Agnes couldn’t wait to see the face of the person who saved her. She was deeply grateful to him.
Cold shivers went down Agnes’s spine when she remembered what happened a few hours ago. She was about to be devoured by a lion, and she was expecting her mistress to help her since she had stronger powers, but her mistress didn’t even care.
Agnes saw her mistress flying ahead of everyone who was in the forest. Her mistress left all of them to die while she flew to safety.
Agnes felt betrayed and upset. She knew Her mistress had no iota of sympathy for anyone, but what hurt her most was her mistress leaving her behind to die.
Her mistress had enough power to save her, but she just ignored her.
She had served Beatrice faithfully for years, yet her mistress was still selfish as ever.
After flying for hours, the surviving soldiers and Beatrice finally got to the kingdom and headed to the palace.
The soldier who had carried Agnes all along placed her down when they finally arrived.
He turned to leave when Agnes asked,
“Who are you?”
“No one important,” the soldier replied and left without looking back.
Beatrice, who was already seated on her throne and, was breathing heavily, looked up, and her gaze locked with that of Agnes. She was so surprised to see Agnes. The last she checked, she left Agnes to die in the forest.
Beatrice knew she could have helped Agnes out back then but of recent, she was beginning to hate Agnes.
Agnes have become so perfect in everything she had taught her, and it scared her to the core.
Beatrice was jealous of her apprentice.
She didn’t want to be killed by Agnes, so she decided to let her die, but unexpectedly Agnes won.
Agnes stood still for some seconds, giving Beatrice deadly gazes before finally saying,
“You left me to die, right? What did I do to you?”
“Oh dear, you know we all got frightened and no one was in their right minds then, we all just wanted to get to safety,” Beatrice skillfully denied.
“Lies! Lies!! Lies!!! All you do is lie to protect yourself. You have enough power that could kill all those lions. With just a snap of a finger, they’ll die, but you left those innocent soldiers to be killed by those wild animals and also left me to die.”
“Well, so?” Beatrice asked confidently without no remorse, and that hurt Agnes even more.
“Really? I respect you a lot, mistress, and I also know you don’t value lives, but I’m talking about my life and lives of people who were serving you faithfully.”
“You led them to a hunt so you could kill them, right? How am I sure you weren’t the one who controlled the lions? Children lost their fathers! Are you not getting it?” Agnes yelled when she couldn’t hold back anymore.
“Although I wasn’t the one who controlled the lions, I really wanted you to die by their hands,” Beatrice dropped with the deadliest expression on her face.
Agnes opened her mouth wide in shock. So her suspicions were right, her mistress really left her there to die, but what did she do to her mistress?
Agnes knew that for a long time, she hasn’t offended her mistress, so what could possibly be the reason for her mistress wanting her to die?
“Then again, I’m so surprised to see the emotional part of you. You are also as wicked as I am, sweetie. All Tracy’s life, you were her only friend, yet you sold her out to me and that resulted in the killing of her father. Ain’t you so wicked?”
Agnes felt guilty inside of her. She really betrayed Tracy, but she was acting on her mistress’s order.
“I was only doing what you asked me to do. I was following orders!”
“Oh please, you had a choice to say NO. I never forced you to do it, poverty-stricken thing!”
Beatrice was fuming with anger, the only reason why she hasn’t inflicted pains on and killed Agnes was because they made a blood covenant. Trying to kill Agnes with her hands was going to make her magic work against her.
“What did I do to you?” Agnes asked, hurt and curious.
“You want to know what you did? Oh! Beautiful. You are becoming so perfect with everything that it now irritates me. You are no more that naive and dumb girl that I picked up. I hate you for growing up and knowing how to do things just well. I regret ever saving you that day.”
Agnes looked at her mistress, stunned. What was her mistress even saying? Did she want her to remain dumb forever? Of course, as a person, it was normal for her to grow up. Her mistress wasn’t making sense at all.
So her only offense was that she become perfect with the things her same mistress taught her.
Agnes scoffed in disbelief before saying,
“So you are scared that I’ll do better than you.”
Beatrice even grew angrier. It was as though, Agnes poured salt on her open wound.
“You can never do better than me. Shut your stinky foolish mouth before I shut it up for you,” Beatrice warned, with the hatred she now had for Agnes growing deeper.
Agnes realized that her suspicions were right again, so her mistress was afraid of her killing her and taking over the kingdom, but truth is, she never thought of anything like that. It hurts to see her mistress hate her because of a stolen throne. Her mistress stole the throne from Sabastine.
“After all I did for you,” Agnes said, looking so sad.
“What exactly did you do for me? I saved you, gave you shelter, food, clothing. I gave your life a meaning when it had none. So what exactly did you do for me?” Beatrice felt so insulted by Agnes.
“I gave you your greatest win. I made it possible for you to access Tracy and even made her give you her blood easily. I brought innocent preys to you. Not only that, I was your eyes, I also went about gathering information for you. I did things for you at my discomfort. You can’t even deny that.”
Beatrice was beyond astonished, Agnes has grown so bold that she could now talk back at her. The audacity of Agnes was just too much for her to contain.
“Let’s break the covenant,” Beatrice said, and a knife magically appeared in her hand. She tore a side of her thumb with the knife and blood began to gush out.
Beatrice couldn’t stand Agnes anymore, she just wanted to break the covenant and throw Agnes into prison, who knows? She may have need of her someday.
“Yes, let’s break the covenant,” Agnes threw Beatrice off guard with her word.
Beatrice was beyond perplexed at Agnes’s reply. Agnes was supposed to be begging her, but instead she also wanted to break the covenant.
Beatrice handed over the knife to Agnes, of which she refused to collect from Beatrice. Agnes didn’t trust her mistress, the knife could be poisoned, who knows?
Agnes removed her hairpin and pierced her thumb too.
Beatrice was really impressed and hurt by what Agnes did, but she just pretended like she wasn’t hurt by it.
They both rubbed their thumb to each other’s own, so the blood could mix.
“I Beatrice denounce you as my apprentice now and forever,” Beatrice simply said.
“I Agnes break out from being your maid. I’ll no more serve you. You have no more right to monitor my life. You cannot send me on an errand anymore. I’ll no longer bring information to you. And you’ll die lonely.”
After saying those words, they licked the blood on their thumb.
The covenant binding them was broken.
“Throw her into the prison where Tracy is.”
