. I don’t know if you are afraid.
The things Yolanda did were crazy. Albina felt a shiver just listening to them. If she lived with such a person… she really couldn’t imagine it.
Umberto’s lips hooked,
-Thank you for worrying about me. Don’t worry, I won’t let this happen.
He never thought he would marry Yolanda.
Albina frowned.
-I don’t worry about you, I’m just telling the truth.
-It’s okay, you’re right! -Umberto didn’t argue with her and obeyed her a lot.
Albina felt strange as such Umberto really made her feel weird.
The two sat in the car, silent for a while. The night was already deep, there was no one outside. It was completely dark and silent.
Albina played with her fingers, suddenly thought of something and turned to look at Umberto-This year, have you often gone to honor my mother?
Umberto held the steering wheel, looked straight ahead and said in a low, hoarse voice:
-Yes.
Albina clenched her fingers and bit her lower lip. After a long time, she said in a low voice:
-Thank you… But now I’m back, so there’s no need to bother you to visit his grave.
Umberto frowned, feeling very uncomfortable. Albina treated him too distantly, like a stranger.
He wanted to say that there was nothing annoying at all. But he feared that his attitude was too enthusiastic and would frighten Albina. So he could only keep silent without saying a word.
-It seems that I should try harder in the future and strive to go to the cemetery to worship with a justifiable and righteous identity.
Seeing that he did not speak, Albina calmed down and let out a sigh of relief. Umberto had failed her before, but she owed him a lot too. They seemed to be equals. At this point they no longer owed each other anything.
If Umberto continued to help her, she would feel very uncomfortable.
The car continued to move forward. Albina looked at the time and, unbeknownst to her, they had been walking for almost an hour.
Something seemed to be wrong. When she came, it only took more than 40 minutes to take a cab.
Umberto’s speed was faster than a cab. Besides, there were no traffic jams, so why was it so much slower?
-Umberto, did you make a mistake? -Albina asked tentatively.
Umberto’s body froze. His eyes were a little nervous and his Adam’s apple rolled a little. But his expression was still serious and his tone was puzzled:
-Really? Sorry, I don’t know this area very well. Maybe I took a wrong turn.
Albina’s eyes were suspicious. Umberto had lived in S-town since he was a child. Besides, his home wasn’t in a particularly remote location, how could he not be familiar?
She thought he was doing it on purpose!
-Then I’ll look up the navigation, you can follow the map navigation – Albina said and turned on the phone.
Umberto’s expression was not very pleasant. He turned the steering wheel and his voice was cold:
-No, I seem to have seen your neighborhood.
Albina followed his line of sight and saw a familiar community, as well as the 24-hour clinic at the community’s door.
Umberto’s face was full of pity. If Albina wasn’t so alert, he still wanted to take her on a long detour. He really hoped that the road to take her home would be longer and longer.
-You can drop me off at the clinic-Albina looked at her swollen ankle and called Ariana.
As soon as the phone rang, she answered it.
Ariana’s anxious voice came out:
-Albina, are you back? Did something happen? Why aren’t you home yet?
Albina quickly assured:
-I’m fine, I just sprained my foot. It’s at the clinic at the community gate. Come and pick me up later.
Ariana quickly answered, and then there was a whispering voice on the phone.
-I’ll be right there, wait for me.
When she was talking on the phone, Umberto had been pricking up his ears and listening quietly. He was relieved to hear the girl’s voice on the phone.
After the car stopped, Albina originally just wanted to support Umberto, but when she raised her hand, she was lifted up hugging horizontally.
Umberto easily took her to the clinic and told the doctor to help her with the medicine.
It only took a few minutes after everything was done. But Albina was extremely nervous, seeing that Umberto had no intention of leaving, her eyes kept urging him on.
-Umberto, should you go?
-It’s okay, I’m in no hurry anyway,” Umberto looked at her with a smile. Your foot is hurt, it might be inconvenient later. I’ll take you upstairs.
-No!” Albina stopped him abruptly. It would be so embarrassing if Ariana saw them together.
Before going to the banquet, she also swore to Ariana that she would stay away from Umberto, and would definitely encourage and despise him. However, she was together with Umberto at midnight, which would make Ariana tease her a lot.
Seeing that Albina was really anxious and nervous, Umberto was about to leave and walked towards the door.
She was about to let out a sigh of relief, when suddenly she saw him return, aggressive. He stepped in front of her, lowered his head, narrowed his eyes slightly and stood motionless before her. His eyes fierce and dangerous, like a beast, staring at his prey.
-What, what do you want to do? -Albina stepped back unconsciously, feeling a strong sense of oppression.
