MEGAN
IT’D BEEN two weeks since our trip to England. After the approval of their project, I officially met his mother. I stayed for two days at their manor. Still, I found it hard to believe how rich Forrest was, how he managed his businesses during the day and worked as the low-key bartender at night.
When I got home, I stayed with Mom for the whole two weeks, taking care of her even though she had a servant at home. I even went with her to her prenatal appointment. It was a relief that they were both healthy.
I quit the part-time receptionist job when Beth came back to work. Last month, Forrest offered me the most attractive job that it was hard to say no to. It took two days for us to give each other the cold shoulder when I chose to turn it down.
“Can you just consider it already? It’s just a job, Megan. Stop being stubborn. I bloody want this relationship to work as much as you want it. I want you to be here with me. Just say yes, please?”
“If I say no, then it is no. Stop pushing that job on me, and stop using that offer over our relationship. We can get through this. Consider my feelings, as well. What if that’s not the right one for me? And this is for the long haul, Forrest. At least let me think.”
“Four bloody weeks are not enough? I’ve been waiting for the whole damn month, and your answer is still no? Some waiting applicants are fit for the job, but I want you to have it.”
“Is that so? Because I don’t have bright credentials, and I’m not holding a diploma from MIT or Harvard, and I shouldn’t be picky about choosing the right job for me, right?”
“That’s not I meant, love.”
“That’s exactly what you mean. Maybe I should update my resume on why I got fired. That my boss wanted to fuck me. Well, screw you and your job offer.”
After I hung up the phone, I called and apologized to him. Of course, he was Forrest, and it still made me teary how I got so lucky to have a man like him.
I just didn’t want to work with him because he was my boyfriend, but I had also to consider searching for a decent job if I had to stay in a foreign land and far from home. So, I decided to pass some resumes and did a lot of research because I knew it needed huge adjustments from culture shock and some sort, but this time I had to sacrifice something for the sake of our relationship to work.
“Why don’t you take a leave until you give birth, Mom?”
“I’m gonna be more bored at home, Meggie.” She grabbed her bag and kissed me on the cheek.
“Just take care, okay?”
“I can’t believe you’re saying this to me. I feel so old right now. I can still remember your first day at preschool. I don’t wanna let your hand go at that time.” Mom became teary-eyed.
“Let’s not make ourselves cry, okay? Take care. And I love you, Mom.”
Mom left to work, and I also had a plan to meet Camila, Bianca, and Blaine.
My last text to Forrest last night was still unseen until now. I trusted him not to do something stupid. He traveled to Africa this week, and I was worried that he might not be feeling well.
His issue with his real father was finally over. He visited his father’s grave again to offer his forgiveness. He and Myra had been able to meet without always looking over their shoulders. They’d been spending a lot of time together in London where the HQ of Kentworthry Capital was based, and then last week, they went to Paris. The word Paris had me paused. Forrest knew how I responded, and he told me not to be ridiculous.
Although I trusted him with all my heart, I couldn’t deny the fact that I was a little bit insecure with Meadow. Okay, I was insecure. She was a perfect match for Forrest, but on the other hand, Forrest chose me and he loved me. That was what made me sleep at night.
I sent another text. On my way to Bianca’s apartment, I called his number, but it went directly to his voicemail. I started to worry because this never happened before.
Before I could knock, the door swung open, revealing Bianca and Kelly on her feet. “Meg, come in.”
“Thanks.” I kissed her cheek and pulled up Kelly. “Aren’t you too cute? Missed your godfather already?” I kissed her chubby cheek, and she giggled.
“You’re late,” Camila said. Her baby bump was getting more evident every day, and now that she was wearing a navy blue dress.
“Fashionably, yes. For only twenty minutes.” I rolled my eyes.
“They had steamy video sex before she came over.” Blaine wrinkled her nose at me.
“So you never did that when Xandry was on a business trip, or when you were still friends?”
“No.” Her answer was a little bit of a defensive tone.
“Oh, come on. No need to feel shy. You married that guy anyway.”
Her cheeks turned red.
“Oh, my god!” I laughed out loud. Kelly still in my arms joined me.
“No, we hadn’t had video sex,” Blaine said defensively.
“Phone sex then?”
“He initiated, but I told him I wouldn’t do that.”
I rolled my eyes, joining them on the couch. “You’re no fun.”
She shrugged. “I find it awkward.”
“Awkward? Why would it be?”
“I don’t know. I want to touch Xandry, feel him than watching him do it over the screen.”
“You’re right, but I had phone sex with Pyke,” Camila said.
Bianca laughed out loud. “I did too.”
We burst out laughing. “Look at her, our man-hater who wishes men die in priapism. It turns out she’s dirtier and kinkier than me.”
“So, how about you?” Camila raised a brow at me.
“We’re good, and I missed him.”
Their eyes focused on me with pure awe.
“You really are leaving us, aren’t you?” Blaine asked, sadder.
“You’re all have been my anchor for years, and I couldn’t ask for more. I love you guys, but you also told me to follow my heart. I love Forrest. He’d been far from his mother and his life, and I can’t let him do that because of me. Mom is okay with this arrangement.”
Camila squeezed my hand. “I’m happy for you. I never thought you would fall for Forrest.”
“Why not? Is that a bad thing?”
“Of course not.” She rolled her eyes. “I love that man. He is thoughtful and loving. I know you will be in good hands. I couldn’t wish any man for you, Meg. He loves and cares about you so much. I could see it in his eyes since you two started sleeping behind our backs.”
“What? We didn’t—” My eyes widened as I stared at them one by one.
They’d known it all along. Of course. I could feel my face burned that they knew we were sleeping together before I ran to Camila that night. I’d never been ashamed of my sexual exploration, but they’d known Forrest, and he was one of our friends.
“No need to feel embarrassed. He’s a catch. But do you think we didn’t know how you two eye-fucked each other?”
“Language,” I chided Bianca. “When I first saw him that night at Night stalker, his eyes literally lit up.”
“When was that?” Camila asked Bianca.
“When you and Pyke first met. Remember how you hit him?”
“Wow! That was two years ago,” Camila said in surprise, then looked at me. “Why just now?”
“I don’t know. I think good things come to those who wait,” I said proudly.
Blaine laughed. “I know right?”
I sighed, sinking myself into the couch. “But he’s been ignoring me since last night.”
Camila’s brows furrowed. “What do you mean?”
“He’s not replying to my message. It’s not typical of him. I can’t just call Alan or his mother and ask them where the hell is Forrest, why is her son suddenly ignores me, can I?”
“And I can’t believe the owner of the gym and tattoo shop where Kyland worked before is actually Forrest’s butler,” Bianca replied. “But don’t worry, it’s less than a day.”
“Then what? We’ll inform the British cops from the States that Forrest is missing? Inform his security detail? I’m sure they will inform you if he’s kidnapped by his dead father.” Blaine chuckled.
“That’s not even funny.” I scowled at her.
“You are not helping,” Bianca chided her sister. “He must be busy. He’ll call you. Just have patience. Remember what you just said good things come to those who wait.”
“I’m an impatient person.”
“Jeez, Meg. You just missed little Forrest. Bring her a martini, B,” Camila ordered.
Bianca stood up. “He’s head over heels with you. Don’t tell me you’re thinking about their Paris trip that he and that bitch get back together?”
“I thought of that,” I admitted.
“I thought you love and trust that hot lord?” Camila pointed out.
“Of course, I do.” I rolled my eyes. “And he’s not a lord.”
“To us, he is. That must be them.” Camila stood up when the door swung open.
“Ugh!” I shut my eyes closed. I didn’t have to look at the door since my man would be impossible to be around. And they would be lip-locking with their husbands at this very moment.
I missed him so much. I would be flying the same day to England once I got my job. I guarantee that.
“God, I can’t do this.”
A kissed on my forehead by soft and firm lips had me froze in my seat. The familiar smell reached my nostrils. The tingles quickly spread all over my skin.
Oh, my god.
