“Boss, you have not paid me yet. And you are calling me now to give me more work?”
Rosy leaned in closer to hear what William was saying which irritated Tessa even further.
“Don’t worry about the pay, Miss Johnson. I assure you, you won’t be short-changed.”
Snorts!
“Actually I kind of forgot about Target earlier. But I spotted her hiding close to your gate. I was wondering if everything was okay.”
“If you want to know how your official girlfriend is doing, why don’t you just call her?”
“Since you already know, why don’t you enlighten me.” William heaved a sigh knowing they were both fine.
“If you want me to work tomorrow, hang up and let me sleep. I’m annoyed as it is.”
William hung up without saying anything further. Knowing Tessa, since she was irritated, probably because of them, there was simply not a chance that she would help him.
The next morning William woke up in a good mood. The faint smile on his lips could not be hidden from anyone. He woke up at 5 am as he always did, and went out for a hike instead of his usual run. He collected the blueberries and black plums Rosy had enjoyed previously while they were climbing down from the Apex park.
Back at the breakfast table, his mother asked him curiously, “you seem to be in a good mood.”
“It’s a lovely morning. I had a nice run.”
“You sure it’s about the morning and not a girl.”
“Maybe”
“Liam, you have always been sensible, so we never pried on your private matters. But be careful who you befriend.
Not everyone who looks half decent maybe a good person. Especially be aware of people with criminal records.”
“Where is it coming from Mom? Why would you think I’m involved with anyone with criminal records?”
“I’m just reminding you to be careful.”
“Alright then, I’ll keep that in mind.”
“What are your plans for the day?”
“Just the usual.”
“Is your work finished yet? At your friend’s house?”
“It’s almost done. Just some tweaking and finishing left.”
“Alright. Be careful.”
“I will Mom. Don’t worry about me.” “When is Tristen coming home?”
“I don’t know. I’ll ask Rita if she comes here in the afternoon.”
“Never mind then. I’ll ask Ria.”
He went back to his room but could not focus on anything a certain petite girl kept fleeting through his mind.
At around 10 am unable to resist himself, he called Rosy despite knowing she would probably be asleep.
As expected he got grunts as the answer.
“Hello” came Rosy’s drowsy voice which he hoped he would be able to hear every morning.
“Hey, it’s me.”
“hmm”
“Are you awake yet?”
“Mister, if you don’t have anything to say, don’t ruin my sleep.”
“Lexi, it’s me. Can you please wake up now? I’ll take you out for brunch.”
“Gosh” “Lexi? Sorry, you got the wrong number.” She hung up.
Listening to the busy tone, William heaved an exasperated sigh. He then texted her the same as he made his way to Tessa’s place.
