Chapter 709: Fake Boyfriend

In the clothing store, the two salesgirls couldn’t help but admire Leo as he walked out wearing the clothes. Their eyes lit up with praises.
Their compliments weren’t insincere; Leo’s height and appearance were already impressive, coupled with the unique temperament of a cultivator. Wearing a suit made him not just handsome but also eye-catching.
Madame Godwin also smiled, nodding subconsciously. Even from her perspective as a police officer, Leo, in a suit, was undeniably charismatic.
They spent over an hour shopping in the mall, emerging only when their hands were laden with bags of clothes.
Outside, Leo couldn’t help but ask, “Can you finally tell me what all these clothes are for?”
After Leo finished speaking, he noticed Madame Godwin’s cheeks blush slightly, and her expression became a bit shy.
Such a display of feminine charm was a stark contrast to her usual tough image.
“Are you… blushing?” Leo couldn’t help but show an amused expression.
Madame Godwin quickly regained her composure, glared at Leo, and said, “Stop talking nonsense. Today’s invitation wasn’t just for shopping and dinner; I need your help with two things.”
“The first thing is, the day after tomorrow is my grandfather’s eightieth birthday. Help me figure out the best birthday gift for him.”
Leo thought for a moment and replied, “When choosing a gift, it’s best to start with his hobbies. What does your grandfather like?”
“Hobbies?” Madame Godwin frowned in thought, “My grandfather’s hobbies are quite broad. If I had to pick the favorite, it would be jade antiques and calligraphy. I considered buying jade antiques, but I’m clueless about them and afraid of getting a fake.”
Madame Godwin’s concern was valid. Old Mr. Godwin’s eightieth birthday was a significant event. Many dignitaries would attend, and if she gifted a fake, it would be embarrassing.
“Likes jade antiques… then he probably likes jadeite too?”
Madame Godwin nodded, “Yes, I remember my grandfather has a jadeite ring that he often plays with.”
Madame Godwin’s grandfather made a fortune in business and later entered politics. He walked through storms and waves in both the business and political worlds, making him a legendary figure.
“Great, if he likes jadeite, it’s easy. Leave the birthday gift to me. What’s the second thing?”
“For the second thing…” Madame Godwin’s cheeks reddened again.
Seeing Leo’s amused expression, she bit her lip and blurted out, “While you’re here, I… I want you to pretend to be my boyfriend!”
“What!?” Leo couldn’t help but be surprised. No wonder Madame Godwin took him to buy a suit.
“Why are you so surprised?” Madame Godwin looked around nervously, seemingly afraid of someone overhearing.
“Miss Godwin, I am a married man, and you know that,” Leo shrugged.
“What’s wrong with being married? This isn’t Langstel. Who would know you’re married?” Madame Godwin rolled her eyes. “Just tell me, will you help me with this favor?”
“The reason for doing this?” Leo naturally wanted to help Madame Godwin with her request, but he needed to know the reason first.
Madame Godwin explained, “The reason is simple. In here, my family and the Jones family are old friends. Blair Jones just returned from studying abroad. Both my family and the Jones family are eager to match me with Blair. However, I have no romantic feelings for Blair whatsoever. To put an end to my family and the Jones family’s matchmaking attempts, I told my family yesterday that I already have a boyfriend.”
Madame Godwin spoke with a helpless expression. Being pressured into marriage wasn’t a pleasant experience.
“So, your grandfather and family want to meet your fake boyfriend, which is me, right?” Leo chuckled.
“Smart!” Madame Godwin snapped her fingers. “Blair also wants to meet you. He thinks my boyfriend is a fictional character.”
“That’s the situation. I know you won’t stand idly by.” Madame Godwin looked at Leo with hopeful eyes.
Leo’s gaze involuntarily wandered over Madame Godwin, pondering if there were any benefits to being her fake boyfriend.
Madame Godwin’s police intuition was keen, and she immediately guessed Leo’s thoughts. She warned, “Don’t get any funny ideas. Don’t take advantage of this situation, or else, hmph!”
Madame Godwin playfully waved her fists in front of Leo.
“Where are you thinking? I’ve already told you I’m a married man. I’m afraid of you taking advantage of me.” Leo put on a protective expression, as if he were a young boy out in the world.
“Oh, stop pretending!” Madame Godwin rolled her eyes. “By the way, even though it’s just acting, don’t call me Madame Godwin in front of my family and the Jones family. Just call me Amelia. Also, if necessary, holding hands is allowed.”
Leo made an “OK” gesture. “Don’t worry, I’m a professional actor. Now, should we go for a big meal?”
“Let’s go. You’ll get to meet Blair on the way.”
Mentioning Blair made Madame Godwin’s eyes reveal a hint of helplessness. She knew Blair had strong feelings for her, but matters of the heart weren’t one-sided; you couldn’t force them.
Traveling all the way to Jingbei, they couldn’t miss the nationally and internationally renowned Peking Duck.
The most famous place for roast duck was undoubtedly the Drunken Immortal Pavilion.
After loading the bags into the car, Leo drove with Madame Godwin to the Drunken Immortal Pavilion.
It was lunchtime, and the restaurant was at its peak. When Leo and Madame Godwin entered, the main hall was already full, and there were even people waiting in line.
This demonstrated how popular the Drunken Immortal Pavilion was.
Madame Godwin glanced at the crowded hall and said, “Leo, let’s go to the second floor. Blair and the others have already reserved a table.”
Heading to the second floor, there were already two men and a woman sitting at a six-person table near the window.
One of the men was quite handsome, wearing a casual suit with a tie, giving off an air of a white-collar professional.
The other man was young, still retaining a youthful charm, probably a high school student.
The woman was around the same age as Madame Godwin, sporting a bobbed haircut with dimples on both cheeks. When she smiled, it conveyed a sweet feeling.
“Amelia, over here!” The woman with short hair stood up when she saw Madame Godwin, smiling and waving.
Madame Godwin walked over and said with a smile, “Erica, it’s been a long time.”
