Book:Coastal Desires Published:2024-5-1

Nate’s POV
I was in the middle of my meeting when I got her text.
Kidnapped. danys. Two guys shady van. Think is Pamela. Find me pls I’m scared. Love u alwys forever. Urs Marissa.
Then I felt drained, numbed, and cold. My brain quickly thought of hundreds of worst-case scenarios, whilst I got out of the room and I excuse my self from the meeting. I went back to my office, and informed my PA that I had a very urgent matter, and told her to reschedule the meeting.
She was baffled, as she knows how I had been waiting for this meeting since weeks ago. She was asking me more questions, that was when I lost my cool and yelled at her.
“Fucking hell Bridgette! just fucking do it. My girlfriend is being kidnapped as of this moment, I can’t fucking function. Fuck! Fuck! Fuck!” I punched the wall as I felt my frustration built up.
“God damn it. Look sorry Bridgette. Please just do this okay…” I gripped my battered knuckles as I got on the phone and called Andrew, my real estate buddy. He knows a guy in the police force. His girlfriend was almost raped by her ex, luckily I got there in time and punched the guy couple of times and hold him until his cop friend got there.
Bridgette comes to my office, with a post-it of the new schedule for the meeting. She knew that I was on the phone, so she sticks the post it on my planner. Then she grabbed my fist, and cleaned it with a damp towel, and stick a bandaid on the blisters. Now I felt bad for yelling at her.
She had been working with me from the ground up. She’s in her fifties, she had always treated me, like I’m her own son.
“Look, Andrew, I need the matter to be taken care of quickly. I’m so fucking stress here dude. Fuck! I shouldn’t have let her leave alone….” I told Andrew while noting down Dave’s mobile number. Andrew said that he was on his way to my office, to pick me up to the police station and meet with Dave. I hung up the phone and thanked Bridgette for my hand.
“Bridgette, I’m sorry about earlier….”
“I’m good Nate, why don’t you go and wait for Andrew in the lobby. I’ll close up the office and move all of your appointment for the next couple of days okay? Don’t forget to call her family. They might be worried about her too.” She patted my back and ushered me out of the office. I thanked her again, as I cursed remembering about her father.
Fuck! This was too fucking hard. I was so fucking frustrated, I needed to punch something again. I kept being reminded by her text, saying how she loves me always and forever. It was like, she was saying goodbye to me.
Fuck! This was not how it was supposed to happen. We were supposed to live happily ever after! God fucking damn it!
I got to the lobby and was waiting for Andrew when I decided to call Albert, the family lawyers slash his father’s best friend. I couldn’t risk his health by giving him this information. I need to consult this to Albert.
“Nate it’s been a while… how are you?” He picked up my call at the second tone.
“Not good Albert. It’s Marissa she texted me earlier saying she had been kidnapped. I’m on my way to the police station. I’ll forward you her text. I need you to think about how to inform Raymond of this situation. I don’t want to shock Raymond with the news. You’re his best friend, he’s better now, but still, this is Marissa we’re talking about….” I was still talking to Albert when Andrew came, and pulled over, and opened the passenger door.
I hopped in his car and greeted him. He told me to carry on with the phone call, as he quickly drives off to the police station.
“Why don’t you meet us at the police station, I’m almost there. Right okay, I’ll see you later. Okay. Later.” I hung up on Albert then started talking to Andrew.
“Shit man, you look like hell. Did you just punch a wall? You always did that thing, when you’re awfully stressed. Look Dave is the best and he’s surrounded the best people there. You’re good Nate, we’re doing this fast.” Andrew told me as he picks up his speed, as the traffic was sparse ahead.
We arrived at the police station five minutes later. Then we regroup in his office. He got two of his men already inside with their laptops. I told him about her text and her last location that she shared. He quickly called one of his patrol units. Twenty minutes later, his man told him that they got her purse and her phone in the garbage bin.
I slumped to the chair, and run fingers through my hair, as I grew more and more frustrated. Then Albert came into the room. Andrew introduced himself and told Albert about what had been happening, seeing that I was occupied with my own thoughts.
“I know this might not mean anything, but I’m bringing Pamela’s financial information. I got this from the divorce settlement thing. It’s her list of accounts that needed to be paid monthly. I’m seeing some storage units and a couple of very small estates….” He told Dave and Andrew as he retrieved the piece paper from his pocket.
Then Dave gave it to his guy that was still typing furiously on his laptop. “Try out this route to the storage unit Ben. Follow the van from Danny’s, we missed them when they turn left from the main road. Now back up to the CCTV by the town library, right there! that’s it, we found them. Now just follow them. I’ll call patrol and coordinate with them.” He was calling his guys when I take a look at the laptop screen. I could see the van, it was still moving.
My heart beats faster now, knowing that there was a chance that she was inside that van. I just hope that we were following the right van. Albert patted my shoulder trying to calm me down.
“Come, Nate, let’s go get her. Andrew and Albert, you can coordinate with Ben here. I still need you guys on the lookout and think of anything further that would give us more information on the kidnapper.” I got up simultaneously and followed Dave to his car.
God, please let her be fine… please…. please… I fucking love her too much to let anything bad happen to her…
You let me save her from drowning her ass off in the ocean, you got to let me save her from this thing too… you got to… you just got to…
