“I think it must be a gift from Tommy to you, maybe some kind of jewelry, I can’t guess the specifics,” Leo shook his head.
Coral looked at him deeply, as if trying to see through him. After a while, she sighed and said, “Leo, I suddenly realized that you’re very bad.”
Leo was taken aback by her words. “How am I bad?” he asked.
Coral snorted coldly. “I’m sure you already know that Tommy likes me. You know that I wanted to bid on the gourd and Tommy knew it too, so he wanted to bid on it and give it to me. But you didn’t want him to succeed easily so you also bid on it and raised the price with him. Is that right?”
Leo smiled wryly. “You know me well Miss Wilde.”
Actually, Leo had originally planned to trick Bayden but then Tommy appeared halfway through so he had no choice but change his target.
What Coral said next caught Leo off guard.
“I really doubt your motives for doing this because at first you didn’t know about my plan of bidding on the gourd for you. So I can only speculate that this is just a retaliatory action driven by jealousy because you like me.”
Coral’s tone was very calm and there was no emotional fluctuation in her face as if she were talking about something extremely ordinary.
This made Leo feel embarrassed all of sudden; he could only laugh awkwardly, “Actually, I just don’t like Tommy’s attitude towards women; this has nothing do with whether or not I like you.”
Coral looked at Leo again with a serious expression and asked directly, “So now let me ask you directly. Do you like me or not?”
As expected of an overbearing female CEO, even her way of speaking was direct!
Leo was stunned because Coral knew he was already married yet still asked such a straightforward question; for a moment he didn’t know how to answer.
“No need to say anything!” Coral showed disappointment in her expression before turning her gaze out the car window.
She opened the window allowing cool night breeze rush into car blowing around her hair wildly.
The atmosphere inside became awkward instantly.
“Shall I take your home now?” Leo asked after some time passed
But Coral just stared blankly outside without responding as if she hadn’t heard what he said
Helpless, Leo repeated himself again, “I don’t want to go home right now. Let’s drive onto the Riville highway and go wherever, I just want to feel the wind.” Coral continued staring out the window, her tone as cool as the night breeze.
Leo expressed concern, “Close the car window, you’ll catch a cold.”
“No need for your concern!” Coral’s voice turned icy.
Leo sighed softly and stepped on the gas pedal harder. The neon lights of the city faded away with each passing mile.
The silence in the car made Leo uneasy. He tried to steal glances at Coral’s face while driving.
As they got onto Riville highway, it became colder inside with each gust of wind that blew in through their open windows. Coral shivered from her thin clothes but didn’t close her window.
Leo was observant and noticed Coral’s shoulder trembling slightly. When he looked closer, he saw a tear streak down her left cheek.
She was crying!
He hadn’t done anything wrong!
Leo raised up Coral’s side of the car window and handed her a tissue from inside his car but she didn’t take it. Instead she took one out from her own bag to wipe away tears from around her eyes.
“Sorry, I lost control.” As Coral adjusted her posture, her facial expression returned to normal, making it hard to believe that she had been quietly crying before.
“Squeak…!”
An abrupt screeching sound of brakes echoed as Leo slammed on the brakes.
The strong inertia caused both of them to lurch forward suddenly. Thankfully, they were wearing seat belts, or else their heads might have hit the windshield.
Coral exclaimed in alarm, “What happened!?”
After speaking, she glanced ahead and her mouth widened in astonishment.
The car had unexpectedly come to a stop in front of a hillside, surrounded by small groves on both sides. Under the gentle night breeze, the trees swayed, resembling drifting specters.
Looking further ahead, Coral noticed a slope about five or six meters away from the front of the car. If they were to continue forward, they would undoubtedly fall down the hillside.
Weren’t they driving smoothly on the Riville Highway? How did they suddenly end up here?
Coral felt a chill running down her spine, and fear appeared on her face. She couldn’t help but look at Leo.
Leo’s heart tightened as he realized what was happening. He looked at Coral calmly and said, “Don’t get out of the car, I’ll go check it out.”
After getting out of the car, Leo looked around but there were no sounds except for the rustling of leaves in the wind.
“If you’ve come here, why hide in the shadows? Don’t you feel cold?” Leo shouted.
As soon as he finished speaking, a figure appeared in front of him. In the faint moonlight, Leo could barely make out that it was a young man dressed all in white who was about his height.
Leo also understood that they had been “deceived” by this guy into coming here with Coral.
“Who are you?” Leo asked coldly.
The white-clad man turned slowly and Leo noticed that his face was very pale and sickly-looking.
“You don’t need to know who I am. Give me that gourd,” said the white-clad man in a hoarse tone with a commanding voice.
Ha! So he came to rob them.
Leo sneered, “Do you think I’ll give it to you?”
The white-clad man’s pale face stiffened for a moment and his voice became even colder, “No? Then die!”
Suddenly realizing something wasn’t right, Leo rushed forward but it was too late. The next second, Coral was dragged out by her neck from the passenger seat door by this guy.
Coral couldn’t breathe properly; she kicked her feet wildly but couldn’t break free from him at all.
Leo panicked and took one step forward shouting, “The gourd is inside my car! Let her go!”
The white-clad man grabbed hold of Coral’s box with one hand then threw her towards an uphill slope near their parked car.
What an unexpected move!
Leo changed direction immediately; Spiritual Power gathered explosively around his body as he shot towards where Coral fell down.
At the moment they reached the bottom of the hill, Leo held onto her and enveloped them both in a protective layer of Spiritual Power.
Next, they rolled down the slope like a snowball gaining momentum.
Throughout the descent, they encountered nothing but hard rocks. If it weren’t for the protection of their Spiritual Power, they would likely have met their end there.
