She continued to say to herself, “I just heard today that Flora is the daughter of Uncle Jacob, and Uncle Jacob has been living in the Fischer’s mansion. I want to know more… Flora also grew up in the Fischer’s mansion, so are you, childhood friends?”
“Flora was admitted to the Fischer’s mansion at the age of twelve, the year after her mother died, and Uncle Jacob brought her in.”
She nodded. “So, you are childhood friends?”
“I was sixteen years old that year. What kind of childhood sweetheart was I?”
She said, “Who started? Did you chase her or did she chase you?”
I looked at her with a serious expression.
She blinked. “Am I asking too many questions? Then don’t answer, I just think sitting like this is boring.”
After she said those words, she shrugged her shoulders. “I’ll go upstairs first, and eat a lot. Don’t let yourself get hungry.”
Before she stood up, I wiped my mouth and said, “I liked her first and liked her for many years. Later, when she had someone she liked, I hid this feeling in my heart, and then… she was wronged in her feelings, and I did not hesitate to confess it.”
I looked at her and continued talking. “Is there anything else you want to ask?”
She shook her head and compared her hands up. “Eat quickly, the noodles will be cold later.”
“You don’t need to remind me, by the way, thank you for this.”
After eating, I went upstairs with her. Walking to the door of the room, I grabbed her wrist to open the door.
She looked back at me and said, “What’s wrong?”
I pulled her into my arms, and my voice was frivolous. “What do you say?”
She frowned. “Afra is still waiting for us inside.”
“She’s asleep and won’t wait for us.”
After I said those words, I picked her up horizontally and walked to the next room. Putting her on the bed, I leaned over and kissed her lips.
Krista’s POV
When I closed my eyes, my mind suddenly rang with what Grandma said this evening. “He said that you are his woman, and he will be responsible for you.”
I slowly opened my face sideways. “Wait a minute.”
He looked down at me.
I smiled. “I’m tired.”
“You only need to be responsible for lying down, and you don’t need to contribute.” He said, bowing his head and kissing me again.
I let him kiss my body, and I said faintly, “When I was a child, I wanted to raise a dog.”
He stopped and looked at me.
I continued, “I begged my father for a long time, but my mother didn’t like hairy animals, so my parents never agreed. During the winter of my fifth grade, I saw a little white dog abandoned in a cardboard box downstairs in my community. The dog was very cute, huddled in a cardboard box, shivering with cold. I know that if I take it home, my father will not agree, but if I turn a blind eye, I can’t do it. So, I secretly made a decision. I want to take this dog home and argue with my parents. As I expected, my mother was really angry when she saw that I had brought back a dog.”
I added. “I promised my mother again and again that this dog would not cause trouble to the family, but my mother still disagreed with me. In the end, my father gave in, because I said that if they didn’t agree, I would run away from home with the puppy. My father was afraid that I would rebel, so he agreed that I should put the puppy in my room, but he made an agreement with me not to allow the puppy to leave my room. I was so happy that I named the puppy Lucky. In this way, when I go to school every day, I especially look forward to going home to feed my little luck. I always thought that my mother would compromise. Until that day, when I came home, I found that little Lucky was gone, and so was the kennel that I carefully made for it.”
He frowned, and I pulled the corners of my mouth, and continued, “I went to the kitchen and asked my mother where the dog went, and my mother said she was sent to the dog rescue station. I cried very sadly, I didn’t eat, didn’t go to school. In order to get it, I beg her every day but my mother had never agreed to help me get my little Lucky back.”
I smiled and continued talking, “On the third morning of my hunger strike, my father came into my room and brought me my favorite pastry. He told me that he had found my dog and bought it and gave it to dog lovers. In order to make me believe him, my father also took a video of Little Lucky and its new owner. When I saw the video, I cried. My father asked me why I cried. I said I didn’t know, but I just felt very uncomfortable. Later, it took me a long time, and after many encounters and parting, I realized that the reason why I was so sad was that I already had feelings for my dog, so after it left, I felt sad and lost.”
After I said those words, I suddenly kept quiet.
He leaned sideways, sat up beside me, and stared at me. “So? What are you trying to say?”
“When you raise a cat and dog and finally decide to send it away, just like me, I will have the feelings of letting me as an alone person, again.”
I looked at him seriously. “Cheney, I push you first to marry me. I never forgot how I climbed into your bed, so… even if I was your woman, I never thought about making you responsible for me.”
“What are you trying to say?” He asked.
“In fact, it’s not so difficult to send me away. Maybe, you will be reluctant in the short term because we have been together for a while, but after a while, you will forget that a woman named Krista once came into your life. There are many people in the world. There are always many passers-by coming and going around you. Maybe I am one of them. I don’t want you to decide to stay with me and be responsible for me because of your responsibility. In this marriage, I have always had a purpose, my purpose has been achieved, and I don’t need you to be responsible for me. I’m still a good woman, I respect your first love and your decision if you want to… ”
“Don’t you dare say another word?” He threw himself on me and looked at me with cold eyes.
I noticed the anger in his eyes and blinked. I did… pick the wrong time.
“I just don’t want you to force yourself because of your responsibilities, and I don’t want to be the culprit for losing your loved one, so… well…”
I thought that if I said it sincerely, he would feel that he would not depend on his mood. But unexpectedly, it angered him. He is like a motor full of electricity, which makes my legs astringent and my eyes dim all night.
