His face sank. “Krista, don’t lie to me.”
“Why should I lie to you? It’s really spicy.” I picked up my glass and took a sip of orange juice.
He got up, walked up to me, took my shoulders and bent over. “Tell me, what’s wrong with you?”
Looking at him, my heart was inexplicably weak. “Last time, you said you wanted to take me to see fireworks, but I didn’t go in anger, but now, I regret it. I really want to see fireworks. After dinner, can you take me?”
I deflated my mouth and couldn’t hold back my tears.
He held out his hand to help me in wiping away tears. “Will you tell me what you’re feeling while watching fireworks?”
I grinned and nodded.
He smirked. “Don’t laugh if you’re in a bad mood. Laughing is more ugly than crying.”
“Then you may forget about my present ugly appearance. I don’t want people to remember me for my ugly appearance.”
“Are you reminding me to take pictures of you because you’re so ugly and bother you?”
I laughed. This isn’t what I said the last time I saw him.
I shook my head. “Forget it.”
I pointed to his seat. “Eat.”
Cheney called Milo and plans a fireworks display by the water after a quiet meal.
We didn’t get off the bus, but sat in the car and looked at the distant night sky as he took me to the seaside because the sea breeze was cool.
Fireworks bloomed in the night sky on time at eight o’clock, and pedestrians stopped to watch.
But right now, in my heart, it’s a different taste.
Fireworks are beautiful, but they can’t last forever.
This truth is all too clear to me.
Before they ended, fireworks bloomed one after another for over 10 minutes.
“Now, you may say what happened,” he looked at me when the surroundings were quiet again.
I locked my eyes on him. “Today I sneaked over to see Flora.”
He was deafeningly quiet, his eyes locked on me.
I avoided his eyes. “I feel an awful sense of responsibility as I see Flora weaken.”
“Flora’s difficulties are unrelated to you. Take no responsibility for your actions. Also, in the future, don’t go to see her on your own initiative. I’ll take care of her problems.”
I locked my eyes on him, a serious and concentrated expression on my face. “What is the best way to deal with it? Has she been avoiding it, and have you left her to her own devices?”
He gave me a frown. “I just did not understand how to handle this situation.”
“What’s the use of thinking again when she’s dead?”
He looked at me. “Are you blaming me?”
I bite the inside of my lower lip. “I’m just scared. If she dies one day, everyone will point the finger at me, surround you, and I killed her.
Cheney, you have no idea how I’m feeling right now. I don’t want to be always trapped between you. It’s difficult for me to live with such uneasiness.”
“So, what exactly are you trying to say?”
My palms were sweaty as I clasped my hands together. “We… we…”
“Krista, have you thought the consequences of what you’re about to say?”
When I looked at him, he knew me, and he knew exactly what I was trying to say.
For a long time, I struggled. “Let’s get a divorce, Cheney.”
Cheney’s pov
It turns out that her abnormality today is to divorce me. What a Krista.
“You can take me to a Hongmen banquet without smoke, but do you think I will let you go so easily?”
“It’s not me that you should let go now, it’s yourself,” she shook her head. “Admit it, you don’t know how to face Flora at all. You are also afraid that she will die and live in regret for the rest of your life, aren’t you? As long as I leave, this matter can be solved easily.”
“Who allowed you to leave?”
“Cheney,” she shook her head and choked in her voice. “The world of three people is too crowded.
We all know this truth. You let me go and I will give you freedom, okay?”
I couldn’t suppress my inner anger at all. “I won’t divorce you, never.”
She locked her eyes on me. “You don’t have to say no straight away. I’ll give you a day to think about it. I also gave Flora at the this time. If you don’t want to let go, you may come to the dumpling restaurant wherein we often eat around 6 p. m. tomorrow night. I swear that as long as you show up, I will never mention divorce again. I will be honest with you, stand by your side, and grow old with you. But if you don’t show up, I’ll take it as a sign that you’ve decided to leave me, and our marriage will be over.”
“I said there would be no divorce!” I said emphatically. And st art the car, and drive away.
Back at the Fischer’s mansion, I kicked out the Jade Court’s servants and took Krista upstairs. I kissed her like punishment and asked for her body over and over again.
Krista’s pov
I’m sure he’s upset in his heart.
So I didn’t say anything and just bear his anger silently.
Cheney didn’t say anything to me the next morning, got dressed, and left.
He was angry because I had violated our deal, I knew.
But… I’m at ease, and I found out after a few words were exported that it wasn’t too tough.
I went to the construction site, where I saw Quincy and Otto, and I gave Otto all of my work.
Otto was confused as to why I was doing this. “I am at least the Fischer family housewife.” I said, “And it’s time to enjoy myself.”
Quincy looked at me instead. He took Otto away and asked, “Krista, is there something wrong with you?”
I smiled brightly at Quincy as usual and said, “Uncle Quincy, don’t be very concerned. For personal reasons, I really don’t have much to do. This project is beyond my mind.”
“Really?”
“My husband is, in fact, Cheney. Who can give me a hard time when he’s around?” As I’ve mentioned, my smile fades and my expression becomes serious. “In the future, Uncle Quincy, you must take good care of yourself.”
“Lockie, can you help me tonight?” I said after leaving the construction site.
“What exactly would you like me to do for you? Just say it.”
