PETER’S P. O. V.
I am glad to hear Victor has made it in the clear. I don’t think I could have looked Olivia in the eyes again if he didn’t.
Now that I know he is going to make it, I have to focus on my duties. I headed over to the college to check on the she-wolves that were brought back. There are still guards on them so we can check them out before releasing them back to their families. Some of them are from packs a long way from here. How the Rogue leader managed that we don’t even know. We are thinking black market slave trading. Some were even born in the out lands we have to vet them all. Plus check over their health and mental well-being. Being a prisoner can not be good for the psyche.
When I walk in all I see is a sea of women. Then all of the sudden the most delicious smell to ever present itself to me. It was like the smell right after the rain mixed with vanilla. I followed it to find a she-wolf curled in the corner. She seemed to be facing the wall as a way to cope with where she was. Then I saw her make a sniffing motion. She turned to me and I saw the most amazing pair of gray eyes. “Mate.” escaped my lips the same time I heard it ring from hers.
This feeling was more powerful than any pull I had from Olivia or any other wolf for that matter. She is mine. The mate bond with Olivia was gone.
I reached my hand out to her, lightly taking hers. “What is your name?”
“Heidi. What’s yours?” She lightly tucked her blonde hair behind her ears.
“Peter. How did you get here?”
“I was taken from my pack two weeks ago. I was put in a truck and shipped here. I was put in a cage and forced to pick a mate from the rogues. I was supposed to pick one this morning. Some were not as lucky to avoid it.”
“You are safe now. I promise you that you will never be forced to do anything you don’t want again.”
Her smile seemed to light up the room. “I feel better already. Will I be able to call my family and let them know I am alright? Where am I by the way?”
“Right now you are in the college that is used for the four ally packs of Northern Oregon. Where are you from?”
“Montana. I guess I was in the truck for a while.” She stands to be next to me. “What pack do you belong to?”
“Black Forest Pack. What about you?”
“Silver River Pack. When can I call my family? They must be worried sick about me.”
“I have a phone, let’s call them now.”
“You would do that for me? Are you really my true mate? I feel like I have been through so much that there is no way I can truly believe that this is real.”
“I can’t believe it either. Believe it or not you are my third mate. I have felt stronger for you than any other mate. I think I just sounded like a serial killer. It isn’t like that. I swear.” I start babbling. I sound like a crazy person. Goddess, help me.
“I don’t really know you so I can’t tell you if that is true or not. I understand shit happens though. I mean I am here.” She shrugged like it was no big deal. I think she can smell my nervousness.
“I am going to let you call your family before you think I am going to kidnap you.” I pull out my phone and hand it to her, before I can make an even bigger ass of myself. Goddess what is wrong with me? She was just kidnapped and here I am joking about it.
“I don’t think you’re crazy. I do think you are really nervous.” Before she goes to dial she looks at the phone. “Um, I kind of need you to unlock it.” She gives me a little smart aleck smile.
“Oh, goddess, what is wrong with me? Sorry.” I take the phone back and unlock it before I hand it over. “I will give you some privacy.”
I step away and talk to the guard. I found out that quite a few women were taken. The black market is clearly expanding. This is something that is going to have to be brought to the Elders. I notice that Heidi is done with the phone. I head back over.
“Everything alright?” I ask as I stand next to her.
“Yeah, they were glad to hear from me. Even happier that I am safe and found my mate. Although he is a bit shy and awkward, they would still like to meet him.” She smiles at me.
“Believe it or not I am not usually like this. I am usually pretty suave. I think you make me this way. Tongue tied and blubbering like an idiot.”
“That is kind of cute. So, I think it would be best if we get to know each other a little bit before we take this mate thing any further. I mean I live miles away. If I am going to move here permanently then I need to make sure that I am not moving in with a serial killer. Your words not mine.” She has the same sense of humor that I do. I smile at that.
I laugh. “You have a good sense of humor. I am going to clarify that mate thing. My first mate rejected me for an Alpha and my second mate I was supposed to share with two other males. Needless to say, neither was ideal.”
“That explains it. Are they both around? Is that something I am going to have to deal with?” She has a big look of concern on her face.
“The first one is far away. No concern for her. The second still has two other mates. I don’t think that is going to be an issue. We never got to marking or anything even close to that. So I don’t think there will be any issues. Right now she is in the hospital with one of her mates.”
“Is she alright?” She looks concerned, goddess that is fucking sweet. I love her even more now.
“No, I mean yeah. She is fine. One of her mates got hurt last night in the battle. He almost died. He is kind of my friend so I have been keeping tabs. He is doing great though.”
“Well, that’s good. Um, so tell me about yourself. I mean it would be helpful to know you. I can go first if you want.”
“That would probably be best, I think I might calm a little if you talk first.”
“Alright. I come from Silver River Pack. My father is the Gamma in charge of training all the troops. Go figure the one time I am not paying attention is the time I get kidnapped. My mother died when my little sister was born, she died in childbirth. My little sister became my life. I was like a second mother to her. I always made sure that she knew her real mother though. It was just me and her most of the time, with dad working all the time. I am glad to hear that she was safe while I was gone.”
“Well, I am the Alpha of Black Forest Pack and Blood Moon Pack. I train as much as I can and I would do anything to make you feel safe here.” I rest my hand on her arm. I want to do so much more but I am scared to scare her away.
“Alpha?”
“Um, yeah.”
“Wow, I landed an Alpha, wait til my sister hears about this.” She gets a little cocky smile. I can tell she is joking, just like me.
I laugh and she joins me, it feels amazing and the sound is enough to send my stomach flipping.
