At that moment, she, wearing casual sportswear, with her graceful figure and beautiful face illuminated in the distance by the light, exuded a captivating beauty.
“If you want to kill him, you had to kill me first!” Starlight spoke firmly, without hesitation or fear.
Starlight’s appearance made Leo hesitate. He couldn’t possibly kill a beautiful female star along with Rafferty.
“Do you know his identity and actions?” Leo asked coldly.
“It doesn’t matter to me. If you wanted to kill him, you would have had to kill me first. If you spare me, please spare him as well.” Starlight’s tone was resolute, her eyes fixed on Leo.
After some hesitation, Leo finally lowered the Divine Dragon Sword in his hand.
“There is a natural law, Rafferty. You know the consequences of your actions. As the saying goes, you will reap what you sow. If the time comes again, don’t let me run into you. Take care of yourself.” Leo turned around and walked away, but then turned back and said, “To be honest, I envy you. To have such a beautiful woman willing to die for you.”
Starlight helped Rafferty up, and they watched as Leo’s figure disappeared into the darkness.
After leaving the unfinished construction site, Leo’s first reaction, thinking about Madame still unconscious in the gym, was to dash towards the Starlight Arena.
Not long after Leo left, Starlight helped the heavily injured Rafferty into her car, and they left the place.
Five or six minutes later, two people arrived, one old and one young.
They stopped where Leo and Rafferty had fought earlier, looking at the devastation around them. The old man’s face turned strange.
The young man by his side, looking surprised, asked, “Master, did Martial Cultivators fight here?”
“It wasn’t Martial Cultivators or Espers. I think it should be Cultivators and Demon Cultivators,” the old man replied.
The young man found it hard to believe. “Master, aren’t Cultivators and Demon Cultivators supposed to have disappeared from Earth completely a thousand years ago?”
“Although it’s said so, whether they have completely disappeared is unknown,” the old man looked up at the night sky with a pensive expression.
“Master, should we make preparations?” the young man asked.
“We should make preparations early. Let’s go, someone is coming,” the old man said.
Soon after the old man and the young man left, five people wearing special police uniforms arrived.
They searched the area but found nothing except the heavily damaged construction site.
“Captain, I don’t understand. Why didn’t they come earlier? They are coming now when everything has cooled down,” a burly team member complained.
The captain was unimpressed. “Who knows! The higher-ups had given direct orders that we don’t need to get involved in this matter. It’s a private directive from the headquarters to come and check. Just follow along and don’t ask too many questions.”
Meanwhile, at a secret base in WONDER.
“Mr. Steele, what do you think about this matter?” Abel sat opposite an elderly man in an old-fashioned room.
The elderly man, slightly overweight with a harmless smile on his face, had extremely sharp eyes.
If Leo had been there, he would have recognized the old man as the strange old man who had injected him on that rainy night. The old man was Beau Steele, the renowned second-generation leader of WONDER, known as Mr. Steele.
“Since Leo spared him, WONDER should not intervene. However, we must continue monitoring this Demon Cultivator. If he poses a threat to ordinary people, you know what to do.” Mr. Steele nodded, then asked, “After observing for some time, Leo does seem to be the final Awakener. Shouldn’t we tell him more things now?”
“We should inform him of more things. Find a time to bring him to me,” Mr. Steele agreed.
Back in the car, a red Porsche sped along the road to the outskirts of the city.
Starlight drove, with Rafferty in the passenger seat.
Although Rafferty’s bleeding had stopped, his eyes were lifeless, indicating his weakness.
“Rafferty, should I take you to the hospital?” Starlight looked worried.
Rafferty shook his head slightly. “My injuries are beyond what the hospital can handle. Starlight, don’t worry, I’ll be fine. Just take me to where I mentioned.”
Starlight was about to accelerate when she saw a figure in front of them. She hit the brakes hard, leaving two long black skid marks as the car came to a stop.
Standing half a meter in front of the car was a monk in robes.
The monk chanted a Buddhist mantra with palms together. Suddenly, he disappeared and reappeared beside the passenger seat.
Despite there being no controls for the passenger side window, it rolled down automatically.
Starlight sensed danger and tried to accelerate, but the car refused to move no matter how hard she pressed the accelerator.
“Sir, I ask you to return the scriptures taken from my Temple,” the monk said with a solemn tone and a hint of anger in his voice.
Rafferty coughed and responded coldly, “Old monk, are you taking advantage of my injury?”
The monk remained calm but firm, “I’m not taking advantage of your injury. However, if you insist on not returning the Dharma’s Ancient Scriptures to Temple of Seraphic Treasures, I may have to ask you to get out of the car.”
Rafferty sneered, “If it weren’t for my injury, you wouldn’t be able to stop me. The Dharma’s Ancient Scriptures are not on me.”
“Not on you?” The monk was surprised, then chanted another Buddhist mantra, “Sir, please do not deceive me. Tell me where the scriptures are.”
Starlight, worried about Rafferty’s injuries, spoke up, “Master, the Dharma’s Ancient Scriptures are indeed not with Rafferty. They were taken by a Cultivator named Leo who also harmed Rafferty.”
“Leo, a Cultivator?” the monk muttered to himself and then disappeared without a trace.
Leo, on the other hand, arrived outside the Starlight Arena.
Police cars were parked outside the venue, with many officers on the scene. Under police command, the fans inside the arena orderly left the premises.
The scene was not chaotic, and the status of Madame was unknown.
Using a teleportation technique, Leo disappeared from the spot.
Arriving at where Madame was seated in the third row, Leo found Madame missing. A yellow piece of paper on the seat raised Leo’s concern.
