CHAPTER 25

“Wake up inamorata” smile crossed my lips as Zane whispered that to me.
“Good morning” I pecked a kiss on his cheeks.
I peeped out of the window at the white snowflakes that fell from the rosy sky, carrying the intoxicating breeze along, indicating that it was a December morning and the Christmas is near and that all my problems have ended and the new year will bring me a new beginning, a happy one.
I opened the fridge after taking a quick shower and took the packet of blood out that we had stolen from the hospital that was adjacent. I was finding the thought of drinking blood disgusting but now I am craving for it. The metallic and slightly sweet smell of blood lured me. I brought the packet to my lips and was sloshed by it. I don’t why I was finding it awful. It’s not at all repulsive, in fact it has revitalized me.
“Disgusting eh?” I turned to voice of Zane.
“Absolutely not”
“You have only half an hour to get ready”
“For what?” I scrunched my eye brows.
“Little surprise for you” he winked.
I dressed myself up in a black jeans and a red top and since it was cold outside, I put on a brown leather jacket.
“I’m ready” I announced.
“Great now let’s go but first…” he said removing a black coloured cloth from his pocket and covered my eyes.
“A blindfold? Why?” I asked mystified .
“Trust me” he said and covered my eyes. I’m afraid, the last time he blindfolded me, he confessed that he’s a vampire. I hope that this time there’s no surprise as such. We hit the road and since I was blindfolded, all I could hear was psithurism and noise of car’s tyre as it hit the snow on the road. There was no traffic on the road because I couldn’t hear any honks from anywhere. Of course who walks out at 7 am on a holiday when it’s snowing except for Zane? If there were people around, and if they would have seen me like this, I’m sure they would’ve thought that Zane is kidnapping me. I laughed inwardly at the thought.
“What’s that for?” Zane asked, guess he heard my chuckle.
“Nothing” I said giggling.
“Okay I assume you’re excited for the surprise”
“You can assume that” I said letting out another chuckle.
Finally the car stopped and I guess I was now allowed to remove the blindfold. The view in front of me was breathtaking. We were on top of the hill where everything was covered in snow. The icy blue sky from this spot looked staggering. I wasn’t yet finished grasping in the beauty of this place then a snowball hit my face. I turned to the direction where it came from only to get hit by another snowball thrown by Zane, this time straight on my nose.
“Zane you’re gone” I shouted and threw one big snow ball at his face. The next I targeted him with back to back three snowballs, one at his face, the other at his back when he tried to dodge but couldn’t escape and the third one on his head. He kneeled down to collect some snow and when he stood up making the ball of the snow, I ran in order to avoid getting hit by the ball but fell straight on the snow as the ball hit my back.
“Ouch” I uttered and Zane came running to me.
“Are you okay?” he asked concerned and I made no delay in taking the advantage of the situation, I quickly and secretly collected the snow in my hand and smeared it all over his face.
“You cheat” he said removing the snow from his face and dragged me down to the ground in the snow and I couldn’t stop laughing as he tickled me.
After a good laugh, and some more fun at the top of the hill, we headed back to the car.
“I loved this place” I stated. “Going back home?”
“No going home today” I got the answer in return.
“Then where are we going?” I asked bemused and he smiled but got no answer in return.
“You have to wait to know” he said.
The journey was long, it took hours to reach the spot but we have finally reached the destination and the time it took was worth it. The dome above the pool looked appealing and the trees around, purified the air, the sweet and somewhat musky smell of the sand was peaceful. The smell of the nature is always refreshing and no branded perfume can ever match it’s odour. I have always dreamed to be here and today I am. I kept insisting my parents for a trip at this place but holidays were far my reach. Now that I’m here, I can’t believe that I’m here at the Hamilton pool, the natural pool that was created when the dome of an underground river collapsed due to massive erosion thousands of years ago. It’s one of my favourite place.
“I’ve always wanted to come here” I said, drawing in some fresh air.
“That’s why I brought you here” he said giving me a polite hug. The rest of the time we spent sitting besides the pool, under a tree, talking about things we loved.
After a long, exciting day, we were back home and even after traveling all day, I didn’t feel exhausted at all, maybe these are the perks of being a vampire.
Zane returned from the bathroom in black track pants and a white shirt.
“Thanks for this lovely and wonderful day Zane, I can never forget this day” I said.
“We are to spend many more days like this together” he responded.
I then pulled my blanket and switched off the lights of the room, recalling all our moments spent together I thought how blessed I am to have Zane in my life.
