Chapter 49

She looked up at me. “But this may have something to do with Baron and his side. If Baron is found out, the Fischer group will also be involved.”
“That’s even more important. Baron doesn’t have that much ability to affect the Fischer group. Just in time, I can also take this opportunity to remove Baron’s rat excrement.”
I looked up and pinned her broken hair behind her ears, and said seriously, “So, don’t worry, just continue to check all the information, I’ll help you.”
The breeze blows slowly, and the loose hair at her temples caresses her cheeks. This scene is particularly beautiful in my eyes.
Taking her back to the living room, I picked up a washed apple from the table and handed it to Krista. “In the morning, I need to arrange for a lawyer to find your mother. After stamping, you won’t have a chance to go back on your word, you know.”
She closed her eyes and took a deep breath. When she opened her eyes again, her eyes were full of firmness. “I have used all the reasons in order to forgive her. But this time, I really can’t find a reason to regret, forgive and pretend that nothing has happened.”
I reached out and patted her on the shoulder. “Remember how you feel now, and stop being a soft-hearted fool.”
She tugged at the corners of her mouth without saying anything.
Delia’s POV
Since that day, I have called Krista countless times, and she just hangs up or ignores it.
I’m at home, fidgeting, and my whole person seems to have lost my soul. I know she is really angry with me this time and I don’t know what to do to reach out to my daughter.
In the evening, neither Brent nor Zaniyah came back for dinner. At nine o’clock, I had just returned to my room when I heard the sound of smashing things downstairs.
I hurried out of the bedroom and saw Zaniyah downstairs disheveled and losing her temper.
I hurried downstairs and said, “Zaniyah, what’s wrong with you?”
Zaniyah looked at me bitterly and pushed me away. I stumbled two steps and fell to the ground.
She pointed at me with a ferocious face. “Bitch, get out of here.”
The servant stepped forward and tried to help me, but Zaniyah stamped his feet. “Nobody helps this bitch.”
She came up to me, lifted her foot, and kicked me hard. I ate pain and yelled, “Zaniyah, what are you doing?”
She squatted down and grabbed my collar. “Do what? Since you gave birth to your daughter to provoke me, I can only take it out on you.”
After she said those words, she raised her hand and slapped me. I can’t fight back at all. The servants were afraid to come forward. After some abuse, she finally went upstairs and went back to her room. I collapsed on the ground, was covered in injuries, and couldn’t get up at all.
Retribution, is this my retribution?
Zaniyah’s POV
Back in my room, I fell down on the sofa. This afternoon, I was drugged and did that with a strange man. When I woke up, I was the only one in the car, but the memory card in the driving recorder in the car was missing.
I know that Cheney planned this thing because I drank that glass of wine today in his private room. Is he taking it out on that bitch Krista?
What Cheney would want to do is to take revenge. He got proof that I was sleeping with a man. I opened my eyes worried and gnawed at the thumbnail of my right hand. If that video comes out, I’m finished.
I grabbed the pillow, threw it hard on the ground, and screamed. No, I can’t! I can’t just sit back and wait. I picked up my cell phone and called Cheney directly. Cheney actually answered, but after the phone was connected, he didn’t speak.
I clenched my fist slightly. “Mr. Cheney, this afternoon…”
“I heard that you broke into my lounge for no reason, didn’t you?”
“Sorry, I just wanted to talk to you, so…”
“In the lounge, I prepared some wine and planned to drink with my lover when she arrived. As a result, you upset our plan. I haven’t settled accounts with you yet, and now you dare to call me?”
I’m even more nervous. So, he knows the wine is good, and he’s going to have sex with Krista after drinking it? Am I overthinking? Is all this a coincidence?
I gritted my teeth. “I didn’t mean it.”
“Why did you call me?”
“Nothing, I’m sorry.”
I closed my eyes. How can I ask? I broke into someone else’s lounge and drank the wine myself? Soon, Cheney hung up the phone directly. I collapsed feebly on the sofa.
Krista’s POV
Cheney entered the room with a big smile on his face and looked like he was in a good mood.
“Is there anything to celebrate?” I asked.
He raised his wrist, looked at the time, and said mysteriously, “Of course. I’ll show you something interesting in half an hour.”
I looked puzzled.
He hooked his lips, picked up a bottle of red wine and put in two glasses, and walked upstairs, saying, “Follow me.”
I went upstairs, followed him to the balcony, and sat on the small coffee table. He poured two glasses of wine and handed me one of them.
I was curious so I asked, “Can’t you tell me what it is now? What’s with your smile?”
“No, if I tell you now, there will be no surprise.”
My noisy mouth took the glass, “You are really making it suspenseful.”
I took a sip of wine, looked up at the night sky, and remembered the last time two people drank beer here, they almost went off. I shook my head as if thinking too much.
“By the way.” He looked at me. “You have one more thing to thank me for.”
I frowned. “How can I thank you if you don’t say anything? What is it?”
“Just now, I asked Milo to investigate the chief engineer sent by the Fischer group to the Cross River Bridge and made a new discovery.”
He raised his eyebrows and continued talking. “The chief engineer in charge of this project at the beginning was Tyrone, who participated in the project for less than a month and resigned early because of the conflict with Wyatt. Now, he has retired for four years, providing for the elderly abroad and bringing grandchildren to his son. I’ve sent Milo to contact Tyrone. If he can prove it in your favor, it will be much easier.”
