FORREST
“JESUS! YOU don’t know how to hold back, do you? And you’ve been a little too hard on yourself lately. Never. Ever.” I heaved an exhausted sigh. “Never a moment I think of you like that, Megan. You are one of those women I respect most. Believe it or not, but that’s the truth. Your choice of not investing in a relationship doesn’t make you a…” I pursed my lips. Saying the word whore did a tiny stab in my chest. “You can’t be judged by your views, your opinion on sex. People make their own choices by the way how they see it right.”
“Perhaps you wanna consider psychology?” she asked with sarcasm.
“There’s nothing wrong to indulge with your wants, your desires, and your needs. You’re not a sex addict, and neither accepts money for sex. You’re just a grown-up woman who knows what she wants. I just hope you’re not using it to escape from reality. Sex can’t be your band-aid, Megan.”
“Wow. You’re one to talk.” I would say sarcasm was an ugly wit, but it was Megan, and I’d known her to be sarcastic when she wanted to be.
“I am not using sex to forget my problem.”
“Don’t tell me you’re running away from it instead.”
A few minutes passed, I kept my words to myself.
“I told you I am starving, but I didn’t mean you have to feed me. You can stop right here.” She pointed to the nearest parking area as we passed by. She groaned when I didn’t bother stopping the car. “You don’t make any sense. One time you’re nice, then in a second you’re mean,” she added.
“If I can just have a moment of silence to think, I would be grateful.”
“So, where are we going exactly?”
“To a place called shut up.”
I didn’t know why I had to shut her up when all I wanted was to hear her voice and her laugh.
She remained silent throughout the ride. And I was thankful, but when her head started to fall against the window, and her breathing turned even, it had me worried.
A few moments later, she was already snoring. Cute. I couldn’t see her a woman who snored. And fuck me! Megan just dozed off in my fucking car. She must have been so exhausted from what happened earlier. I knew the feeling because I had been mentally and physically drained just like her.
I nodded at Morgan, the security guard, and narrowed my eyes at him when he noticed my passenger seat was not empty.
“Good afternoon, Mr. Wood.” He tipped his head.
I slowed the car and pointed at the elevator. He ran toward there and pressed my floor number. I groaned in annoyance once I parked the car to idle, but when I looked down at sleeping Megan, I felt a warm feeling inside my heart and the hardening of my stomach at the same time.
What am I doing? Why did I feel I was risking something for her? Did she worth it, though? Of course, she did. The thing was, I didn’t even know anything about her, yet, the first thing that came into my mind when she called was to rescue her, I even wanted her to share her burden with me, and not only that, I brought her to my place where no one ever knew except to the two people I ever trusted.
Morgan was already opening my door before I could help myself. “Can I help you, Mr. Wood?”
“Call my usual, and make it two.” I rounded to the passenger side.
“Anything else?”
“That’s all.”
“Right away, sir.”
When Morgan left us, I took Megan from her seat, still sleeping.
“You sleep like a dead.” I couldn’t help but look down at the woman in my arms once we were inside the elevator. She looked like an angel—so innocent, but a goddess of temptation when she was awake. Her lips slightly parted, then she scrunched her nose as if ticklish. My urge to brush a few strands of her falling hair scattered on her face was taking every ounce of self-control I had left, but the urge of leaning down to capture and taste those damn sinful lips had my blood sizzling with lust.
I knew this was a bad idea, but there was no way I was turning back. After punching my security code and my fingerprint, my door unlocked. Now, I thought of how would I explain to her when she woke up.
I climbed up to the second floor of my room. I wasn’t clearly thinking straight. My brain was swimming with lust and confusion, but my heart was telling me different things, and it was pissing me off. I completely lost focus. For the first time in years, I wasn’t analyzing my action.
I placed her down my bed. Megan shifted after I tucked her carefully. There was a little voice in my head that told me to leave. I was already brushing her hair away from her face, tracing her cheek with the back of my finger. It didn’t end there. For the second time, I planted a kiss on her forehead before I completely walked out of my room.
What did she do to me? I was aware that I wasn’t myself, but what was bothering me more was that I wasn’t bothered at all anymore.
Bill’s face flashed on the screen. “Good evening there!”
“Bill, cut the pleasantries. Get to the updates you have for me.” I leaned against the desk and crossed my arms over my chest as I watched Bill explain the updates on his presentation.
I rubbed my aching temples. “Is that all? Where’s the latest update there? Or at least the new idea we had days ago.”
“I haven’t got through it. I am reluctant about—”
“I thought it was possible. What changed? I don’t have time, and I told you I wanted updates. The Bill.” I knew I was harsh on him, but he knew me that I didn’t joke when it came to this project. Besides, he would get all the credit once it would be successful.
“My apologies. Okay. It’s almost ready, but I need more time.”
I looked at the time and realized maybe Megan was already awake. “How long?”
“We started it already. I need a month or six weeks top.”
“You got it, but make sure you won’t disappoint me.” I knew he wouldn’t. To be honest, I was impressed with how fast he could make it through the deadline I set for the updates.
He clasped his hands together in delight. “I won’t. I promise.”
