I looked at her.
Even Krista knows how much I trust Uncle Jacob.
She even hid a lot of things from me because of my trust.
But Uncle Jacob… used this trust to betray me.
Krista’s pov
Cheney hesitated for a moment and then said, “I believe you.”
I looked at him, and my voice was very light, but I was full of unhappiness. “Less duplicity, if you believe it, you won’t avoid it just now.”
“I didn’t avoid it,” he said with a dignified expression. “Do you remember the college student who hurt you?”
I nodded. “Of course.”
“She committed suicide in the police station and is now being treated in this hospital. She refused to give up who instructed her at that time. Just in the kitchen, your words reminded me, so I went out and found Milo and asked him to test her.”
“What do my words have to do with the college student? Isn’t she Fiona’s daughter?”
“Yes, when the negative news about you first broke out, the college student testified that someone in the Fischer’s mansion ordered her. We followed that number and found an employee of the Fischer’s mansion.”
I answered, “I know, didn’t you fire him?”
“The dismissal of that employee was just a show for the real black hand behind the scenes. In fact, after my investigation, I knew that the employee was just taking the blame. I had secretly arranged a job for him. When he left, he told me that Fiona had a lover in the Fischer’s mansion.”
I’m not a fool, what Cheney was saying, and I finally understood what he meant.
“You mean Jacob is Fiona’s lover?”
He sank, “If Jacob really directed the child, then this is the only guess that can explain why Jacob is so abnormal.”
I was silent for a moment. “If?”
He nodded, “The child would rather die than give up the person behind her, so I will let Milo test her again today. Although the result is unclear, my feeling is that it is really related to Jacob. I have arranged this matter, Milo will continue to follow her, and I will tell you once I have the result.”
I really didn’t expect Cheney to investigate Jacob because of my words.
I always thought that I was alone on the road against Jacob.
But …
“If, in the end, it can really be proved that Jacob did everything, what are you going to do?”
I wonder if Cheney will be lenient with that person if Jacob really wants to hurt me and the children.
He looked at me. “What are you worried about?”
“I’m afraid… that the wicked won’t get the punishment they deserve.”
He got up, went to the window and looked into the night sky.
“Krista, you know, I’m really uncomfortable now. Although you have your doubts, I’m still expecting subconsciously that your guess is wrong. I can accept anyone in the Fischer’s mansion betraying me, but Uncle Jacob… he is the one who watched me grow up. At some point, he is even more important to me than my father.”
His voice is heavy. “In those days, I paid too much attention to Flora because of Uncle Jacob. At that time, I relied on Uncle Jacob very much. Because of him, I would love me, love my dog and take care of Flora very much. Later, after experiencing many things, I learned to understand that my feelings for Flora are more like brother and sister.”
I looked at him, as if I could understand his feelings.
“I think… I might know how you feel right now.” I walked silently to his side and stood side by side with him.
Cheney looked at me.
I pulled my lips at him. “When I first knew that my mother might have betrayed my dad, my heart seemed to tear, which was very painful like it could kill me. That kind of feeling should not be better than you are now.”
He reached out and took my hands.
I also push a little hard and hold it tightly.
The two of us looked at each other, and I sipped my lips. “However, what should be faced is to be faced after all. I understand this truth as a small person in the dust. You are an admired big man, and you can’t fail to understand it.”
He sighed, “Escape is really not the solution to the problem, so I am tracing the truth of the matter. If things are really as you said, then I can only cut the Gordian knot.”
I nodded. “But when the time comes, Grandpa and Grandma will find it difficult to accept this fact.”
“The wound is a wound. Even if it hurts again, it must be treated. Otherwise, it will only fester and affect the whole body.”
Cheney, I get it.
My worries are unnecessary.
Yes, how can it not be redundant?
He is Cheney, a man who is calm enough, wise enough and decisive enough.
How can he allow malicious people to stay by his side?
I leaned sideways, squeezed in front of him, hugged him conveniently, and pressed my cheek against his shoulder.
Cheney bowed his head and said gently, “It’s really rare. You will take the initiative to hug me. Do you pity me?”
“I was helpless. When I was in pain, I thought that if there could be someone at this time, how good it would be to give me a hug.” I looked up at him. “I don’t know how similar your mood was to me in the past. I only know that the only thing I can do is to stand by your side and tell you that I will accompany you and support you silently.” I looked at him and comforted him.
Cheney and I went back to the ward, Romeo was asleep, and Uncle was taking a nap.
I asked, “Where is Milo?”
Cheney sat down with his legs crossed. “He went and did my business.”
“It’s not easy enough to be your secretary.”
“So, I gave him plenty of money.” He raised his wrist and looked at the time.
I glanced at him. “Are you in a hurry?”
“No, I’m waiting for Milo to come back.”
I didn’t say anything more.
No sooner after I finished preparing the meal, Milo knocked at the door and came in. “Mr. Cheney, I’m back.”
“How is it?”
Milo shook his head.
Cheney looked dignified and got up. “Go and have someone arrange an empty ward to talk.”
Milo nodded and went out.
I looked at Cheney, “Have you encountered a difficult problem?”
Cheney whispered, “It’s about Uncle Jacob and the college girl.”
I got up and said, “Can I listen to it together?”
He raised his eyebrows. “Come over if you are interested.”
I walked over, gently woke up my uncle, told him to keep an eye on Romeo for me, and then left with Cheney.
The three of us came to the ward next door.
Because of Cheney’s understanding, even if I was there, Milo had nothing to hide. “Mr. Cheney, the police went to the ward to talk to the college student for ten minutes, and the girl didn’t lift her eyes. I really can’t figure it out. Where did she get the confidence and have no fear?”
Cheney raised her eyebrows. “It’s very simple. The college student also knows the law. Since she dares to do this, she must know that this will not sentence her to multiple penalties. She committed suicide in order to arouse public opinion in the future, because public opinion is always biased towards the weak. It seems that we have to change our way.”
I wondered and asked, “What way?”
Cheney said, “Let the student go and lure Uncle Jacob into the bait.”
I shook my head. “I don’t think that is a good way.”
“Oh?” Cheney and Milo both looked at me.
I went on to say, “If the student is released, and we can’t figure out the way on how she meets Jacob, wouldn’t it be a vain attempt to get the student out of legal responsibility?”
“Do you have any good ideas?”
“Speaking of which, I really have a way to try.”
Half an hour later, I showed up in Sophia’s room, and she was surprised to see me.
I came to the hospital bed. “Do you still recognize me?”
She looked unhappy. “What are you doing here?”
I pulled up a chair, crossed my legs, and sat down. “You are 20 years old, which is the best time of your life, but you have to go to jail for calculating me. Do you think that your behavior will not affect your future for a long time? Little girl, you’d better wake up. These records should be recorded in the archives. Where do you think would dare to take in a man who was expelled from school and had a criminal record? In the future, your prison experience these days will become a nightmare that you can’t get rid of. Everyone will poke your spine and say, you don’t learn well. ”
“Don’t scare me, I won’t eat this set at all.”
