Amaya let out a sigh and said, “Okay, Sophia. I’ll have someone bring you something to eat. You can’t collapse before Leo wakes up.”
After Amaya and Hayden left, the hospital room was quiet except for the occasional beeping of the instruments by the bed. Sophia reached out her hand and tightly held Leo’s hand as she whispered, “Leo, I know you won’t leave me behind, right?”
“Four years ago when I married you, we had no emotional foundation and were complete strangers,” she continued in a soft voice.
“But even so, you silently protected me from my family’s mistreatment and humiliation. After four years of being together day in and day out without realizing it at first – I fell in love with you. You are my only one in this life.”
“When I found out about your accident… my whole world crumbled,” Sophia said with tears streaming down her face.
“Leo… my husband… I can’t live without you. Please open your eyes and look at me!”
“If you can’t wake up, then I will forever sink into despair…”
Sophia’s eye sockets were already dry, unable to shed another tear, but the sorrow gushed out from her self-talk, filling the entire hospital room.
“What did you just call me?” A very familiar voice suddenly sounded in the hospital room.
Sophia was initially startled, but then she realized. When she saw Leo’s pale face with a mischievous smile, she exclaimed in joy, “You’re awake!”
Leo nodded slightly, looking at Sophia with warmth and affection.
The reason Leo remained unconscious after his injury was as Hayden had mentioned-severe damage to his meridians throughout the body, and the Spiritual Power accumulated in the elixir field was in a dormant state. Hayden’s entry of inner energy activated the dormant Spiritual Power in Leo’s elixir field, which, in turn, stimulated his nervous system, bringing him back to consciousness.
At this moment, Sophia’s phone rang; it was a call from Jessica.
Sophia took the phone, pressed the answer key, and whispered, “Mom, it’s so late, haven’t you slept?”
Sophia didn’t turn on the speaker, but in the quiet hospital room, Jessica’s voice could still be heard loudly, “Sophia, I thought you didn’t know what time it is! You haven’t come home yet. Are you wandering around with that useless Leo again!?”
“Mom, don’t talk nonsense. I’m in the hospital now, and Leo had an accident. I’m here with him.”
Leo waking up brought joy to Sophia, but Jessica’s phone call made her upset.
Hearing about Leo’s accident, Jessica was first stunned, then said in a strange tone, “Accident? What kind of accident? Is he dead? If he’s dead, you better hurry home. A jinx like him, dying would be a relief!”
“Mom! If you keep talking nonsense, I won’t talk to you!” Sophia’s earlier joy disappeared, and she was almost infuriated.
“Sophia, let me reiterate, I’m your mother! Since that useless Leo had an accident, take this opportunity to quickly divorce him. It’s good for you and good for our family!”
“Do you know what kind of trouble Leo has gotten into? If you don’t divorce him, who knows, one day, you might end up dead because of him!”
Hearing Jessica’s last words, Leo couldn’t help but frown. A thought suddenly occurred to him-has Maniwa already approached Jessica?
Thinking back to what Maniwa had said before, that he would kill Sophia if Leo didn’t divorce her, Leo couldn’t help but feel a chill down his spine.
Sophia was Leo’s weak spot. He could endure everything except seeing something happen to her.
Sophia didn’t argue with Jessica but directly hung up the phone and then turned off her mobile.
After repairing most of the damaged meridians and internal organs using Spiritual Power, Leo reached for the ventilator’s mask, then slowly sat up from the bed.
Sophia tossed her phone aside and quickly hugged Leo tightly, choked up, “Leo, you finally woke up. You scared me. I was afraid you would leave me like this…”
“Silly girl, I won’t leave you. Not in this lifetime.” Leo reached back to hug Sophia, a happy smile on his face.
Knock knock knock!
A knocking sound came from outside the ward.
The two let go of each other’s embrace simultaneously, and looked towards the door only to see a delivery guy wearing a uniform walking in.
“Hello, your delivery,” the delivery guy said politely.
Sophia stood up and took the food from him, saying “thank you.”
After the delivery guy left, Leo couldn’t help but laugh. “Sophia, your timing with this food is perfect. I was just getting hungry.”
“It wasn’t me who ordered it, it was Amaya,” Sophia replied as she opened the containers of food on the table.
“Amaya? When did she come?” Leo didn’t expect that woman to come see him.
“When they came over earlier, you were still asleep. Oh yeah, there was an old man named Hayden Elliott who came with Amaya and he’s the one who helped wake you up,” Sophia said as she scooped some porridge onto a spoon for Leo to eat.
Hayden?
Leo paused for a moment; no wonder he felt an unusual force enter his body when he was half-asleep.
Hayden had saved him twice now – once in Northern Desolation Mountains.
“What are you thinking about? Open your mouth,” Sophia said as she brought the spoonful of porridge closer to Leo’s mouth.
Leo obediently opened his mouth. He could have eaten by himself but having his beautiful wife feed him made everything more wonderful.
Seeing that Sophia only focused on feeding him without eating herself made Leo say quickly, “Don’t just feed me; eat some yourself too.”
“It’s okay; there’s plenty left,” Sophia smiled calmly at her husband’s concern.
“Oh yeah… did your mom call earlier?”
“Not really anything important. You know how my Mom is – always looking for trouble even when there isn’t any,” replied Sophia dismissively.
It had to be said that Amaya was very considerate, whether she anticipated Leo waking up or thought Sophia might not have enough to eat, she ordered enough food for two adults.
After filling their stomachs, Leo’s injuries were mostly healed, and at this point, there shouldn’t be any issues with him being discharged from the hospital.
However, to avoid alarming Sophia, Leo didn’t bring up the topic of leaving the hospital temporarily.
“Leo, can you please tell me what happened and who hurt you?” After cleaning up the food and disposing of the trash, Sophia asked with concern.
Leo hesitated for a moment but eventually said, “It was someone from Orientia.”
