PETER’S P. O. V.
After I kissed Olivia goodbye I headed back home. I knew we were setting up for training in the afternoon. But I also had to put together a list of the wolves that I needed on the rescue mission. I need good wolves out there and I don’t want to be left weak on the front lines.
I would rather have Benjamin with Olivia but I know that she insisted that he be with me. She wants us all on the front line. I can’t imagine how she feels right now, with all of us having so much to do, it would seem that there is no chance to even make the bond stronger. Sometimes I feel like I am losing her. I felt that less tonight but I still feel like maybe Victor has years on me.
Anyway, I need to focus. I know we are all hoping that tomorrow goes well and we will still have time to train, but I have a feeling that the rogues are not going to want it that way. They want to take us by surprise. If they do show up with all of their forces they are going to be ready to fight. I want to be ready too. I want to be able to bring us all back to Olivia. That girl has lost so much she can’t lose anymore. The rogues have been relentless in everything that they have done so far, they can’t want to wait until we are prepared. They want to win.
I look over my list of wolves that are fully trained. I have a new list that Hugo sent me. I am not so sure about this second list, but with those wolves we are sitting good with troops. I will have them all in their furs except us Alphas that way they can’t see who is stand ins. Except Hugo, I am going to have him stand in for Benson. I don’t know what the rogues know about the shift in power. It may be to my advantage having more wolves under my power. I can lead more of them at one time. I know Victor and Shawn know what they are doing but we haven’t worked together enough to know how to.
I call up Victor and see what his count is for the distraction. I guess that is what we are calling it. “Hey, so I wanted to see what numbers you have for the distraction and how many you have for the rescue.”
“Alright so right now my trained troops count is one hundred and fifty. I have a few that I saw while working on the list that I want to add. They are ones that have been trained outside of my regular warriors. I trust who trained them, so I am confident that they will be good enough if something breaks out. As for the rescue I am putting fifteen warriors on that, not counting my trackers.”
“Ok, so that we are on the same page I am going to call Shawn and do a conference call. Hold on.” I take a moment to connect with Shawn. “Hey Shawn I got Victor on the line and we are talking strategy for tomorrow’s distraction and the rescue.”
“Alright, finally something I can answer correctly. I have right now one hundred and twenty-five warriors that I am sending for the distraction and ten warriors that I am sending for the rescue. I have a few more that I am going to look over tomorrow to see how they are and they may join the ones at the distraction.”
Victor lets Shawn know how much he has. “So that means that between me and you we have two hundred and seventy-five wolves for the front line and the rogues have four hundred, so what do you have Peter?”
“I have one hundred and fifty of my own warriors and then I have about seventy-five of Benson’s. I am not so sure on their training so I am hoping that they pull through. I will be going over all of those wolves tomorrow and possibly I can add to those numbers. As for the rescue I can send ten. I would like to send more, but I really don’t have a good feeling about the rogues. I have a feeling they have no intention of waiting until we are ready for war.”
“Unfortunately me too.” Shawn mirrored my doubts.
“So, Peter, I have a personal question for you. If this turns sour do you want me to link Olivia and tell her when it happens or do you want me to wait until it is done.”
“I think if I know Olivia well enough I would say that if you don’t link her she will kill us all for not letting her know what is going on.”
“Alright. I just want you to know I have known that girl my whole life. If she thinks we are in danger she may not stay at the college.”
“Well then link her and then down play the danger. Make it seem like we have it all under control. We don’t need to worry about her on the front lines.”
“I will do my best. I have my father watching her. I know he won’t let her go easily. He has already started calling her his daughter. I don’t think he is going to be too excited to have her risking her life.”
“Good Alpha Craig is stronger than her, if anything he can hold her down.”
We both laugh at that. Then Shawn surprises us. “Wait, are you two talking about the same girl? I mean you guys are both talking about her like she is your mate.”
I let Victor answer that one. “Unfortunately it is true. The Elders say that it is a common problem right now. It has happened in the past when there were too few females and now it is happening again. So Peter, Benjamin and I have the same mate.”
“You guys aren’t making her choose one.”
I’ll take this one. “What good would that do? It would make the other two weak. You know what they say about a rejected wolf. They are half of what they should be. A wolf needs their mate to be strong. And all of us are on our second chance mates for one reason or another. We can’t afford to lose our mate again.”
“Wow, I couldn’t imagine having to share Bianca. Although that might make it less time that I am in trouble.”
Victor laughs, “Not with Olivia she remembers everything and wants to know everything. She is too feisty for her own good. Did you work out that issue with her earlier?”
“Yeah, it turns out she wasn’t mad really. She is with pup. I am happy but at the same time I think she is putting me in the dog house for the whole pregnancy. She is just way too moody. Don’t tell her I said that.” Shawn almost sounds scared.
“Congrats man.” Victor says, then I repeat.
“How are you guys going to deal with the pup situation? I mean are you going to be able to tell whose pup it is?”
I decided to answer this one to see what Victor says. I can find out if he was the first or not. “Olivia wants us to use protection for now so that way she knows exactly which one of us gets her pregnant.”
“Smart thinking.”
Victor is really quiet. I have a feeling I know why. “Didn’t Olivia tell you that to Victor?”
“Actually she told me I will be the first one to give her a pup.” He sounds almost ashamed to be saying it. I know it is because he doesn’t want to cause a problem with us and I have a feeling that he wants to brag too.
“She told me that one of you two was first, she just didn’t tell me which one.”
“I guess she figured that we would work it out on our own.” Victor would like to change the subject I can tell. I am angry that I lost being first to him, but I have to accept her choice.
“Wow, OK tension. I am going to get off the line. I will see you guys tomorrow at the training.” Then there is a click and it is just me and Victor.
“I am sorry, I know you wanted to be first, but it just kind of happened.” He does sound sorry. I am trying to pull it together.
“It’s alright. I know you guys have more history. I was busy too. I wasn’t around as much as you two were.” I start to laugh, “Honestly I think I am surprised that it wasn’t Benjamin.”
“Yeah, he was around, but I think he was too busy with everything going on that he didn’t get that far. Plus I think he didn’t believe her when she said that she was feeling better. I think he didn’t want to hurt her.” Victor was trying to make him sound more like a gentleman.
“Yeah, Benjamin is a bit of a softy. I can tell you had no qualms about waiting.”
“Like I said it just kind of happened. She said something about not having a beautiful body and I kind of wanted to prove her wrong.”
“Yeah, she has some issues with that. She doesn’t like that scar, she says it reminds her of Hector.”
“I know that it shouldn’t but I know Olivia she is going to keep thinking that for a while.” He sounds sad.
“I tried to dispel it, but you’re right she still is a bit insecure about that. I told her that it should remind her of the day that she was set free from Hector. That it was the day that he was gone from her life for good. She seemed to like that. I just know that what she went through is not going to be easy to get through.”
“She has us, we will make it better.” Victor tried to be more positive. “Anyway, I have to go. I have to work on some things for tomorrow. Do you have what you need?”
“Yeah, I know that we have more numbers than the rogues so we have an advantage. I really hope that it is enough and we aren’t going to lose too many wolves in the process.”
“I really hope so too. We don’t know how well trained these rogues are. But if history is any indicator then they can’t be too trained. I mean they may be rallied together, but they are still rogues. Rogues don’t like rules, that is why they are rogues.”
“Let’s hope that history is on our side tomorrow.”
With that final thought we get off the line. I can’t help but wonder what kind of a wolf had rallied the rogues together. That is not an easy task, it had to take some major convincing. This person had to have a silver tongue.
