Clara
When the footsteps reach the door, my heart is pumping loudly in my ears. I haven’t thought of anything wise to do to hide the situation in here. The door is open, someone is inside. If he is found here, he will get into trouble.
Damn it! He should have hidden, but he stays there transfixed to the ground with his eyes fixed to the door in anticipation of whoever might be too there.
The first thing that I see coming through the door is a face peeping through. It’s a girl. She looks equally young as the boy here. She then enters slowly while looking around suspiciously.
I let out a heavy breath that I had no idea I was even blowing. She doesn’t look like trouble to me. If she is then, at least she is not one of them. I don’t even know what to call them. I don’t even know their names.
“Who are you?” I ask her. Well, that is the most relevant question that I can form in my head right now.
“Emma. Who are you?” she inquires while looking at the both of us in confusion.
“Am Clara and I am not supposed to be here,” I respond. At least that is what comes into my head. If these turned humans are able to roam around in this place then there must be something wrong with the supervision.
“Am Justin and we don’t have any time for further introduction. We need to get out of here,” he replies with a serious tone that doesn’t resemble the boy whose jaw I almost broke a few minutes ago.
“Yes. I know you are also not supposed to be here. You can come with us,” I tell her.
“How are you going to get out of here?” she asks.
“We don’t know but we shall find a way once we are out of this room,” I tell her.
“There are so many others here. We can’t leave them behind,” she says.
“We can’t take all of them. It will be impossible for us to get out of here. Maybe when we manage to get out, we can get help and come back for them,” I tell her.
She first looks thoughtfully at me and then at Justin. She later nods in approval.
“Let’s go now,” Justin says.
We all head to the door and look out for anyone. It is just a long empty gravely quiet corridor. After making sure that the coast is clear, we head out of the room.
“Give me the key,” I whisper to Justin who just narrows his eyes at me in confusion.
“What do want it for?” he whispers back.
“Just give it to me,” I respond. He shrugs and digs into his pocket. He retrieves a single key and hands it to me.
I then close the door and lock it. At least that will give them something to do when they come back and will probably buy us some time. I put the key safely in my pocket and look at them.
“It will buy us some time,” I answer their unspoken question.
“Let’s go,” I tell them.
I look on the left and then the right side of the corridor. “Where do we go now?” I ask them.
“I came from this side. I don’t think we should go there. I think that is where all the others are,” Justin replies referring to the right side.
“I think we should go this side,” I say referring to the left side. There is nothing to expect where we are going but as long as this long corridor ends with no dead end, we shall find our way out of this.
We run quietly through the corridor. I can race fast but these two are newly turned. They can not tunas quick as an average Vampire but they are not that slow either. So we dash through the long corridor of closed doors. I try to keep my mind off wondering who or what could be behind them.
If I get out of here, the first thing I will do is find Damien. He is the only person that can help or these newly turned human beings that are being kept in here.
I can’t go to my father’s place, I mean home. What about Justin and Emma and all the others we are going to leave behind? It wouldn’t help them if I just go home. Damien might have a solution for them.
What if Damien is on his way to rescue me? What if he has already reached? I shake the thoughts off my mind. I can’t think like that. I can’t just stay here and wait for him to come for me. I don’t want him to fall into this trap. If he is on his way, maybe I can run into him when I manage to get out.
There is a long trail of stairs at the end of the corridor. We walk down the stairs quickly but they seem to never end. At the end of the stairs, there is another corridor. I hope we are not just walking through a maze and only ending up where we came from. Maybe all the corridors in this house just look the same. The house looks really old. Some places look like they haven’t been torched for long.
If it wasn’t for all the turned humans, who would be occupying this house? Those two Vampires that locked me up? Are there some more Vampires like them in here or they are the only ones? Damien told me that he is a bloodline Vampire. I think those two are also bloodlines, otherwise how would to they be able to turn the humans?
I am almost tempted to open these doors and check for what could inside. This house is creepy enough, I don’t want to scare the little confidence left in me by opening those doors.
There is a door at the end of the corridor. I have promised myself not to open any doors but at least it is not a dead end.
“There must be a way through the door,” Justin says while reaching for the door. Surprisingly, the door is not locked. Normally I would think that is a trap but I don’t have to weigh my opinions. It doesn’t look like I have any options either.
“There are more stairs after the door. God! I hope we aren’t just running through a maze of stairs. How big can this house possibly be to have all these stairs?
We go down the stairs, and the further we go, the darker it becomes. There are no lights in this part of the house. I don’t think there is anyone down here. Actually, I don’t think anyone has been down here for a long time. Every where I pass, layer of cobwebs and dust is added to me. I don’t feel any good about continuing this path.
We have come a long way down here and we can’t just give up. We can’t just go back up there where we have come from. What if we just end up getting lost in this horrifying house?
We look around us for any way out. It is just darkness and doors. Why so many doors? I might be able to see in this kind of darkness but I don’t know about the others. Human beings have very poor vision in darkness but Vampires can see clearly through this. I don’t think they are badly off however.
We dash through the dark corridor to the end. Well, this looks like a dead end to me. There are no more long staircases. It is just a wall. In this darkness, I can’t even tell clearly if it is a wall or a door.
Justin boldly goes ahead to touch it.
“It is wooden. I mean it doesn’t feel like a wall. I think it is a door,” he says. I reach for it and try to also feel for something like a doorknob. Something that we can use to unlock the door but it just feels like bars running diagonally across the wall or door, I don’t know.
“I don’t think it is a door,” Emma says. “It might have been a door but it was blocked. These bats were probably placed there to close the way.”
Yeah, that makes sense. The horizontal bars I just felt must have been placed there to block the way.
“What do we do now?” I ask.
“We need to remove the bars,” Justin replies.
“But how?” Emma inquires.
“This house looks really old. The door must be old too. We might be able to break it but the bars don’t feel that old. I think they haven’t been there for long,” Justin replies.
“But how do we remove the bars?” Emma inquires.
“Pluck them off,” he replies.
“What? I don’t think we have that strength,” I say.
“We won’t just stand here and expect them to just call off. We have to try,” he replies. This guy seems more intelligent than I thought.
We all reach for the bats and try pulling them off. They seem firmly placed. We try our best but we just end a panting mess.
We can’t manage to remove the bars on our own. We need more power. Then I remember! My wolf is a strong warrior. She might help us.
“I know what might help,” I say.
“You do?” Justin asks.
“What?” Emma inquires.
“My wolf. She is really strong. She might help us,” I reply.
“What!” Emma exclaims.
“She is a werewolf. She means that she is going to transform into a wolf,” Justin explains to her. Smart guy, huh? Emma doesn’t say anything. She must be thinking about what Justin just told her.
Luckily, I can remove my clothes and transform here because of the darkness. I set my wolf free and she comes out lively and ready to kick ass.
She reaches for the door and plucks off the bars in a swift move. She pounces through the door, crushing it to the ground.
Light!
It is not daylight but moonlight, but at least it is bright out here. I walk out and look back at my fellows who are just staring wide-eyed at my wolf. What? Haven’t they ever seen a wolf before.
“Whoa!” Justin exclaims.
“You are in there? I mean like you are a real werewolf?” Emma stammers in shock. I can’t believe these guys. I nod at my clothes.
“Oh,” Emma says and picks them up. She folds them well and holds them in her hands.
“Let’s get hell out of here,” Justin says and they both walk out.
