Chapter 48: Please Leave Me Alone

Book:The Blind Wife Published:2024-6-3

Albina turned and stared at Umberto, frowned and said:
-Mr. Santangel, we are already divorced!
It was you who told me that you didn’t like me and left me. Then why did you act so worried about me and made me think that I still liked you very much?
Umberto heard that she wanted to declare the relations between the two of them, his eyes darkened-I just want to take you home.
-That’s not necessary -Albina refused outright. Your fiance just left, maybe you can get her if you hurry. Don’t waste your time with me
Umberto looked at her indifferent appearance, and an unreasoning anger welled up in his heart,
-Don’t wait for Michael, he won’t come!
Albina looked at him suddenly, her beautiful face furious,
-What tricks did you use? Umberto, why are you so despicable?
-Despicable? I don’t think so.
Umberto lowered his head and smiled. As long as he could achieve his goal, what if he was a little mean, not to make unfair money or to kill someone, just for Albina, what would it matter to use some tricks? He could even do the most sinister things.
Albina didn’t pay attention to him and advanced in big steps with high heels.
Umberto didn’t force her, he drove the car very slowly. He followed her and kept talking to her:
-Albina, you should have noticed it when you came here today. The way down the mountain is very long. According to your walking speed, when you go down the mountain, it will be dawn.
-So what? I walk however I want, even if I made it to sunset tomorrow, it has nothing to do with you! -Albina was very grumpy and did not speak to him with any kind tone.
To be honest, Umberto and Albina had been married for three years. He was already used to seeing her gentle and stubborn appearance. He had never seen her so vivid, with the fiery personality. The flames in her eyes made him feel very cool.
-They say there are wild wolves on the mountain road here. If I go, you’ll be left alone here.
Umberto said, as if to cooperate with him, in fact, there were some wolf howls in the valley not far away.
Albina shuddered abruptly. Her face turned pale and there was no blood on her face. No, no, no, no, are there really wolves here? Why did the Eagle Family build their village on such a mountain with wolves?
Umberto originally wanted to tease her. But when he saw her pale face, he felt worried again.
-Get in the car. I won’t take you home, I’ll just drive you downstairs to where you can take a taxi-Umberto’s voice was very low.
Albina turned to look at him suddenly:
-Mr. Santangel, I have a boyfriend. You are my ex-husband and you also have a fiance. We must avoid being together. Your fiance has been worried that I will disturb you. If she knows you invite me into your car, she will never leave me alone. Besides, if your mother knows we still have contact, who knows what crazy things she’ll do.
-Umberto, I really don’t want to get tangled up with you anymore. I don’t care anymore about the past that you took advantage of me and abandoned me, I beg you to leave me alone!
Her words were very decisive and her attitude was firm. Umberto had never suffered any aggravation since he was a child. He always did whatever he wanted. Where he was, others always flattered and condescended to him. There had never been a case against his will.
He had repeatedly given in for her, tolerating her, apologizing to her and flattering her. When he heard that she was so anxious to get away from him, the smile on his face suddenly disappeared. His face became cold and his eyes were as icy as if they were dipped in a cold pool:
-Albina, do you hate me so much?
When he said this, her heart ached deafly, stubbornly waiting for his answer.
Albina looked into his cold eyes, clenched her fingers tightly and nodded fiercely for a long time:
-Yes, so keep your distance from me, okay?
Umberto’s eyes suddenly turned red and he looked deeply at her. He turned his head and said in a low voice:
-All right, as you wish!
Saying that, he stepped on the accelerator. The car that kept on sliding the car at a turtle speed suddenly jumped forward and disappeared all at once.
When she saw it disappear along with the car, Albina clenched her fist against her chest. It felt as if a big hole had opened up there where the wind was blowing.
-How can you be so humble? You’re already completely disappointed and you want to give it up. Why do you feel sad?
She muttered under her breath, as if she was talking to herself, but also as if she was scolding herself.
The wind in the mountains was too cold. Her dress was covered with a coat, which could not withstand the strong wind at all. She walked forward with difficulty and her feet hurt stepping on high heels.
There was no one around but unfamiliar voices. Albina’s eyes were full of vigilance.
The howl of the wolf she heard a moment ago really scared her. She was really scared. If suddenly a wolf jumped on the road, tomorrow it would be on the legal news before she could avenge her parents.
She was scared inside and exhausted as far as her body was concerned. Besides, there was no one around except for the sound of wind and insects. She felt more and more aggrieved as she walked. Her eyes were red and tears were falling unconsciously.
She missed her parents too. If they didn’t die, they should all be home right now, lying comfortably on the quilt.
Albina fantasized about that scene which was too beautiful, but now it saddened her even more. Because she was immersed in fantasy, she did not notice the path under her feet. She stepped on a small stone and didn’t steady herself, so her foot twisted.
She fell to the ground suddenly and her ankle hurt so much.
But there was still a long way to go down the mountain. He turned on his cell phone, but found that there was no signal at all. He tried to stand up and wanted to take a few steps. But when his feet touched the ground, it hurt terribly.
Albina was sitting on the cold ground, overwhelmed with grievances and sadness in her heart. Her tears kept falling, she raised her hand to wipe them away, but new tears slid down and she couldn’t wipe them away.
Taking advantage of the fact that no one was around, she simply curled up. She sank her face into her knees, moaned and cried very miserably and sadly.
-Hey… I’m really hopeless with you!
After an unknown amount of time, she heard a deep sigh in front of her. She raised her head suddenly and met Umberto’s cold eyes.
Umberto looked at her stunned and her lovely peach blossom eyes were red and swollen from crying. She was looking at him in such a silly, pitiful, cute way.
She was stunned for a long time before she realized that Umberto had returned.
She wanted to step back suddenly, but forgot that her foot was sprained. Her expression twisted in pain.
Thrown into Umberto’s arms by Umberto, his thin arms held her tightly. He asked in a low, helpless voice:
-Does your foot hurt?
He was really angry with Albina and it also hurt his heart. He gave up and wanted to stop meddling in her affairs. But halfway there, he couldn’t stop worrying that she would be left alone. Returning, he saw her sitting on the ground, hugging her knees and crying like a child.
It was like being abandoned by everyone, which also made him sad.
Albina was so ashamed. Just now, she was trying to be brave in front of Umberto. But in the blink of an eye, she saw him crying with a weeping girl.
How could she not feel ashamed?
-I don’t want your sympathy! -Albina looked at him stubbornly with slightly swollen peach blossom eyes.
Umberto touched her hair and smiled slightly-All right, I don’t sympathize with you. I am overflowing with kindness to help those who need my help.
-Umberto! -Albina blushed, looking at him with embarrassment and annoyance. She was not a child, so there was no need for him to convince her that way.
Umberto’s voice was hoarse:
-My name is not Umberto now, miss , please call me good man.
Albina did not know what to say.
When she was in the saddest moment of her life, Umberto suddenly picked her up and hugged her. He opened the passenger door of his car and let her sit on the seat temporarily.
Her clear, smooth legs were exposed outside the car. Umberto fixed his gaze on her feet, bent down and held her cold ankles with large, warm hands. He carefully removed his high heels.
-I’m going to check the wound on your foot.
The temperature in his palm was very high. Albina felt as if she had been scalded and wanted to awkwardly remove her feet.
This position was so uncomfortable.
Her dress had a split design so her long legs were unreservedly exposed. her white skin glowed softly in the moonlight, like fine white porcelain.
In Umberto’s position, as long as she lifted her head a little, she could see the places she shouldn’t see.
