We left very early the next morning to look for somewhere better and safer for us.
We got to a huge house where there was a notice board saying ‘ House help needed urgently’
Mum didn’t think twice to grab that golden opportunity, we both knew if mum gets the Job that means our accommodation is settled, maybe feeding too.
We knocked on the gate, the security man came out to answer us, he told us to wait so he could tell his boss what we came for.
We waited outside, the day was bright, it was a Saturday afternoon. The sun was harsh, piercing through our skin, we were tired, hungry and thirsty but the hope of mum getting that job gave us strength to keep standing.
Minutes later the security man opened the gate and allowed us in.
My jaw dropped, mouth wide opened when I saw the house, it was huge and very beautiful, the garden was big!
The artistic drawings, pool, everything scream money!
Different latest models of cars were parked at the garage, the design of the mansion alone kept us in awe, we kept looking around the houde
Everywhere was sparkling and well furnished, it shows how wealthy and influential the owner was.
when we entered the room, it was breathtaking, from the furniture to the home appliances they were out of this world.
Luckily for us we met the owner of the house after mum explained our predicament, and how we sincerely need the job he wasted not time to offer mum the job.
Our joy knew no bound, we were so happy, the man was generous to mum and he also told us to stay in one vacant room in the compound and promised to take care of my school bills.
We were speechless, finally! Mr Raphael Ideh was our answered prayer.
Mum had to do everything from laundry to cleaning the house, cooking….. Which we did not mind atall.
I noticed Mrs Raphael wasn’t happy with her husband generosity, I could see the long face she was giving to it, the way she rolled her eyes, and I could see through the fake smiles, but I ignored it because of how overjoyed we were.
Mr Raphael took it upon himself to show us everywhere in his gigantic mansion, and also show us where we will be staying.
The room he gave us was small, but better and more comfortable than that shade we slept last night, with a bed that can accommodate two people, Chair and table well furnished, what more can we ask for?
We quickly arranged our luggages, and mum went out to start her new job as a maid, leaving me alone in the room.
I was grateful to God and Mr Raphael too.
I got excited about the new school I will attend, questions kept popping in my head.
‘ when will I start this new school?”
“How will I cope with the new school and the new environment?”
I wish dad was still alive with us. Tears pooled my eyes, I quickly brushed it off.
Hours later Mum came in with a mouth watering plate of rice and cold water, my belly rumbled at the sight of the food, I hurriedly collected it from her, and dug in immediately, without even saying thank you, I looked up to her after realizing I never appreciated her for bringing the best meal I have eaten for weeks.
