The sisters walk off. … An agitated Gamma Stephen furrows his eyebrows; as he bellyaches…
“I don’t get it; Mom … why are you and Elaina always defending and standing up for those two?”
Georgina sarcastically replies, “Isn’t it obvious … if we didn’t; who would, then … you?”
The Gamma resignedly shakes his head…
“Whatever; Mom. … It doesn’t matter; because, this isn’t going to be a problem for much longer. Once we send Pomona off to the Stratus Pack; she won’t be around anymore to keep dragging Bellona down to her sad, pathetic level … and, maybe then Bellona will come to back to her senses, and start acting like the elite DSD member she was destined to be.”
Georgina huffs. “So; you still intend on making Pomona go through with this arranged marriage … even though I keep telling you that you shouldn’t send her away. That she needs to stay in this pack.”
“Of course … that was the plan from the very beginning of the proposed alliance negotiations; and, nothing’s changed.”
“You’re making a huge mistake by doing this; you know that, right?”
“I don’t understand; Georgina…” the Alpha interjects, “why do you keep on insisting that we call off the marriage arrangement? Do you really want us to pass up on our chance to form an alliance with the Stratus Pack?”
“Gordon; you’ve all been mistaking what it is I’m insisting on. I’m not saying you need to call off the marriage arrangement … all I want is for you to find another bride.”
Georgina looks to Gamma Stephen; and proposes…
“How about Raina or Rhiana? … Bellona told me that they recently had sexual relations with Alpha Casper; so, he must have an interest in them … right? Besides; those two were always looking to nab themselves a rich and powerful husband, anyway … we could have one of them take Pomona’s place.”
The Gamma rolls his eyes; and, huffs. “As if I’d agree to that.”
“Look, Stephen; I know you’re dying to get rid of Pomona … though; for the life of me, I can’t figure out why … but, I’m telling you; Pomona needs to be kept here. So, then; why not just have either Raina or Rhiana marry him … I’m sure none of them would object to this arrangement.”
Gamma Stephen adamantly rejects his mother’s proposal…
“No way! Absolutely not! Over my dead body! I won’t hear of it … I refuse to send my ‘baby girls’ away to a notorious womanizer like Casper Whitmore. It’s not going to happen … not while I’m alive.”
She exasperatedly huffs. “And, yet; you’ll willingly send Pomona off to him. Is that it?”
Now, Georgina’s the one to reproachfully stare at him, while disgustedly shaking her head…
“You know something; Stephen … it’s true; you’re my son, and I love you regardless … but; you really are a piece of work. … Maybe I shouldn’t have stopped Bellona, before; and, let her kick your ass.”
The Gamma nervously scoffs, “Right … like she could ever kick my ass.”
Georgina gently places her hand on the Gamma’s shoulder; and, shoots him a genteel smile…
“Son; it’s not that she ‘could ever’ kick your ass … it’s more that she ‘could always’ kick your ass.”
With her hand still resting on his shoulder, Georgina leans in between the Gamma and Alpha; and, whispers aloud…
“I know you’re afraid of her … that she scares you to death.” Georgina looks to the Alpha, and grins. “That goes for you, too … isn’t that right; Gordon?”
Georgina removes her hand from the Gamma’s shoulder, and starts to walk away; but then, suddenly stops … and, with her back to them…
“Remember what I said … allowing Pomona to leave the Rainier Pack will be the biggest mistake you ever made in your lives.”
She continues to walk away; leaving them behind, displaying a sort of hybrid confounded and crossed expression on their faces.
When Georgina returns to her office; she takes it upon herself to do her ‘grandmotherly duty’, and ‘admonishes’ Bellona for her supposed wrong doing … even though she feels otherwise; and, admires her granddaughter’s ferocious tenacity…
“Now, Bellona; you do realize you were out of line out there in the lobby, don’t you. It’s wrong of you to raise your hands to you father; and, to keep openly challenging him the way do. … And; that goes for Alpha Gordon, as well … you shouldn’t be so readily willing to defy him, either. …”
Unable to hold it back any longer; Georgina grins…
“Just because you could easily emasculate them; that doesn’t mean that you should. … Understand?”
Bellona smiles. “Understood.”
Georgina briefly scrutinizes over Bellona with discerning eyes … sort of like how Bellona has a habit of doing … and, grins again…
“Hmm … you say that you understand; but, that doesn’t mean that you’re going to stop it … does it?”
Bellona mischievously grins. “Probably not.”
“Yeah; I didn’t think so.”
Georgina resignedly shakes her head. … Bellona attempts to justify her aggressively brash behavior…
“Grandma; it isn’t like I do those things just for fun, or on a whim … I do it to protect Pomona. Like out in the lobby; he was getting ready to punch Pomona … I couldn’t just standby and let him hit her.”
“I know; you don’t have to explain … I know how protective you are over Pomona.”
Georgina tenderly takes hold of Bellona’s hands, and gently squeezes them…
“Bellona … I know that you may still be feeling a little guilty over Pomona’s accident, when she was three; thinking that it was somehow your fault that she wandered off, and fell into that ravine. But; listen to me, Bellona … it wasn’t your fault; not all.”
Bellona lowers her head, and averts her eyes to the floor; and, she sullenly murmurs…
