As this was Lucia’s territory, Jessica had to suppress her displeasure and said sarcastically, “Lucia, Bethany is now the wife of the Spencer family. You will now be related to the Spencer family. I am so envious.”
Jessica couldn’t believe that Bethany had caught the eye of the young master of the Spencer family.
Although the Spencer family was only a second-rate aristocratic family in Langstel, they were a second-rate aristocratic family in the Capital. Their overall strength was much stronger than that of the Henley family.
The Bright family could only be considered a third-rate aristocratic family at best. Being able to climb up to a second-rate aristocratic family in the Capital meant that they were truly lucky.
Lucia pretended humbly and said, “It’s all fate, Jessica. There’s nothing we can do about it. Bethany was born with good luck.”
Leo listened to Jessica and Lucia’s conversation and felt nauseous.
No wonder these two became so-called best friends; their values were exactly alike.
Jessica looked around before saying playfully, “Lucia, after Bethany gets married into their household, the status of your family in Langstel will definitely rise significantly. This small villa will look insignificant by then.”
“Why don’t you consider where I live? You know Cloud Dream Mountain Villa area? It is one of Langstel’s most luxurious villas.”
“You don’t know how good it feels breathing air there! I even invited geomancy masters over there! It is definitely one of Langstel’s geomancy treasures! Since moving into Cloud Dream Mountain Villa, my back doesn’t hurt anymore, and my legs aren’t sore anymore. I feel younger every day!”
“But having said that, it seems like no one has been selling their own villas recently at Cloud Dream Mountain Villa area. Even if you have money, you might not be able to buy it…”
Living at Cloud Dream Mountain Villa area was undoubtedly Jessica’s biggest bragging point.
Lucia felt embarrassed by what Jessica had just said, but since today was her daughter’s wedding banquet, she didn’t want any conflict with her friend. She laughed awkwardly, “Jessica, you can find yourself a seat first. I still need to attend other guests. Wait until I’m done, I’ll come find you for some chat later on.”
“Go ahead and do your thing, don’t be polite with me,” Jessica waved her hand generously.
After Lucia went to greet the other guests, Jessica led Martin and the others to the front row.
Jessica believed that because of her relationship with Lucia, she would surely arrange the best seats for her.
As she walked on the red carpet towards the front row, Jessica felt like a movie star receiving an award. She felt like she was shining brighter than anyone else in a crowd of millions.
The reason why Jessica brought her family so late was to show off in front of everyone and enjoy being in the spotlight.
Leo quietly reached out and pulled Sophia as they walked behind everyone else.
“What’s wrong?” Sophia whispered.
Leo replied softly, “I noticed that all of our seats have names written on them. Our seats seem to be at the back.”
Sophia furrowed her brows at Leo’s words. A sense of unease began to grow inside her heart.
Jessica was someone who cared deeply about saving face. If she couldn’t find her name in the first row…
Sure enough, after searching around for a while without finding their names among those seated at the front row, Jessica immediately exclaimed loudly, “Lucia! Where did you seat us? I can’t find my name!”
Because Jessica’s voice was too loud, all eyes turned towards her disapprovingly as people started whispering amongst themselves, “Who is this woman? Why is she making such a fuss? Doesn’t she have any manners?”
“Look at how tacky and vulgarly dressed she is! She probably snuck in here just for free food and drinks!”
“If I were part of the Bright family, I would kick this woman out right away! She’s really ruining everyone’s mood…”
All these comments made Sophia feel hot with anger rising up within herself. Hurriedly approaching Jessica from behind before pulling on her arm gently, she whispered, “Mom, please don’t shout so loudly here during someone else’s wedding reception… our seats are located towards back corner.”
Hearing that their seats were actually located near back corner made it feel like lightning had struck down upon poor old Jesscia. She was feeling insulted beyond belief and roared incredulously, “What?! How could our seats possibly be located near last row!? Lucia! Where are you?”
Sophia never expected her mother to start yelling even louder, making her feel even more embarrassed. She quickly tried to stop her, “Mom, please lower your voice. Why do you have to sit in the front row? Can’t we sit somewhere else?”
Jessica angrily shook off Sophia’s hand and shouted, “What do you mean ‘somewhere else’? Girl, don’t you understand that seating arrangement is a symbol of one’s status? Lucia and I have been good friends for years. Today is her daughter’s big day and I’m supposed to sit in some inconspicuous corner at the back? What kind of talk is that!?”
Feeling the piercing gazes from the guests around them, Sophia blushed with embarrassment and wished she could just disappear.
“I mean seriously, does this old woman have a mental problem or something? Miss, I suggest you take your mother to a mental hospital before she scares anyone else.”
“I recognize this beauty. Isn’t she Sophia who holds the title of Langstel’s number one beauty?”
“That’s right! I clearly remember four years ago when she married a freeloading guy.”
“I wonder if that freeloader husband of hers came today. I really want to see what kind of guy can marry Langstel’s number one beauty by living off his wife.”
“I heard that freeloader lives quite comfortably under the Henley family’s name, driving luxury cars and living in Cloud Dream Mountain villas…”
The endless gossiping made Leo clench his fists but he didn’t immediately lash out because these people were nothing but ants in his eyes.
Lucia was nowhere to be seen as Bethany and Mateo walked over towards Jessica.
“Jessica, today is my wedding day so please forgive any inconvenience caused,” Bethany forced a smile on her face as she spoke.
Jessica looked at Bethany with displeasure written all over her face, “Bethany, your mother and I have been good friends for many years now; our families are like relatives. Today I specially brought my family members here for your wedding yet you arranged us at such an insignificant spot. What does it mean exactly?”
Jessica spoke loudly on purpose hoping it would embarrass both Bethany and Lucia.
