Chapter 14 – Best Boyfriend Ever(3)

Book:The Billionaire's Obsession Published:2024-5-1

Something told me he was already informed, Nick might complain about his friend, but he also shared a lot with him. I’m sure he already shared with Evan how everything went so far. When I looked at Evan I noticed how he shot a glance at Giselle, something told me there was more to his question. Was he also aware of Giselle’s unhealthy obsession with Nick? Was he trying to wind her up? It was good to know Evan was on my side. It made me a bitch, but I wanted Giselle to choke on her jealousy.
“I’m not sure if I should share that with you.” I sipped my wine.
Evan smirked, “Nick already told me everything.”
“I didn’t tell you anything. All I told you was I had to leave because I had an important matter to attend to-”
“That would be Emily.” Evan gestured to me, “When your look and tone changed I knew exactly what matters you were talking about. And seeing you two together now I can only assume you two had a wonderful time. Don’t you agree, Emily?”
“It was amazing,” I told him, swirling the red rich liquid around the glass.
Nick grabbed the vodka soda the waiter handed him and narrowed his eyes at Evan. I had seen that determined look in Nick’s eyes before. He had stalked toward me and more or less demanded of me to leave with him. It was THAT look.
“Shouldn’t you focus on your party instead of my girlfriend?”
It was odd hearing Nick refer to me as his girlfriend in public, but that was who I am to him. I was indeed his girlfriend, we had been seeing each other for weeks now. Sleeping in each other’s bed, being in each other’s life. Just hearing him say it out loud in front of people who were important in his professional life caught me off guard.
“Your girlfriend?” Evan and Giselle asked in unison.
“Stop being so surprised,” Nick grunted at Evan, completely ignoring Giselle who was genuinely surprised. I could Evan was the one who was acting here.
Nick turned to look at me, “We’re leaving when you finish your drink.” He told me.
“You can’t leave!” Giselle sounded shrill, “You promised Anna five minutes of your time, remember?”
Nick scrunched his nose, “Is she here yet?”
“She is always fashionably late, Nick.” Giselle chuckled, running her fingers over Nick’s arm as if to demonstrate that she could touch him as well, “But you know that…” The tone she used didn’t leave anything to the imagination.
Nick had dated that woman before and Giselle was throwing that in my face.
“If she is not here in ten minutes we’re leaving.” He tilted his head, his look as icy cold as usual.
Evan frowned, “I guess she heard you.” He nodded to the scarlet beauty in a very provocative black dress.
I glanced at Giselle who looked very pleased with herself. What I didn’t get was why she was pushing that tall scarlet woman who looked a bit too desperate onto Nick while she herself clearly had an obsession with MY boyfriend. I straightened my shoulders and smiled back at Giselle, something she didn’t expect.
“Why don’t you have a talk with her Nick, so we can leave as soon as possible.” I lowered my voice a little, “I really need to spend some time alone with you.”
I knew both Evan and Giselle heard me because I still spoke loud enough for them to hear.
“I’d say run and finish that conversation quickly because your lady needs you…”The way Evan wiggled his eyebrows really didn’t leave anything to your imagination.
Nick got up, turning on his heels. He had a small smirk spread across his handsome face while he approached his ex. He kept his distance from her, and actually looked like his isolated cold self again. What caught my attention was not the fact that the scarlet woman tried to feel up my boyfriend, but was the fact that Giselle was getting up from her seat. I got up as well and grabbed her arm, making sure she didn’t leave before I told her how I felt about her disgusting behavior. I didn’t give a damn that Evan was right beside me. I was sure he had my back no matter what. He rooted for me and Nick to be together, I had no idea why, but he did.
“What the hell are you trying to do?” I kept my voice low so the other people around us didn’t hear our conversation. I released her arm and folded my arms across my chest, awaiting her answer.
“I have no idea what you’re talking about.”
“You do know what I’m talking about. You rather have Nick date that woman instead of me, right?”
She flicked her hair back, “That’s exactly how it is.” The pretense was gone and the real Giselle finally showed her face, “I’d rather have him fuck a desperate wannabe than you.”
“Because you know she’s the kind of girl Nick would settle down with.” Evan interrupted, getting up as well, “You better leave before I tell Nick about your choice of words… I think he’d like to know his assistant is kind of a bitch.”
“Kind of?” I asked, smiling when Evan chuckled.
Giselle stalked off, the sound of her heels sounding louder than ever before. Evan sat back down again, laughing loudly which caused everyone around us to turn their heads, but we didn’t care. Evan had my back just like I expected of him.
“You’re helping me.” I fall back down in my seat, “Aren’t you supposed to be Nick’s rival who likes to mess with him for fun?”
“Nick is my Brandon, Emily.”
I wanted to laugh at that, but I didn’t. I understood their relationship. Brandon could annoy the hell out of me, but at the end of the day, I’d still walk through fire for him. We both looked up when Nick stood before us, looking even angrier than before. Whatever that woman had to say did not help with Nick’s mood one bit. I got up whispering a goodbye to Evan. Nick grabbed my hand in his, lacing our fingers together and walked me out of the VIP room. The club was still crowded, but everyone moved when Nick walked by. Giving us room to leave. I waved both Brandon and Victor goodbye.
“Why are you so upset?” I asked the moment we were safely in the car and Miles was driving us home since Nick had a drink.
“I don’t like it when people threaten me, especially people like her.”
“What is she like?”
He leaned back in his seat and met my gaze, “I don’t want to talk about that awful woman. If she dares to show her face again, Mike will make sure she won’t be spending so much money on her manicure ever again.”
Miles grunted, glancing at us through the rearview mirror, “Nick, the apartment is surrounded.” He managed to maneuver the car through the crowd and headed straight for the garage, “I’ll ask Alex to pick your car up.”
Nick got out the car first and walked around, holding the door open for me. He didn’t look like his usual calm self. The crowd outside was getting to him, I guess he didn’t expect it to blow up this fast. My guess was that Giselle and the scarlet-haired bitch had something to do with this, but I kept my words to myself.
“I’m sorry, Em.” Nick placed his hand on my lower back, guiding me through the garage, “I didn’t think it would escalate like this.”
“It doesn’t matter.”
We stepped into the elevator, “It does matter.” He sounded defeated, “I don’t want to mess this up-”
I pushed him against the cold metal wall and kissed him, hard and passionately. He seemed stunned for a second, not even kissing me back because he did not expect that. It made me feel powerful, knowing I could make this coldhearted billionaire shut up within a split second. Nick finally kissed me back, slipping his tongue into my mouth. I ran my fingers through his hair, massaging his scalp, pressing my body fully against his. He cupped my face in his hands, his concerns about the paparazzi long forgotten. Smirking I pulled away, knowing I had reached my goal. I distracted Nick long enough to calm him down a little.
“You don’t play fair.” He breathed, running a hand through his messed up hair.
I fixed my clothing, stepping out of the elevator with my head held high when we reached his floor. Nick quickly caught up with me, opening the door to his apartment. I kicked my shoes off and headed straight for the couch. Nick placed his jacket and tie over the one-seat and sat down next to me, brushing my hair behind my ear.
“I don’t understand how this could have gone out so fast.”
“You shouldn’t trust Giselle.”
He raised an eyebrow at my comment. I blurted something sensitive out once again. When I needed my ability to say whatever was on my mind it didn’t help me at all, when I didn’t need it, it put me in an embarrassing position. It was annoying having no brain to mouth filter.
“So Evan was right.”
Now I was the one who was confused here, “What is he right about?”
“He texted me about Giselle’s behavior. Did she threaten you?”
I knew it was better to tell Nick everything. If there were no secrets between us, we might actually work. I needed us to work since he was the first guy I actually fell in love with.
“She hates me because she is jealous. She rather has that awful woman fuck you… Her words, not mine… Than us being in a relationship.”
“She said that?” I could see the anger rising up in Nick’s eyes.
“She has been a bitch to me since the day we met.” I leaned closer, “I don’t like her, but I was afraid of telling you. Because I also don’t want to mess this up.”
Nick’s lips curled up, “We’re really two idiots, aren’t we?” He kissed my temple, “We went too fast in a short period of time. We need to actually start talking to each other.”
“That why you didn’t want to have sex with me, remember?” I brushed a finger up and down his chest and giggled when he pushed me back against the couch and hovered over me.
“I still think that’s the right thing to do, I’ll make us some coffee and we’ll actually have a real conversation.”
I watched him head to the kitchen, grinning like an idiot because I apparently had the best boyfriend on the planet. If Giselle would mess this up I’d punch her in the face.
