OLIVIA’S P. O. V.
I pretend to be asleep while Victor and Aaron talk. I remember Aaron from when we were little playing. I also remember when Victor didn’t seem so mad about losing to me anymore. I did feel chased. Victor was my dream back then. I would have given anything to be with him. Now to have him and be so confused about it makes me crazy. With this mate thing I am going nuts. There has to be something else that can happen. I know I keep going around in this vicious circle, I am just so confused. If it was just one of them I would have no problem with any of them, even with the past that I have had with Victor. Having it this way is just too complicated.
I loved hearing how much Victor loved me. I hate his father now, but there isn’t anything I can do about it now.
I just need to have this war over so we can all think about this together and try to work something out. Right now I just need to focus on training. I guess I can train with the mediocre trainees. I have some skill but nothing too strong. I can defend myself as long as I am not sucker punched. Fucking Hector, hit me so fucking hard and makes me want to scream that I wasn’t able to fight back right. I should have been able to get away from him and then I wouldn’t be in this hospital bed.
I feel so weak. I feel like a failure. How can these men want to fight over me? I can not see how they find this logical. I am not Luna material. I am not even Beta material. If I can’t defend myself against a piece of shit like Hector. I am going to make myself stronger. I am going to fight back no matter what it takes. There is no way that I am losing another fight.
PETER’S POV
It is now time for the Alpha meeting. Again we left Benjamin with Olivia. Aaron decided to stay just in case the meeting ran long. I guess their trackers were supposed to meet Victor there. I wonder what they are going to be tracking? Anyway I have all of my papers together, Benjamin was the one that divided the wolves into groups. I just am the one to present it.
Victor has his lists too. Benson doesn’t seem to have anything in hand and Shawn has some papers but I don’t think that is all his wolves. I guess I better get this started because if I don’t we are going to be here all night.
“Alright we are going to need to combine our lists so that we can divide the wolves into the trainers that we have.”
Benson speaks first. “I didn’t feel the need to have a list. I know my wolves.”
“Well then you wouldn’t mind making a list for the rest of us. I think Victor should make the list because he seems to know the breakdown of the wolves. I have a question for you Benson, since you know your wolves so well. Why is one of your wolves missing and you have no word for her sister as to where she has gone to?”
“What are you talking about? I don’t have any wolves missing. Unless of course your wolves are trying to start trouble.”
“So then you can have Amber Cross contact her sister no problem. She has a mate, Clark. I guess you don’t mind if I ask them when they come to training.”
“Amber Cross was found dead. Her sister is mistaken. She is not missing.” He sneers at me.
“How was she killed? I told her sister I would give her the news.”
“We don’t know.”
“How could you not know? I mean you have a body right?” I lean forward to show him that I am not going to let this drop.
“We were unable to locate the body.”
“Then how do you know that she is dead?”
“There was enough blood at her house to warrant the thought.”
“So you never even looked for her.” I have plain lost my patience with this worthless Alpha.
“She was dead. No question.”
“Why take her dead body?”
“I don’t know how rogues work. I just know that she is dead. No need to think about it any further.”
“How many of your females have died this year in the same manner?”
“I guess ten. I am not sure of the exact number.” Benson shrugs like it isn’t a big deal. I guess he really wouldn’t care unless it was his Luna that was taken. I am also guessing that she wasn’t on the list of the trainees. Meaning he keeps her locked up so that she doesn’t wind up missing too. Benson really needs to be replaced. I will have to assign trackers to see if they can find his wolves.
“Shawn, do you have any missing females?”
“Yes, we have a few, we have sent our trackers out but they said that the trail runs cold out in rogue territory.”
Victor speaks up. “I have three that have disappeared recently. I was going to send out my trackers into the rogue territory this evening.”
“Sounds like maybe we need to do double duty here.” I look at Benson. I try to show him that I am as irritated as possible. “So I will link my trackers and if you Shawn can link yours as well and have them meet with Victor at the hospital. We are going to dispatch them to look for any clues on the missing females as well as the specifics of the rogues. This is going to be the first step in the war. We need information and these wolves are going to get it.”
Benson sneers. “I think it is a waste of time to try to find the females. I mean all mine were Omegas, not even worth the time spent.”
“Well, Benson, since you have no trackers, I don’t really care about your opinion on this matter. We are all going to look for the missing she-wolves and you are going to shut your mouth and deal.”
“You should show me some respect. I am an Alpha.” The look of indication was clear on his face.
“Guess what? So am I. I don’t care about how you think you’re better than me. I think you are the worst Alpha at this table. It is your job to protect your pack. All of your pack that includes the Omegas. I don’t understand how you can think that they are not important enough to find. You are a piece of shit. After this war I am calling it quits with you. I will contact the Elders and see if you can be replaced. Your pack deserves better.”
“If you say one more word to me then my pack is out.”
“Fine then I will talk to the Elders tonight. You will leave your pack defenseless because of your pride. You really are a piece of shit.”
“Peter, you need to watch your mouth.”
“I bet if I challenged you I would win. I have no idea how you became Alpha except that your father was one. Born into the job and just thought you could do whatever you wanted. Did you even have any training?”
“Of course I had training. You are such an ass. I will back out of this deal now if you don’t shut up.” Again just words, he knows he’s screwed if he leaves the alliance.
“Good then I will give the Elders another reason for you to be replaced. I will gladly take it from you if they don’t step in. No need for the innocent wolves to suffer because you are an idiot. As a matter of fact I will be telling all of your wolves that if they wish to leave your territory and join mine I will be glad to take them. Especially the Omegas.”
“Is that a challenge?”
“Yeah, I will, give me a time and I will be there to kick your ass.”
“Fine, you ass. Meet me on my land at dawn and we will have the challenge. Be prepared to lose Peter. I have no intention of stepping down as Alpha any time soon.”
“We will see at Dawn.” I watched as Benson got up from the table and left. I had no intention of following him or stopping him. His ass needs to step down or be put down.
“You’re really going to do this.” Victor looks at me. I can’t tell what he’s thinking. The way he said it was more of a statement than a question.
Still I answered. “That wolf needs to be put in his place. As an Alpha you are supposed to take care of your pack. That is your number one job. Benson seems to think this is an option. He will be done for.”
“Do you want me or Benjamin there to watch your back?” Victor wasn’t objecting and he did have a point, I will have to have someone with me to watch my back. Someone who doesn’t care about his pack has no problem fighting dirty.
“If I could have you both I would. I will take you and Benjamin can stay with the patient. I will also take some of my warriors in case he wants this to be a full on battle. Hopefully he has some honor and will leave it as an Alpha challenge.”
“You know Benson isn’t going to let it go like that. I am sure as of right now he is gathering all of his loyalists to be with him during the challenge in case things go wrong.”
Shawn looked at us both. “I will be there as well. I agree that Benson is a terrible Alpha and we need someone who is going to run the pack right to get through this war. For the benefit of my own wolves I want to see that pack lead right. If the rogues take it over then we are screwed as far as defenses.” Finally Shawn is talking sense.
“Good to know I can count on you. Let’s get down to these lists so that way we can get the trackers going on their part. Plus I will need to alert the Elders of the challenge. Like they didn’t already know but you know duty.”
I look over at Shawn who passes his lists of wolves. “I had some trouble getting the skills of my wolves. Some of them were afraid to answer the question. I think they are doing training that I am not aware of and they were afraid I would take it as a challenge or something. I have some very independent wolves. I did list all of the wolves by name, age and rank.”
“I for one had to do mine over link so I don’t know how honest mine were.” Victor shrugs.
“I asked mine to their faces and I still think some lied. I had to pry the answer out of a few. We may have to adjust some wolves based on the skill that we see during training. We will just have to go with what we have. Victor, are you going to be able to do this by tomorrow or should we have Benjamin do it?”
“No, I think I got it. I mean right now I am not really sleeping anyway. You know with everything going on with the patient. I am getting a little here and there. It is better that I just keep busy.”
“I hear yeah. I have to be rested for this challenge tomorrow. Once it is done I will have to list his wolves as well and we will need to get them in the training as well. Lastly we need to talk to the warriors and see where the rogues are getting through the defenses the most. That may lead us more to where they are stationed. I have a hunch it is in Blood Moon Pack and that may only be because defenses are the easiest to get through there. I have no idea what is waiting in that territory.”
