Chapter 3 And yet another Ass to contend with

Book:Coveted Omega Published:2024-5-1

I get up and hobble to my next class, thankfully it is the last one of the day. Plus it is one of the ones that I wanted to take. Wolf anatomy.
As I head in, the professor is waiting at the door. “For this class there is assigned seating. Can I have your name?” Great more assigned seating. Plus this Professor is another Elder, her name is Elder Selena.
“Olivia Micheals.”
“OK you are at lab station 3. I have numbers on the tables to make it easy to find. Your lab partner isn’t here yet.” She motions for the class so that I can enter.
I walk in the class and quickly find station 3, the third on the right. I take the seat closest to the wall. That way I can at least avoid the lab partner hitting me on their way to their chair. I make another prayer to the goddess that it is at least someone that will treat me indifferently and not want to abuse me, just because I am an Omega. However when I see his face I know I am out of luck. The goddess is truly smiling today. I am the joke of the day.
Blockhead number two is now heading my way and none too happy about it. I look at my laptop on the counter and try to pretend that he isn’t there. I can feel his gaze bore into me as he sits next to me. We sit like this for about five minutes before the professor starts the class.
“Alright, so I hope you all know what class this is. As you can see I have assigned you to a specific lab, this is your lab partner. I would hope that you at least have gotten your lab partner’s name at this point. Are there any questions at this point?”
My lab partner raises his hand. “Yes, Peter is it?”
“Yes, are we able to change our lab stations?” He tries to sound pleasant to her but I can hear the hatred towards me in the question.
“Is there something wrong with the station?” She folds her arms over her chest and glares at him. She has no intention of letting him change seats.
“Just the company.” He mutters, but everyone clearly heard him. There were even a few chuckles.
“Well, mister future Alpha Peter, you are going to have to learn to deal. I have assigned all of you your lab stations for a reason. There is no change. Now, I believe that your environment helps to educate you. So what I have done to aid in your learning process is that you are all assigned your partner by your scores on your entrance tests. Those with the highest scores are paired with those with the lowest scores. Which means that the one person who scored the highest is now paired with the student who scored the lowest on their exams. I am not going to release the scores to you, I am just trying to give all of you a little extra edge. Any questions on that.”
The professor pauses for a moment to let that all sink in. Students are looking at each other questioning who is the smarter of the pair. After last class I don’t have to wonder. I have been paired with the kid who scored the lowest in our class. Of course he is looking at me like I was the one who scored the lowest. He sneers, actually sneers like I am some stupid bitch that he is stuck with.
“No questions, good. Now, I like to start the first day off with a little Q and A. So, I am going to be asking some questions to see where you all are. So first question: what is the point of this class when wolves heal so fast?” She looked around at us expecting the answer.
I was the only one to raise my hand. “Yes, Olivia. What do you think the answer is?”
“Regardless of how fast a wolf can heal there are some injuries that take longer to heal or require assistance to heal. For example a rip to the throat if caught early enough can be helped to heal if you have someone who knows what they are doing around. Also not all wolves heal at the same rate. Some wolves would take too long to heal from a wound and it could cause major problems without help.”
“Correct Olivia. This is why we have pack doctors. Not that I am saying that you are all going to be pack doctors, but even the basic pack members having some knowledge on what to do in this instance can help to save a life. Now the next question: Why is it important to know both the wolf and the human anatomy?” She looks around the class expecting someone to know the answer. Again as she looks I am the only one with my hand up.
“Alright, anyone besides Olivia wants to try and answer this.” I put my hand down. “I want class participation here.” Still no one raises their hands. “OK Olivia, go ahead.”
I sigh, now I am starting to stick out here too. I can still feel the gaze next to me bore into me even harder, why me really? “It is important to know because sometimes an injury can prevent the shift. There are even some instances where wolves have been stuck in both forms at once. Knowing where the organs are can help to aid in the healing.”
“Correct. Now, can someone tell me what are the five major points of injury that would need assistance in healing? Anyone? Come on, someone has to have a guess. How about you Peter? Just take a guess as to one point.” She is looking at him really inquisitive, like she isn’t sure if he really would know the answer.
His gaze finally leaves me and looks to the professor as she stands at the white board up front writing the numbers one through five. “The Heart.” His husky voice answers. If he wasn’t such an ass that voice would drive me nuts. Where the hell did that thought come from?
“Yes, now was that so hard?” She writes this as number one. Her tone almost sounds condescending. “Alright next. Um, Jackson, can you give me another one?”
Off to my left I hear “Brain.” She writes this down, then like magic the answers start flying. “Liver.” “Throat.” “Lungs.”
“Yea, now we have a class. Now what is the difference between an Alpha and an Omega?” She turns around to look at the class. They have all become dead silent again. “Now don’t you all answer at once, come on.” She waits for a moment. “Olivia, why don’t you answer this one?”
All eyes are on me. Crap, why can’t I be invisible? “The difference between an Alpha and an Omega is the rate at which they heal. An Alpha can heal at a rate higher than that of a typical Omega. Although not all Omegas are slow healers, the majority are. This can be a good thing and a bad thing. For example, since Alphas are such fast healers their bones typically have to be re-broken in order for them to be set correctly. If it is not set correctly then the Alpha can be left with a limp or damaged.” I look away from the professor hoping that she will not ask me anymore questions.
“Don’t be ashamed to know the answer. I don’t want anyone to be afraid to answer the questions in this class. Even if you are wrong, at least you are trying. We don’t learn anything unless we engage. Since it is the first day and we are all tired, I am going to let you all go early. I do want to see you tomorrow having read chapter one of your textbooks. No homework but read it. I want to hear answers to my questions.” She looks at everyone as if her mere look is going to make them read the chapter.
My classmates start rushing for the door. I start packing up my things when I notice that he hasn’t left and he is still staring at me. What the hell is he doing? I figured he would want to get away from me as soon as possible.
“Um, class was dismissed.” I say to him, hoping that maybe he was just spacing off and didn’t hear the professor.
“I know.” He still sits and stares at me. I can’t really make out his look. I can’t tell if he is angry or just trying to figure me out.
“Can I help you with something?” I figure I will give him some sort of opening to get some clarity. Maybe that will make him leave faster.
“How did you know the answers? Were you doing a web search or something?”
I glare at him. Of course he thinks I’m stupid how would I know the answer. “Just because I am an Omega doesn’t mean that I don’t have brains. Go ahead and do a web search yourself and see what answers you come up with. With the internet you are more likely to get human answers not wolves. I am not a cheater, contrary to popular opinion.”
The professor approaches us, we are the last two left in the class. “I just wanted to congratulate you Olivia on the highest test scores we have seen here in a long time. A lot of us Professors are excited to see your abilities this year.” She smiles at me.
“Thank you professor. To be honest I want to get as much as I can out of this and then hopefully make some changes for Omegas in the future.” I smiled back at her. I am trying to ignore the look that has now crossed Peter’s face. It is a combination of confusion and then realization.
“Well, if anyone can do it, it’s you. Congrats, see you tomorrow.” She turns and leaves the classroom.
Peter looks at me. “So, I guess that means I got the lowest score in the class.”
“What?” I try to play dumb. I knew this, I just didn’t want him to feel bad.
“If you got the highest that means you were paired with the lowest. That means I was the lowest.”
“I guess it does.” I shrug like it isn’t any big deal. I rise from my stool and go to step around him. I am not the type to gloat.
He blocks my way by kicking out his leg making a bridge between our station and the one behind us. “So, you are going to tutor me.” He smirks at me.
“What?” I look at him in shock. This is one cocky asshole.
“You are going to tutor me and help me along in this class. Starting tonight. Be at my house at seven tonight to go over the first chapter.” He is looking at me to see my reaction. He really isn’t making it sound like an option, more of a command.
“I can’t, I have plans tonight at seven.” I can tell he isn’t the type to take no for an answer but neither is the Beta that I have to meet later. The Beta actually hurt me today so I am more inclined to be with him on time, I don’t think my leg could take anymore.
“Cancel them.” He makes the statement like he isn’t going to let this go.
“No can do. Believe me I would rather die than make that appointment but unfortunately that is not an option.” I go to push his leg out of the way.
“Then you are meeting me at five. That gives us enough time to go over the chapter before you have your oh, so important meeting at seven.” He states as if this is a matter of fact and not up for negotiation. He reaches over to my pants pocket where I keep my phone not even phased that he is reaching into my pants and takes my phone. He opens it and types in a number then I hear his phone vibrate. “Now, I have your number and I will be texting you the address. Don’t be late.” He reaches over and slides the phone back into my pocket.
“Did that thrill you in some way?” I glare at him.
“Yes, actually. I am quite thrilled.” He smirks at me as he moves his leg out of my way. “By the way, you should put a lock on your phone. You have no idea who could get your phone and use it.”
“I hardly use the thing anyway. It is just for emergencies so I don’t think there is a problem.” I shrug and walk towards the door.
“I’ll make sure that you get more use out of it.”
“Thanks, but I think I’m good. I will be there tonight.” I don’t look at him anymore as I speak, this guy does not need any more encouragement.
“See ya.”
I am more than glad to be out of that class. Just my luck I get to spend my evening with two assholes. One of which was just feeling me up. I shutter, this can not be happening to me. I mean I do not do that sort of thing and I just stood there. What the hell is wrong with me? I just reached my car when my phone dings that I have a message. I take a quick look and see it is Peter.
“Looking forward to tonight. Wear something sexy. 386 Bridge street.”
Go figure they live next door to each other. Of course they are probably going to talk and know that the other is meeting with me. Wait, wear something sexy!! What the hell is he talking about? Now I know that I am going to wear the exact opposite. He is an Alpha to be. How can he talk to an Omega like that? Goddess help me please. I need to keep my hormones in check, this is not good.
