PETER’S P. O. V.
I can feel that something is off. I have been feeling Benjamin’s feelings for a while now. At first I was glad, he seemed ecstatic. Then I realized it was probably Olivia that was making him feel that way. That depressed me a bit. Then I felt the anger and rage radiating off of the link. I thought maybe Olivia might be in danger. I wanted to run to her. Then the link came live. “Peter, we need to watch out for Hector, he is trying to lay claim to Olivia.”
This sent me into a full on rage. That fucking bastard. How dare he think he can take her from us. After he rejected her, he should be locked in a dungeon and beaten within an inch of his life. If comes into my territory looking for her then that is what will happen to him. I linked back, “We’ll take turns watching her.”
“I am bringing her to you for the next class.”
“I’ll meet you in the hall.”
I left my class, it was pretty much done anyway. The professor doesn’t even look at me as I leave.
I can see Benjamin and Olivia walking down the hall hand in hand. I feel a pang of jealousy. I wasn’t that serious about Olivia, but I did have feelings for her. I am really glad for Benjamin though. I know he was really crushed after his mate’s death. I don’t want him to think I have hard feelings. I run up to them and grab Olivia around the shoulders. “How is my favorite girl?” I felt her tense for a moment before she realized it was me.
“Oh, just a little shook up. Pissed. I want to kick him in the balls.”
“Do you want me to hold him down?” I jest.
“Maybe. Ask me again the next time he tries to claim I am his.” Olivia shakes her head. Other wolves are looking at us strangely. I guess we do look like some weird threesome. With Benjamin holding her hand and not letting go, and me with my arm around her.
Benjamin growls at the mention of that ass-wipe. I wish I was there and I would have rearranged his face. You can’t treat people like that. It is obvious he spread rumors about Olivia in order to keep other wolves from claiming her. He wanted to have his cake and eat it too. He probably thought if he waited long enough then he would be able to keep Olivia on the side. He wanted to crush her spirit. Who would want to crush her? She is amazing.
“Don’t worry babe, my man and I won’t let that ass-wipe touch you again.” I squeeze her shoulder.
“I appreciate your friendship.” Olivia smiled at me.
“Oh, man, I have been friend-zoned. You really know how to crush a guy you know.”
Benjamin smirks at me. I guess the best man won. I ain’t giving up that easily though. I mean I have to make sure that Benjamin really wants her. “So you coming over to my house later?”
“Yeah, I said I was. I just have to go back to my house and grab a few things. How long do you think it will take for you to find a place for me in your pack?”
“I think I can have one picked out tomorrow. For tonight you can stay at my place. Benjamin and I will take you to pack a bag. I just have to follow protocol and ask Victor.”
“What if he says no?”
“Then I will go over his head and ask his daddy.” I smile at that thought.
“Alright.” I can feel Olivia relax. She knows that Hector has Victor believing everything. That means that Victor will not be letting Olivia go without a bit of a battle. I am prepared for that battle.
“Alright Benny, time to pass the torch. We’ll be seeing you later.”
“You know I hate it when you call me that.”
“I know, but you know how I love to pick at you. You’re my brother, I have to give you shit as much as I can. It is my job.”
“Wait, I just realized you said I would stay at your place. That is not going to happen.” Olivia scowls at me.
“Don’t worry I will sleep over at Benjamin’s. I’ll make sure he doesn’t try to sneak over and accost you in the middle of the night.”
“Peter, you are the one most likely to do the accosting. I am alright staying alone in your house but I feel like I would be putting you out. Isn’t there a hotel or something?” Olivia shrugs.
“You know packs don’t do that. There is no need for a hotel. You are fine. You are part of our pack or will be once you take the oath and then you will be my responsibility.”
Benjamin pulls Olivia out of my arms and gives her a kiss on the head. Then looks at her face. “I will be here when you get out of class. Don’t go anywhere without Peter.” She just nods at him.
He looks at me and we share a look then over the link, “you better take care of her.”
“You know I wouldn’t let her get hurt.”
“Just remember Hector likes to sneak up on your blind side.”
“I’ll watch my back.”
Then Benjamin is gone. I put my arm back over Olivia. “Time for class babe.”
“Yeah, so I hear that you and Benjamin are in a competition.”
“Oh, yeah, and what might this competition be?”
“Me.” She does not beat around the bush, does she?
“Oh, then you heard right. Although I think I am losing.”
“I haven’t decided on anything yet. I hardly know either of you. So, why aren’t you waiting for your mate?”
“My mate rejected me too. She said I took too long to find her so she wanted to mate with an Alpha from another pack. Thankfully the pack is far enough away that I don’t have to worry about running into her regularly. I would hate to see my mate all the time.”
“Yeah, it sucks. Especially when it is an asshole.”
“Yeah, I can kick his ass for you.”
She laughs. I love that sound. No matter what happens I want her to keep making that sound. “You have to get in line, it starts behind me.”
“Darn, I wanted first dibs. Too bad, I guess, I can let you go first.”
“Then you and Benjamin will have to duke it out for second.”
We walk into Anatomy and take our seats. The professor is in the back of the room having a quiet discussion with another professor. I am tempted to try to listen in but I decide that it is none of my business. When Olivia takes her seat I can however hear a she-wolf behind me make a comment to her partner.
“Look at that slut, just throwing herself at the future Alpha. Has she no shame. I heard that she went through all of the wolves in her pack so now she is moving on to the next pack.”
At this I turn to her. “You dumb ass bitch. How dare you say something about someone when you have never even spoken to them. You have no idea what is going on. I would take this girl over your bitch ass any day.”
I turn back to Olivia. I can tell she is tense. “Hey, it’s alright. I put that bitch in her place.”
“It’s not that. It is just a sign that this is never going to stop. Hector is going to make sure that they never stop talking about me.”
“My pack will never talk about you like that. I will make sure of it.”
“I don’t want just some Alpha order to keep people from talking shit about me. I just want it to stop. Why can’t Hector just leave me alone?” She almost sounds desperate.
I pull her chair to me and put my arm around her. “Don’t worry about it. It will get better.”
She pulled away from me. “Maybe it would just be best if we keep some bubble space between us. Maybe that could help.”
I pulled her close again. “No it won’t. I heard the rumors when you were alone with no friends. If I want to touch my friend then I don’t care what the hell people have to say about it.”
“Yeah, until your father hears about it.” She actually scoffed at me.
I laugh, “My father trusts my judgement. Plus you need to learn that our pack isn’t like the other packs. We don’t put much stock in rumors.”
Before she can respond the professor chimes it. “OK, class. Now let’s go over chapter one, that I am sure you all read last night per my instructions.”
The rest of class was a breeze, thanks to the help of Olivia last night I was actually able to answer some questions. We were assigned another chapter and dismissed.
We waited outside the classroom for Benjamin. He came running as soon as the bell rang.
“No need to rush man, I got her.”
“I know.” He looked right at her. There was no mistaking that look. He loves her.
I can honestly say that I like her, but he is way far gone. I don’t think I can stand in the way of them two. I want to give it one more try tonight just to be sure, I haven’t felt this strongly about someone in a while. I don’t want to just give up.
“Alright. I am going to call Alpha ass and get clearance to escort Olivia to her old house to pick up some things.” Being an Alpha myself I have all the information on the other pack’s higher ranking wolves. Most of us are prepared to take over within the next year. That means that we are running things with our Fathers over our shoulders, until it is official on our twentieth birthdays. I dial Victor’s number. Once he picks up, “Hey, Victor so as you are well aware there was a problem this morning with two of your wolves, one of which is Olivia who is going to be transferring to our pack. That being said she doesn’t exactly feel comfortable going into your territory without an escort. She needs to collect some things from her dwelling. So I am formally requesting permission to enter your territory for the means of escorting her.”
Victor is quiet on the other end. I can’t tell if he is linking with someone or if he is just thinking about it. “Request denied. I will escort her myself. I have already discussed this with my father so don’t bother him with this. He thinks it is completely acceptable that I escort her. He is well aware of who she is. I will meet you on the university side of the territory in an hour.” Then he hangs up.
Ignoring his request not to bother his father I call him next. I explained the situation to him. I think he is on my side until he growls. “My son told you not to bother me with this. We have already discussed this. My son is not going to bring harm to the girl. He understands the consequences if he does. An Omega is not worth it. You are not welcome on my land right now. I do not want fights on my territory.” Then he hangs up on me.
I sigh and then turn to Benjamin and Olivia. “So we are just going to buy you all new things. Let’s go shopping.”
Olivia grunts, “No escort?”
“Oh, no they are giving you one. Victor.”
She contemplates this for a minute. “OK, I’ll let Victor take me.” I think she just sprouted another head. That is the only thing that makes sense since we are living in some fucked up universe where it is OK for her to go with him.
Before I can say anything. “NO! Absolutely not. It is not going to happen.” Benjamin has already beat me to it.
“I agree. I am not just going to hand you over to that piece of shit and expect him to bring you back in one piece.”
“Look I have things there that I can’t replace. Like pictures of my family and the jewelry box that my mother gave me for my tenth birthday. I am not going to give those things up because I am a little scared. As much as I hate this idea, I know Victor, he will not hurt me.” Olivia is resigned with the idea, I can see there is no arguing with her.
“OK, I will agree to this on one condition. If you are not back with us within one hour, I am going in after you. I’ll make sure that good for nothing knows it.” I pull her towards the parking lot. Benjamin has reached over and interlocked his fingers with hers. So essentially I am dragging them both.
“I don’t like this Peter.” Benjamin links to me.
“I don’t either but Olivia needs her things. We have to have faith in Olivia now.” At that Benjamin shut up. I understand where he is coming from, he already lost a mate because he couldn’t reach her in time. He is not too fond of the idea of having her out of his sight for too long.
