Chapter 60 Making amends

Clara
I won’t deny the fact that my heart is hammering in chest right now. I have got Damien by my side and he is holding my hand. I might be nervous but I am not scared. I want to be confident while doing this. Damien even told me that he wouldn’t mind if I didn’t go with him because he doesn’t want me to go through this emotional rollercoaster.
Damien cares so much about my health and now that I am pregnant, he really doesn’t want me to go through anything that will stress me. That’s why he offered that I stay home with the others so that he could handle this on his own but I refused to stay behind, not because I want to be stubborn but I want us to stand together while facing this situation. I am not going to just stay home waiting for Damien to do this for us on his own.
Jason comes out the house on check on what’s going on. He looks really shocked to see Damien and me. I don’t what has shocked him the most. Whether the fact that no one was expecting us to be here at this time or that Damien decided to show up for once at our house.
He walks towards us and orders the guards to disperse from us.
“Clara, you come back home,” he says, sounding more confused than happy to see me. His gaze travels to Damien and then back to me.
“Is father inside?” I ask him.
“Yes, but he is in a meeting with Alpha Liam,” he replies, his gaze shifting back to Damien.
“Liam? Why?” I inquire.
“Well, Liam is the one who told us that Damien had taken you to his home during his party so that just wanted to meet him and talk to him about it,” he replies.
“Why would he do that? Liam has nothing to do with this. He shouldn’t even bother him,” I say.
“Tell him that we are here so he should come talk to us instead. We will tell him whatever he wants to know,” Damien says. Jason first looks at me and then at Damien before nodding and going back into the house.
After talking to Jason the other day after dad had brought me back home from Damien’s house, I think his mindest towards Damien changed. I don’t see his anger towards him like I see in father’s eyes. Well father has his reasons to hate him but he has never done anything wrong to Jason.
After a few minutes, father comes dashing out of the house. Alpha Liam comes behind him. Everyone looks very shocked to see us. Well, no one was expecting us so no offense.
Father’s eyes widen when he sees me but then burn with rage when he notices Damien standing beside me and holding my hand. Liam looks cool only that he looks a bit confused to see us. He told us to go and not even think about looking back or even giving it a thought but we aren’t looking back. We have come to solve this issue.
Father approaches us and stops I front of us. His gaze on Damien is so intense. I can feel the heat and the deafening silence between us getting very uncomfortable.
“Father, we’ve come to talk to you,” I finally say, breaking the thick silence.
“Talk about what?” he asks in an ice cold tone that makes me shudder.
“Can we talk inside, please?” I ask him. There are so many people outside. Other pack members are going to show up here and create an audience to this talk which is something I don’t want. Father looks around while thinking about what I have asked him.
“Okay,” he replies. Whoa! That was easy. I didn’t expect him to easily agree to letting Damien into his house. Has father gone soft or has Liam said something to him?
Once inside the house, father, Jason and Liam sit down. Something about Liam’s presence gives me confidence and I don’t want him to excuse himself from this meeting. I stand closer to Damien and hold his hand tightly.
“Have a sit,” father says while gesturing to the couch opposite the chair he is sitting in. I wasn’t going to sit if they hadn’t offered Damien a sit. They should treat Damien the same way they would treat me because he is now a son in this house though father is denying it.
“So you stole my daughter from the party yesterday,” father says to Damien. Well, this is not a good beginning of the conversation but there is nothing I do about it. Damien wanted to talk with father so I will let him talk. I wrap my hand around Damien’s arm to show how stick to my mate I am.
“I didn’t step her. I took her on her own will,” Damien responds.
“Ofcourse she agreed, and Liam here helped the two of you meet and elope,” father says and then rubs his forehead thoughtfully. I turn to look at Liam and find him shaking his head. He has a hidden smile on his lips. What’s going on here? Father isn’t backing at Damien, and Liam looks amused. Am I not getting something here?
“Tell me what has brought you here with my daughter, Damien. I am one hundred percent sure that you haven’t brought her back to me. Well, she doesn’t belong to me anymore. Fate stole her from me and then put her in my greatest enemy’s arms.
“I came here to ask you for your daughter’s hand in marriage,” Damien says. My heart skips a beat. Marriage? Did I hear that well. The statement seems to have shocked the hell out of everyone in this room. Everyone except father who just nods as if he was expecting that. This is not the father I know. He should be on his feet right now throwing things about or strangling Damien’s neck, but he just nodded? Am I seeing right or am I imagining everything.
“I knew this moment would come when I got to know that the mom goddess had chosen my immortal enemy to be my daughter’s mate. I hate you so much but I can’t change fate. I even convinced Clara to Reject you and gave her thousands of reasons why she should, but she refused. That showed me how much she loves you and how committed she is to your relationship,” father says. I am literally frozen in my tracks. I mean what on earth happened to Alpha Fabian who hates Damien so much and can’t have a calm conversation with him even for a second?
“You know, Alpha Liam has been here since morning. He is newly engagement and had a mate to attend to plus a pack to run but he decided to come here to convince me to let the two of you be together. He wants me to forget what happened years ago and let the two of you be together in happiness,” father adds.
Liam has been here all this time talking to father about Damien and I? The room I have in my heart for Liam grows bigger knowing that he has such a big heart.
“But I can’t forget it. It happened and the ugly memories are buried inside my mind and they can’t be erased. I know I did some hateful things to Damien and his family and they also can’t be erased from his memory and that of his family. I can’t lie to you or myself that I will be able to be friends with Damien but fate brought him back into my life for a reason. There was some unfinished business between us that has to be settled. If not now, then it will never be settled,” father says.
“What unfinished business are talking about?” Damien inquires from him, his face frowning in confusion. Father gets up from his seat and approaches us, his eyes fixed on Damien. He then holds out his hand I front of Damien. For a second, I thought he was going to hit him.
“What is this?” Damien inquires, while narrowing his eyes and looking cautiously at the hand offered infront of him.
“Welcome to the family, son,” father says. Damien’s eyes grow unbelievably wide. My jaw literally drops to the floor. I must be seeing and hearing things. Surely, father isn’t making a peace offering to Damien, is he? Otherwise, why would he want to shake hands with him? Is this some kind of trap?
I look around me just to make sure everyone is seeing what I am seeing. Jason looks equally surprised but Liam doesn’t. Is this what they have been talking about since morning? What on earth did he tell him to change his mind?
“What do you want from me, Fabian?” he inquires from him while looking at him with a curious eyes.
“I want you to take good care of my daughter and give me grandchildren as soon as possible,” dad replies.
“Someone should warn me if this is a trap otherwise I am going to take the risk,” Damien says while offering his hand to shake father’s.
“Just moments ago you loathed me so much and now, you want me to take care of your daughter and father your grandchildren? What did Liam tell you to change your mind?” Damien inquires while shaking father’s hand.
“It doesn’t matter what he said, you know. What matters is that is that he made me realize that holding onto this enmity will bring us no good. Actually all this is just hindering my daughter’s happiness. I want to close this chapter and see what our destiny has prepared for us in the next chapter,” father says and then a smile spreads on his lips. Father smiling at Damien? This is novel! This is a first!
“Talking of destiny, you are already going to be a grandfather. The children will be happy when their grandfather and their father are able to get a long,” I say and all eyes are turned to me.
“Are you pregnant, Clara? How far? I mean, how long have you been hiding this from me?” father inquires from me.
“Not long. I only found out two days ago,” I reply.
“That is such great news! You shouldn’t have kept from me. Oh! We have to hold a baby shower soon,” father says, looking very thoughtful.
“Come on! It’s too early. Even my baby bump hasn’t started showing,” I complain but father waves me off.
“That doesn’t matter. What matters is that you are going to be a mother and I am am going to have grandchildren. That’s a cause to celebrate, right?” he says and Liam nods in agreement.
“Congratulations, little sis. I still can’t believe that you are going to have children before me. Jeez! I should start being serious about the topic of fatherhood. I am sure you are going to be a great mother, and with Damien by your side, I am sure everything will be fine,” Jason says while wearing a beaming grin on his face
“Why would you hold a baby shower before the wedding?” Liam chimes in.
“Yeah, you are right,” father says while rubbing his chin thoughtfully. “But we need an engagement party before the wedding.”
“It doesn’t matter. We can have just one event,” I say.
“You know I won’t let my daughter just go without holding an engagement party to give you away to my newest friend, so I insist on holding the two parties,” father says.
“I want to organize the wedding with my family so that the ceremony can be held at my home,” Damien says, and then adds, “I very much insist on that.”
“You can hold the wedding party but I insist on holding the engagement and engagement party,” father says and everyone laughs.
Father looks so happy. Everyone looks so happy. This feels like a dream. It is just too good to be true. I don’t know whether it is the news about my pregnancy or the general situation that has brought all this happiness.
The grin on my face is no where near comparable. This is my dream come true. I will interrogate Liam later about what he did to dad’s mind but right now, I just want to enjoy the moment. I lean against Damien’s arm and watch the happy chanting go on between these very important men in my life.
I can’t believe this is happening! Ofcourse I still have doubts that father isn’t doing this whole heatedly but I haven’t seen him this excited in such a long time. Oh, god! Please let it not be a dream. This is marvelous! It is a miracle! I think the moon goddess is finally answered my prayers.
