Chapter 32

Book:The Cursed Love Published:2024-5-1

For the next few days, I kept hiding inside my room, waiting for Liam to come back. But no matter how many days I waited, I couldn’t even see a shadow of him!
He didn’t even pick up my phone!
After a week, I was feeling rather listless as I lay on the bed, staring at the ceiling blankly.
When will he be back? I knew I shouldn’t have said those words, and I knew he had been feeling embarrassed because of what had happened between the two of us, but that didn’t mean she should just hide his face like this! What if something happened to me all of a sudden? Who would save me then?
I blankly complained in my heart when I felt an urge to vomit out of the blue. The feeling of something climbing up from my stomach was so fast that I didn’t even have time to feel surprised before I rushed toward the bathroom and threw everything out from my mouth in the sink.
After that, I wiped my mouth as I took a few deep breaths. Why did I suddenly feel sick? I couldn’t make head and tail of it. Just as I was about to dwell on this matter, the door opened and Daleri walked inside. She looked exhausted.
The matter of vomiting suddenly flew outside the window. I frowned seeing her face and asked, “Why’re you tired?”
“I just,” Daleri paused and inhaled the oxygen to fill up her lungs before continuing. “I just found out something.”
My ears perked up at that. “What?”
“Barbara, she’s meeting George. Like right now!”
“Where!?” My knuckles cracked through my tightened fist as veins popped on my forehead. “Where is she?”
“We will go together!” Daleri said and grabbed my wrist. Just as she was about to walk out, she sniffed, and her brows furrowed. “Did you have an upset stomach?”
I was feeling embarrassed as I scratched my head. “I just vomited.”
Daleri’s eyes widened. Just as she was about to open her mouth and comment, someone frantically opened the bedroom door. A familiar servant entered the room, looking even more exhausted than Daleri. This was the same person who had approached her back then in the backyard. “Miss, George is in front of the lake! We have to catch them red handed!”
Daleri nodded. But this action confused me. She knew how much I had hated Barbara, but Liam was clearly incharge of this matter. Why would she approach me instead?
“Wait!” I had to voice out my doubts. “Why don’t we call Liam?”
“No time! We have to snap a few pics and send them to the boss. And aren’t you curious about Barbara and what they were talking about?”
When she said it that way, I couldn’t refute it. I instantly nodded and followed them outside. I was really curious about why these two people chose to meet at such a time.
We headed back to the same place where I had practiced my magic with Olivia and even had sex with Liam in the store room adjacent to the open area. But I couldn’t focus on my memories anymore since the thoughts of Barbara and George entered my head.
I imagined countless lines they could share with each other. And everytime a new scene popped up in my head, I would get anxious. Seeing my face, Daleri’s eyes softened. “Calm down girl, we are going there.”
Pursing my lips, I followed into the forest toward the lack I had never approached before. After reaching the destination, I heard the sound of water falling from a height. It was clearly the waterfall area along with a lake.
Daleri took my hand and dragged me behind a large boulder behind shrubs. I craned my neck to see two figures just a few feet away from me. Their voices were clear since we were sitting so near these people. I even felt my heartbeat speeding up in anxiety.
My breath slowed as I tried to minimize my sense of existence. That’s when I could focus on what they were talking about.
“Now what?” George’s hands went through his hair as he frowned, looking over at Barbara. His shoulders were tensed.
“Why are you so confused?” Barbara opened her bitter mouth and said, “Don’t you know our aim?”
Hearing that George calmed down. “Approaching Emily by hook or by crook, yeah?” At last, they finally admitted it. Although I didn’t feel very happy after hearing such a statement. Pursing my lips, I continued to watch them.
Barbara crossed her arms around her chest and glared at the man before her eyes.
The man squinted his eyes, seeming to control his anger. Then he said, “Let’s not get ahead of ourselves. Why are you saying about the aim all of a sudden? Don’t you know what the boss said?”
“Are we here to discuss what the boss said!?” Veins seemed to pop on Barbara’s forehead. She was clearly angry.
“Okay, calm down.” George gestured to her to calm down. “What I wanted to say is that I think someone’s onto us.”
She snorted. “Who else? It might be Liam.”
“And I don’t know how to handle the situation. I can’t even go outside my house! And Lucy is also locked up inside with me. I have to see her her stupid face everyday!”
Hearing a familiar name after a long time, my heartbeat sped up. The anxiety in my heart increased as sweat formed on my forehead. What happened to Lucy? Was she in any dangerous situation?
“Then why did you call me here?” Barbara’s eyes narrowed.
“I want out. I don’t care how, I just don’t want to do this anymore.” George said frantically as if he was in a hurry or something.
“Are you serious?” The girl got almost mad after hearing this sentence. She couldn’t believe her ears! “Boss will kill you!”
“What choice do I have? It’s either her or Liam! I would rather die from the hands of our boss, who would at least be a bit merciful.”
“Okay, calm down. Tell me what happened?” Barbara didn’t want George to go back on his words. So she seemed to change the tactics of pacifying the stupid person standing before her.
But to me, I didn’t even know what they were talking about. Wanting out? From where? From the hunter’s organization?
Did that mean George didn’t covet after the American crown?
I didn’t have an answer to any of these aspects. So I just continued to listen to them.
“I was in my office when suddenly I felt a suppressing energy. And you know who’s very expert in that, don’t you?”
Barbara nodded and pursed her lips.
The man in front of her wiped the sweat from his forehead and said, “It took me a lot of energy to get rid of that man. I don’t even know what he’s doing! I thought he loved Emily, and would be locked inside the palace. But who knew he would go around attacking people at random!”
“Then how did you handle the situation? Seeing the crown prince’s attitude this time, he wouldn’t have left you alone.”
George gritted his teeth and nodded. “I had to promise him that I’d not take a step out of my house and leave the hunter’s organization.”
“So is that why you wanted to leave?”
Hering that, the man almost got crazy. His eyes were restless as he glanced at her. “What do you think!?”
“Look, our aim’s to get Emily, and American crown is just a side business that will benefit us. The boss knows that this is a dangerous road for everyone who’s in this mission. Don’t you trust the leaderboard?”
“I don’t know, and I don’t care anymore! I’m afraid! Liam can kill me anytime.” He took a few shuddered breaths before continuing. “That guy just appears out of nowhere! I don’t know how he does that.”
At that moment, Barbara went silent as if she was contemplating something. Just that, an idea seemed to pop up in her head as she looked at the man in front of her with lit up eyes. Her lips curved up. “Let’s kill Lucy!”
George’s eyes widened at that. For a while, he seemed bewildered. “Kill Lucy?”
Even I was confused as hell. I felt like I heard the wrong thing. I shifted closer to hear clearly. I didn’t want to admit that they were thinking of killing my sister!
“You don’t understand. Even if the guy acts like he doesn’t care about Emily, don’t I have my eyes? I’ve seen the way he looks at her.” She sneered. “Emily’s a lucky bitch.”
Why were they talking about me? Didn’t they say they wanted to kill Lucy a while ago? Was that my imagination after all?
“But what does that have to do with our mission?” George was still confused as hell. Even I felt the same way.
“If Emily’s distressed, that crown prince would have no choice but to appear in front of the public again!”
If I’m distressed… why would I be distressed? I was bewildered. I stared blankly at the two figures before me in the dark as a thought popped up in my head, constantly trying to cloud my mind with it. I didn’t want to focus on that because it only said one thing: killing Lucy!
No! This can’t happen! I took a few deep breaths to calm myself. Perhaps these people weren’t talking about Lucy. I forced myself to listen to these people.
It seemed like George was having a hard time taking the decision, but he reluctantly agreed. “Fine, we will kill Lucy. I hate that bitch anyway.”
Kill Lucy… so I didn’t hear wrong. Emotions surged up my throat, blocking my voice. I couldn’t say a thing as tears formed in my eyes.
The two figures blurred, and I couldn’t focus on them anymore. As anxiety in my heart rose to a higher degree hearing someone’s plan to murder my sister, the magic running in my veins got triggered as a big wave of purplish energy burst out of me. It went straight for the people standing in front of me, attacking them with all its might!
Killing Lucy? How could they kill Lucy? They can’t! Thinking of this, the energy empowered more and more, circulating around me like a tornado.
Just when I was about to lose myself, I heard an anxious voice calling me out, snapping me out of my craziness. I blinked several times and focused toward the direction of that voice. It was Daleri. Blood appeared on the corner of her lips as she staggered toward me. Who knew when she had stepped away from me when I was having an episode? But at least she was safe.
Wait, did I just lose myself into my power again? Hearing that, my eyes widened. I darted my eyes toward the place where two people were just standing, discussing the murder of my sister.
A trace of fear engulfed my heart. I did it again, despite being warned continuously by Liam! Just why!?
I walked a few steps and almost fell on my knees in shock. Before my eyes, there was a dead body lying on the ground with hair scattered all over her face. Blood oozed out of her wounds as her eyes were opened wide in fear. Her breath had stopped.
Seeing that dead face, my pupils contracted. “No!”
Before I could do anything, I heard a shuffling sound. It was George. The corner of his lips were seeping out blood as he looked at me with squinted eyes. Then he fished out his phone. His hands shook as he dialled a number. “She has killed Barbara, a council member. I’m a witness. Grab her!” He hung up the call.
Then he dialled another number before I could open my mouth. I saw his lips curving up to form a dangerous smile as he spoke to someone on the phone. “Guess what your wife did this time!?” His eyes were opened wide in madness. “She killed Barbara. She has become a demon! Yes, you heard it right! She killed her brutally! I saw it with my own eyes!” George laughed madly. “Do you think you can stop that from happening? It was inevitable! Do you see what’s the consequences of stopping us? Emily’s gonna end up as the boss has planned, and not even you can stop it! Everything, including Barbara’s death today, had been planned! I don’t care if I die today, but I’ll fulfil the mission!” He seemed to have gotten insane as he continued to blabber. “You thought I’d give up? In your dream!” He spat the last word through his gritted teeth as he threw the phone away.
