Duke’s mother was happy that she had fallen for her son just at first sight, so she told her to play her cards well and everyone was going to walk away smiling as she was going to become a grandmother.
Duke who was in his room, could not stop thinking of the wonderful day he had spent in the company of good people as he was welcomed heartily.
His thoughts narrowed down to the short but inciting moments he had with Bethany in the kitchen and how soft and beautiful she looked just like a princess.
“Duke, you are falling for that simple girl and you are not to have feelings for any woman”, he tried convincing himself as he walked to the bathroom to have a shower.
While still at the bathroom, all his head was just crowded with Bethany and how her simplicity and difficult attitude drew him closer to her without knowing.
All his life, he has always been followed by women and he did not have to stress a finger to get any woman he desired in his bed, but Bethany was so different from the hundreds of ladies he had known and slept with.
She was beautiful in an unapologetic way, though not as beautiful as the dozen of women he has been with in his life, hers was so notable that no man in his right senses will be able to resist her.
Her determination in life and her focus to achieve her goals are the sole factors that drive Duke crazy, as she does not like unnecessary favors as she saw them as a means to take advantage of her.
” Where have you been all my life?”, Duke grumbled aloud as he was under the cannonade rubbing his head with his hand and imagining her in his life and arms.
Dike had not known Bethany for long, but from the little he had known just from seeing her for the little time that he has seen her and also to read her actions and the words that fall out of her mouth, he was aware that she is that kind of woman that he will want to spend his life with.
The kind of lady that he will want to have kids with and enjoy happiness in marriage.
Duke closed the shower and turned to face the mirror in his bathroom surprised at the things that he has been thinking from the day that he set his eyes on Bethany till now.
“Did I also remark that she is an excellent cook?”, he asked himself laughing out so hard that he could not believe that he was having such a moment.
Duke was feeling something indescribable to him and he did not know how to go about it or what to do.
He was certain that his friend Henry is the best person to advise him on what to do about such a situation, as he is more romantic than he is in relationship matters.
He left his bathroom room after brushing his teeth and wiping his body with his towel, entering his room and just thinking of how shy and innocent Bethany is and how devoted she is too.
His heart could not stop beating that bought as he had spent one of the best moments in a long while and that too in the company of a lovely woman who had become like a mother to him, Mrs. Marvin.
Putting on his pajama and increasing the coldness of his air condition, he climbed on his bed and took picked up his phone from his side table to dial his friend’s number.
He had already dialed his number before he remembered that he had an unfinished business with the doctor at the hospital who is harassing Bethany, and he had to teach him a lesson.
Bethany was on her bed, thinking of Duke as well, and could not hide the content of her joy as she kept on rolling on the bed restless.
” What is wrong with me, why don’t keep on thinking about him?”, she asked herself pressing her eyes with her fingers to find sleep but unfortunately sleep was not anywhere near them.
She wondered why Duke had suddenly come to her house and why he had brought so many things to give them as though they were lacking something to eat and drink.
“He is so arrogant and full of himself”, She spoke out in an irritated mood twisting her face as though Duke was still in front of her.
She had this hatred for rich people and she felt like Duke was just showing a side of him that was not real and that he was going to show the other side sooner or later.
As she was deep in thought, she could not deny the fact that she was already falling for him as he was all over her mind and she could not stop thinking about him and wishing that he could drop by again tomorrow.
Though her mouth was speaking something else and her actions were the opposite, she got distracted by a text message that had entered her phone and the message was from her friend Eva telling her that she had reached home safely.
Bethany felt bad as she had completely forgotten to message her friend to ask her how she had managed to get home fine or not.
She replied to Evas message apologizing for not texting her to find out whether or not she had finally reached her house.
Eva, wanting to tease her friend, as usual, divided to call instead as her gossip mood was not going to be effective enough through messages.
When Crystal saw a call instead of a message, she knew that Eva was not going to get her rest till she had finally taken that call.
With a stillness, she picked up and the call, and before she could even place the phone on her ear, Eva had already asked her like ten questions.
” Eva you are so silly”, she told her friend laughing out as she could not understand how she was able to cope with her insanity all the time and for all these years.
Eva responding to her laughter with hers informed her that she loves her madness like that.
Eva’s excitement could be heard from the other side of the phone as she was so happy that her friend was getting some feelings for someone.
“Tell me everything you are feeling now Betty, I am in my bed listening to you”, she said as she was waiting patiently for her friend to spill out her emotions.
Bethany who was just quiet continued to hear her friends breathe and when she felt like Eva was getting impatient, she buries out of laughter.
Eva asked her why she was laughing and she could not catch her breath as the moment was funny for her.
” Eva you love to gossip so much”, she told her friend, and they both bust out laughing.
On the days coming, you will joy be able to laugh at me again because I will be the one to laugh at how deep you must have fallen for Sir Duke and your head will be just about him.
Bethany, defending herself, told her friend that it was never going to happen to grind her teeth in her mouth as she was not even confident about what she was saying.
Eva chuckles as she copies her friend’s words, making them both laugh so hard again.
“Eva goes to bed now, and let me be with your stupid questions”, Betty spoke out.
Eva knew for a fact that Bethany was just looking for a way to evade the question but she was not letting it go that easily.
Bethany, becoming emotional, ask her friend a question that made her shout in so much joy.
” Eva, do you think that Duke can ever love someone like me with all the girls he gets to see every day?”, Bethany asked convened about the situation she was finding herself in, and Eva who had been listening screamed out like a mad lesson who has been let loose.
She told her friend not to panic and to observe every little detail that has happened since she knows him.
Bethany searched her head and found some imprints of care and concern from him as she was in difficult situations.
She recollected their last encounter when she was complaining of what Dr. Travis was asking her to do just to be able to save her mother and Duke got red from anger and almost went inside to fight him.
Eva who had been listening to her asked her to keep on listing everything she could remember to draw her conclusion alone and decide if what she was feeling was palpable and only she could take that decision.
Bethany kept In reflecting on everything that happened till she was convinced that her friend had a point as Duke might be feeling something for her.
She was excited for him to ask her out and she was starting to give love a chance as she also saw how happy her mother was around him.
Eva was happy hearing her friend say that and she also told her friend that, while they were at her house, Henry’s company had sent a message saying that they will be having an interview tomorrow at 7:30 am and that she was going to forward her the company’s name as well as the direction.
Bethany was glad to hear that finally, she was going to have something doing while crossing her fingers to ask for a loan immediately she starts working to help her mother get the surgery that she needs.
Bethany thanked her friend for standing by her always and with tears rolling down her eyes, she told Eva that she will always remember her kindness towards her and her family.
Eva told her not to worry and to go have to rest as tomorrow is going to be another day for greater things.
Bethany wished her friend a good night and said they were going to continue their conversation the next day in person and Eva accepted with a happy voice.
She hung up the phone and fell on her bed thinking about her mother, so she got up and went to her mother’s room, pushing the door slightly so as not to wake her from her sleep.
She had finally managed to have some sleep and her breathing was normal so was her temperature when Bethany touched her.
“Sleep little mama and know that you will not die even if it has to be the last thing that I will do in this life”, she spoke out with tears in her eyes as she got up and left her room so as not to disturb her with the noise that she could make in there.
Walking to the sitting room, she still found Bryan playing his games, and she told him to switch off everything before going to bed.
Bryan accepted with his whole being still focused on the PS player that was in front of him.
Bethany smiled as she shook her head, watching him play so innocently without knowing what was going on.
He was on holiday and all he had to do was to enjoy his break while waiting for school to resume.
Bethany walked to her room, shutting her door behind her and climbing on her bed.
She laid down flat in her back, with her head supported by her pillow and her hands crossed on her chest as she could not have control over her mind as it went back to thinking about the fine man that had spent his whole day in her house with her family.
Duke too was in that same position on his bed, but his right arm was used as double support as it was placed under his head with all of his reflection on Bethany.
He had also made arrangements for the driver who is to pick Mrs. Marvin up to be at her house before noon and to also make her feel comfortable.
He breathe out with a force and turned his side as he waited for the call of nature to come to knock on his eyes.
Eva too was thinking about Henry, as well as he was also thinking about her.
It was a lovable night as our four soon-to-be lovers thought of each other as the last memories they have before completely blacking out.
The day could be seen as Mrs. Marvin, was awake already and was in the kitchen doing some chores so as not to wake her children.
Bethany who had been woken up by the sound of a plate that had fallen in the kitchen, jumped out of her bed in a state of confusion as she rushed into her mother’s room to check if she was doing okay.
Reaching her mother’s room and not finding her there, she panicked and started calling her mama’s name running to get out of the house.
Her mother answered from the kitchen, and on hearing her mother’s voice, she followed the direction walking into the kitchen with a worried face asking her mom what she was doing in there.
Mrs. Marvin who could feel the anger in her daughter’s voice tried to explain that she could not find sleep anymore and she did not want to disturb them, so she looked for something to occupy himself.
Bethany telling her mom to leave everything that she was doing inside the kitchen and to follow her, took her to the sitting room and as they reached the sitting room for her mother to have a seat on the couch, she realized that Bryan had slept off on the sofa just right where he was playing his video games.
On seeing that’s, she touched him gently to wake him up to go inside his room.
She sat her mother down and looked at the time. It was 6:12 am and she said to herself that she still had some time left to carry out other house duties before going to take her bath.
She rapidly went into the kitchen, while Bryan got up and went into his room to continue with his slumber.
Bethany, asking her mom if she has brushed her teeth as she made her breakfast, went into her room to get her drugs and she arranged her bed at once before coming out.
The omelets were ready and her mother’s cup of tea was made hot just as she normally likes it.
” Thank you Betty”, her mother spoke while sitting down in the dining and began to eat.
Bethany told her mother about the interview she is supposed to have that morning and said she had to go shower so as not to be late for the interview.
She went into her room and entered her bath. She took her bath and came out still looking at the time so as not to make any mistakes.
She rushed through her wardrobe looking for the dress that will be appropriate for the interview and she found a knee black skirt and a white blouse and a pair of low shoes.
“This will be very comfortable”, she said, and dressed up quickly,
She took out the knot on her hair and rushing her hair on the mirror, she held it in a ponytail way leaving the upper part to fall while touching her neck.
After she was done, she took her file and bag putting her phone too without even checking to know if she has any missed calls or messages.
She went into the sitting room and told her mother that she was leaving.
Hugging her mom, she wished her a splendid day and left for the company.
When Bethany was already in the street to get a can, only then did she realize that she was not aware of the location and she opened her bag to take out her phone as she remembered that friend was to send the address last night before she slept off.
Taking out her phone from her backpack with one rapidity that bids the eye, she held it in her hand unlocked it to check if the message had already come.
” 10 missed calls?”, she exclaimed as Eva had called all morning and had left messages for her but she had not seen
Reading the messages she saw the address of the firm and also realized that, Eva had been waiting for her to give the go signal is that they could meet and go for the interview together but Bethany had not seen it.
She immediately dialed Eva’s number and waited for her to pick up as the phone rang.
Eva finally picked up the call and Bethany greeted her friend and apologize for not responding to her messages nor calls.
She explained that she had to take care of her mom first before leaving and her phone was in her room on vibration mode.
Eva told her not to worry and to hurry up as time was passing and she was already there.
Bethany told her to wait for her and she boarded the next cab that she saw to “Brightons group of Corporation”.
While in the taxi she urged the driver to go a little bit faster than the sowed he was using because she was left just with 10minutes to reach there.
She kept on looking at her watch and kept her fingers crossed not arrived at the company late so as not to give a bad impression of her.
Duke had just woken up as he stretches his body like a cat that had some good warmth in the night.
Just as he was about to step down from his bed, he received a call telling him what he wanted to hear.
