Mrs. Marvin was glad to see that her daughter was sound and safe and she had no scratch not burnt on her.
“How are you doing this morning mom, hope you took your medication before coming here”, Bethany inquired but her mother was more concerned with taking Glenn off her extensions and asking where Duke was.
Bethany wondering why her mother was asking for that nuisance whereas her daughter was standing in front of her, said that he was still in his car.
” What about Rachel, where is she?”, Mrs. Marvin asked, and only then did she realize that she had not checked on Rachel who had slept in Henry’s car.
“She is with Sir Henry, Sir Duke’s friend”, she responded.
As she had finished speaking, Duke and Henry ambling into the hospital, and on catching a glimpse of them, the first thing Bethany asked was where Rachel was.
Henry, in a confused state, welcomed Mrs. Marvin and told Bethany that Rachel was still asleep at the back of his car.
Mrs. Marvin reciprocated his salutation and asked how they both were feeling, and also thanking them for not leaving Bethany and the kids all to themselves last night.
Duke smiled and let out,
” It was nothing, Eva is my employee and also a friend so it is no big deal”.
Looking around, Mrs. Marvin, raised a question as to know who is in charge of Eva so that she could talk to him as they go to freshen up and take some rest while she stays back to take care of Eva.
Bethany was not comfortable with that idea as she rejected it but her mother insisted that she had to get home to shower and eat something as she had bad breath, and also the girls needed to shower as well and change into new clothes after the traumatic experience that they had been through.
With no further excuses, Bethany accepted her mother’s terms, and throwing a spiteful sight at Duke, she took her mother to the nurse in charge of Eva and the nurse took them to the Doctor in charge.
Knocking at the doctor’s office, she responded and told the nurse to come in.
“Doctor June, the friends of the Patient ward 5 are here to see you.
Inquiring from her, she clarified herself as she asked whether it was the patient that was brought from the fire incident, and the nurse nodded in acceptance.
” Okay, you may let them inside”, she spoke up inclining to search for another patient’s file that has fallen beneath the table.
Bethany and her mom went inside the office as instructed by the nurse, and saluting the doctor, she responded and asked them both to have a seat.
Henry and Duke followed inside and when they got inside, Henry was shocked by whom he was seeing,
“Carol?”, Henry raised a question not knowing whether to be happy or sad.
Taking up her head to catch a glimpse of the person who had just called her name, she was dumbfounded as she had in front of her two headstrong friends and former classmates.
Rising to her feet, she walked from behind her table, hugging Henry first a hug and going over to Duke and giving him a very tight hug, made Bethany’s heartache the more.
She was chuckling so much as she held Duke saying,
” It’s been long Duke and you are still that one fine young man”, she spoke out trying to maintain eye contact with him, but Duke was more concerned about Bethany’s look as he was aware that, it was only going to ruin his chances of asking her out.
In a surprise, Mrs. Marvin consulted whether they knew each other, and Henry, with all his teeth outside, replied with a yes as the doctor happens to be their college schoolmate and classmate.
Mrs. Marvin was wowed and told her it was nice to meet her again.
” So what are you guys doing here?”, she informed as she returned to her seat.
Henry, speaking out, explained that a friend of theirs was caught up in the fire and she was currently receiving treatment in that hospital.
“Oh I see who you are referring to, the young lady in ward 5 right?”, she consulted.
Checking her system and returning to them, she told them not to worry as she will be fine in a day or two.
” She just suffered from inhaling too much smoke coupled with the fact that, the heat on her skin was too much, but aside from that, she will be okay”, Dr. Carol spoke out without taking out her gaze from Duke.
“Please Doctor, do all you can to make her fine, she is my friend”, Bethany spoke out in a weird tone that even her mother wondered what was happening with her.
The doctor raised the concern that the nurse had told them about the previous night and Mrs. Marvin, accepted to stand as Eva’s mother since she was an orphan.
” Okay, if that is all, I believe we have no problems with anything then?”, Dr. Carol spoke out as she brought out the documents for Mrs. Marvin to fill up and sign.
Henry who had noticed what was going on could tell how his friend was feeling as Carol was not going to relent on having him back.
Carol was one of Duke’s escapades when he was still in high school and it was all fun for him till Carol became too attached with made him break up with her.
Back then, she almost took her own life away and the matter had become so bad, that both parents had to get involved and it was divided that, she will be flown abroad so that she could forget about all the things that happened back home.
Having her face-to-face to Duke again, and catching sight of her behavior, are going to be a problem if not handled with care.
Mrs. Marvin was done with the input, and Henry told Carol not to ask anything from the young lady who is her patient as he was going to shoulder all the expenses.
Carol informed Henry not to bother as she was going to take care of that for old time’s sake, but Henry insisted on paying the hospital bills so she just had to accept.
Bethany who was clothed with Jealousy rose to her feet and told her mother that she was going to get Rachel from the car so that they could both go home.
As she was about to leave with Glenn in her arms, she heard the Doctor say,
“Duke can I have a word with you?”.
This was the icing on the cake as it throw Bethany out of herself but she managed to get control over her emotions as she walked out of Carol’s office.
Duke not wanting to get into trouble, told Carol that they were going to talk some other time as he desired to go back and shower.
Mrs. Marvin walking behind Bethany and calling her out, asked her daughter what the matter was but she said nothing.
Instead, she placed with her mother to please take care of Eva while she goes home and has taken a bath with some rest.
” Bethany, do not try to change the subject because I saw you feeling all sad in there, are you jealous?”, Mrs. Marvin let out.
Bethany opened her eyes in a state of shock, asked her mother why she will even think of a thing like that and why she will be jealous of someone she has no feelings for.
Letting out a smile and shaking her head, her mother responded,
“How will I know if you have feelings for him or not when you are the person acting strange”, she added.
Mrs. Marvin could narrate everything about her daughter even with her eyes closed, and that attitude that she displayed in there, wasn’t just an ordinary one and she was set on getting to the bottom of things.
While they were still talking, Duke and Henry walked up to them and Henry appreciated Mrs. Marvin for volunteering to watch over Eva told her to call him in case she needed anything, and also said there was a restaurant just by the hospital should she want to eat something.
Mrs. Marvin smiled at him explaining that, Eva is also her daughter and it is but normal to take care of her as well.
” You have a kind heart ma’am”, Henry let out.
Bethany, who could not stand the sight of Duke, hugged her mom saying that she was leaving now and telling her to take care of herself too.
Duke raising a question on whether to drop Bethany and the kids in their house, received a very aggressive response from her that maid even her mother to wonder what the matter was with her daughter.
“I do not need your help, I know the way to the road to get a cab”, Bethany responded with fury in her eyes and turned her back walking out of the hospital.
Henry, and Mrs. Marvin, confused about the situation, inquired from Duke whether he had done anything to offend her but Duke being as confused as they were, said he cannot remember making her so angry as to react in that manner.
Mrs. Marvin apologized on her daughter’s behalf while asking the two gentlemen to go get some rest.
Bethany, on arriving where Henry had parked his car, found out that Rachel was already awake and was crying out her eyes.
Approaching her, she asked what the matter was and Rachel feeling all sad, said that she was not happy about her sister’s condition.
” Do not worry about that, everything has been settle, your sister is fine now”, Bethany reassured her as she wiped off her tears.
Rachel raising her eyes to meet Bethany’s told her that she was a good person and that she was going to make a great mom.
Bethany laughing out loud told Rachel not to flatter her and to come down of the car so that they could go home and take their baths while they change into some new clothes and have some food too.
Stepping out of the car, Rachel hugged her firmly and they turned to go get a cab when they bumped into Henry and Duke who were both coming to get their cars.
“Good morning Sir Duke and Sir Henry”, Rachel spoke out with a smile.
Henry caressed her hair and asked how her night was and she asserted that it was fine.
Duke, on the other hand, told her not to worry as her sister was in good hands.
Glenn, who has been sleeping despite the noise and movement from one place to the other with her in Bethany’s arms, was finally awake from her slumber and touching her face with her hands while yawning, her gaze fell on Duke immediately.
Moving her body as she wanted to go to Duke, Bethany could not stop her from what she wished for so with a look of resentment, she gave Glenn to Duke while looking elsewhere.
Henry who was worried about his Mother’s health and also needed to have some rest informed them about his leaving and he touched Glenn’s cheek while he kissed Rachel’s forehead saying,
” I am going to meet you soon okay?”.
Rachel was happy and wished him a great day and enough rest.
Glenn who could not get enough of Duke clung to him, and Bethany asking her to come down so that they could go home and rest, could not get her to as she did not look like she was leaving Duke anytime soon.
“Duke, can I go with you to your house?”, she asked, smiling and holding his neck with her little fingers.
Bethany trying to stop her to no avail got tired of trying and Duke asked them to get in the car while he drops them off and head to his house.
Rachel thanked him and entered the car while he sat Glenn at the front sit passing the seat belt on her and returning to his seat.
Bethany who was still angry stood there and was watching him do all those things and when he had noticed that she was not getting inside, he started his car and made like he was going to drive out of the hospital when Bethany yelled out for him to stop and she entered and sat behind by Rachel.
Duke, letting out a heinous smile, looked at Bethany wringing her face through his rearview mirror and asked,
” Are we all set ladies?”, and Glenn responded with so much joy followed by Rachel so Duke took off for Marvin’s lodging.
The excursion to Bethany’s shack was very quiet, except for Glenn’s warping as she made sounds with her mouth peeping at Duke.
Anyone who could catch a sight of them both, will not hesitate to say that Duke was Glenn’s father as her attachment to him was very questionable.
The chemistry little Glenn shared with Duke right from the very first moment that she set her eyes on him, was so rare.
Arriving at the entrance of her house, he pulled up the car and said,
“Ladies, here we are”.
Bethany unlocked the door and stepped down while getting to the front door to take Glenn.
Rachel came down and tanked Duke for bringing them back home and also told him to take care of himself and to remember to have some quiet moment with Bethany.
She walked into the house after saying that and Bethany stood there with her mouth open as she watch Rachel leave.
Rolling her stare to Duke, she noticed that he was grinning as he felt all happy from what a little girl had said,
” Do not get your hopes up because I will never go out with Womaniser like yourself”, she said slamming the door of his car.
Glenn, from Bethany’s shoulder, waved happily to Duke as she was been taken into the house.
Smiling like a little fool outside Bethany’s house, Duke could confirm what Henry had told him last night and was certain that, Bethany is in love with him from her behavior but what he did not know how to tackle was the fact that, he has never been faced with such a complicated lady before.
Turning on his engine, he drove from there to his house with a little hope of being with someone who loves him genuinely though she has a tough character.
Bethany, meeting Bryan sitting and playing the game, begged him to please warm water for her to bath Glenn with.
“I am happy that you all are fine, mom told me what happened yesterday”, Bryan related.
Lowering her head down in sadness, her gaze went on Eva’s sisters as she felt sorry for them.
Bethany smiled at her brother and told him that everything was under control now.
Bryan left for the kitchen and her attention was turned to Rachel as she instructed her to get into the bathroom and take her bath and she should also wait for her to hand a new toothbrush for her teeth.
Rachel rose to her feet and headed for the bathroom while Bethany waited for the water to be hot to have Glenn take her bath as well as hers.
Paying attention to Glenn, she sat by her and asked what the matter was as she had become all moody and Glenn responded with a question inquiring from her when she was going to be able to see the nice man again.
Bethany, who could not refuse anything from Glenn, though she did not want to cross Duke’s path again, told her that she will be seeing him very soon.
Glenn was happy to listen to that, and she danced in happiness and Bethany smiled knowing that her innocence was still intact and how little things could make her so happy.
Bryan notified his sister that the water was already hot so Bethany asked him to pour it in a bowl bad give it to her.
” Are you ready to take your bath now and change your clothes?”, she asked Glenn who was all delighted and she screamed in joy.
Looking at her size, Glenn was going to have a problem with an outfit as there was no child of that age at home anymore.
Bethany, could not think of anything to put on her so she thought of using one of her skinny blouses, like a robe on her.
Her idea made her laugh so much just at the imagination of it on little Glenn.
She rose to her feet and taking Glenn to the bathroom, she handed a clean towel to Rachel and asked her to dry herself with it and to choose from her diseases what she was going to out on.
The thought of them not having dresses got Bethany worried and she was more nervous over the fact that she had no money to buy her decks out.
Holding her head cause of overthinking, she went into the bathroom with Glenn to get down with the bath and make something for them to eat.
Duke arriving home and meeting a strange car parked in the parking lodge, stationed his and came down with tiredness written all over his face.
Walking through the house, he had just one aim which was to take a shower and fall on his bed, wrapped up in his clean white sheets as he sleeps off.
He had made sure to call his office to inform them that he was not going to be at the corporation so they had to handle everything.
As Duke was about to lay his first step on the stairs, he heard someone call him from behind and when he turned to see who it was, he saw Sylvia standing there with an apron.
