On my way home, I don’t feel at ease having left Clara behind. It is her home anyway. Why should I worry when she is with her family? I tell myself as I enter the house.
Everyone is awake and that is surprising. We didn’t spend a lot of time out last night so I guess that’s why they are up so early. I walk past Raul and Katherine who are sitting on a couch beside Logan.
Okay, it is really normal for them to be awake at the same time at this early hour but the silence and the uneaseness on their faces is not normal.
“Hi guys. Is there something that I should worry about because your quietness is creeping me out?” I ask them.
Luther and Victoria are standing behind the couch that they are sitting on. They look pretty suspicious too. What the hell is going on here?
“We received three more victims this morning. Two boys and a girl. They were very badly injured,” Orpheus replies.
“What?” I burst out in shock. Fuck! What the hell is happening?
“Where did you find them?” I inquire.
“At our door step,” Orpheus replies.
“Who brought them here?” I inquire, my fists clenching in fury.
“We don’t know. We just found them there this morning. It was around four o’clock in the morning when I was returning home,” Orpheus replies.
“This is not normal. This shouldn’t be happening. We can’t be receiving turned people every day. Who the hell is turning them? What about the victims who aren’t brought here?” I ask, feeling incredibly angry at the moment.
“We don’t know the answers to those questions now but we need to figure it out if the council is not willing to carry out it’s duties,” Luther replies.
“I am sure the Caitiffs are the major suspects in this case. They used to turn people long time ago but why would they do it now?” Raul says.
“To cause trouble ofcourse. Why else would they do that? When the humans discover that their people are disappearing mysteriously then there will be havoc. We will go back to the old days where humans and vampires hunted each other,” Victoria says.
“We all know that the Caitiffs are just rogues who are up to no good. So they just woke up one night and decided to just start transforming human beings,” Raul says with a shrug.
“I want to check on them. Where did you put them?” I inquire.
“I will take you there,” Orpheus offers.
The victims are in a really bad shape. They will be able to recover once their vampire blood starts to Dominate their bodies. Right now, they are just helpless turned human beings.
Shit! I can’t let this keep happening. Who knows what we will receive tomorrow? Five? Ten? The whole town?
“I am going to the Ventrue headquarters right now,” I say, shocking Orpheus who is standing beside me.
“Are you serious?” he inquires from me.
“Yes, I am. I have to inform the council about the situation. They have to do something about this,” I reply.
“Okay, can I go with you?” he asks me.
“Yes,” I respond and head back to the living room.
Everyone looks anxiously at us when we enter the living room.
“I am going to the Ventrue headquarters to report the situation,” I tell them.
“Right now?” Victoria asks me.
“Yes,” I respond.
“I am going with you,” Luther offers and I nod.
“Let’s go,” I tell them while heading out.
I think this day is just going to continue being shitty. After talking to Clara about our literally forbidden relationship, now we have a situation of newly turned Vampires.
Reaching inside the building, Mithras, Cassius and Celeste are around. That is good enough for me. It will be better if they are all around.
“I have something urgent that I want to talk to you about,” I tell Mithras who just looks bored sitting on an old couch.
“What is it?” he asks me. Celeste is standing beside the couch he is sitting on and Cassius is glaring at me like it is the first time he has ever seen me. It hasn’t been so long since the last time he saw me. Why does he look do damn surprised?
“We have been receiving newly turned victims in our house. Today we received three new ones and they are four so far. I think this is something you guys should give thorough attention,” I tell them.
“We have heard of the cases. You are not the only ones who have been receiving victims. The cases are becoming rampant every single day,” Celeste says.
“What have you done to stop this?” I ask them.
“Trust me. We are doing our best to figure out the situation. At first we thought that they were the Caitiffs doing it, but it hasn’t been long since the council punished them for that. We even put spies to monitor their movements but they have nothing to do with this,” Mithras says.
“If it isn’t the rogues, then who is behind all this?” I ask them.
“That is what we are still trying to figure out. Once we find the culprits, then we will be able to end this. We have a lot of victims in here and we are seriously concerned,” Cassius says.
I run my hands through my hair in frustration and close my eyes. I knew there has to be more victims than the four at home. If there are a lot of victims in this place, then the situation must be way worse than I thought.
“We are going to release our best detectives. The bad thing is that they are not in the country right now but I have sent for them. When they are here, they will take care of the situation and the culprits will not hide for long,” Celeste tells me.
“But before they arrive, we need to do something ourselves so that the cases don’t multiply. We need to keep the situation under control,” Cassius says.
“You should also keep watch. This problem is going to affect all the vampires if we don’t end it. Report any clues or suspensions that you get,” Mithras tells us and I nod.
We leave without knowing who exactly are turning people or what their motives are. Whoever those detectives Celeste was talking about, I hope they do a good job of getting the culprits.
Reaching home, I get upstairs to my room and try to put my mind at rest. The case of turned human beings is still pressing on my mind. Clara not being here with me is what is stressing me more
Fuck! I really want to see her. It doesn’t matter whether I spent the whole night with her. I can never get enough of being with her and just want her to be around me all the time.
I wonder what she is doing right now. Having a hot gossip with her girlfriend, Emily? I am pretty sure I would be among the major topics for the gossip. I wonder what she says about me. Does her face heat up and her cheeks turn cherry red at the thought of?
Maybe she is not with her friend. Maybe her father is giving me her a hard time about me not attending the party.
Wait! Maybe she isn’t home. Maybe she passed out in front of another stranger just like last time she received her first heat waves.
Shit!
Why does the thought of Clara having passed out give me an uneasy feeling? Fuck! Something is wrong!
I can’t get myself to calm down. My body doesn’t normally react like this to mere imaginations. Something must be wrong with Clara. I can sense it. I think that is because of the mate bond. I can be able to sense when my partner is in trouble.
My Auspex abilities can also sense that there is something wrong with someone really close to me. A sharp pain shoots through my head down my spine. Fuck! This is too much.
I dash downstairs, taking three stairs at a time. I can feel the rush in my body and the unbeatable urge to go to her home and check if she is there and alright. Fuck! What would I say if I reached there? She is probably not in her room at this time of the day. She might not even be in the damn house.
“What is the matter,” Katherine inquires from me when I jump into the living room like a mad man.
“I am going to see Clara. Something is wrong with her. I can feel it,” I respond.
“What? I mean, are you sure?” she asks with wide eyes.
“Yes, I can feel it through our mate bond. It is instinctive,” I reply and then dash past her, not feeling like wasting any time explaining it to her
“Wait! Where are you going?” she asks me.
“To her house. Where else?” I reply.
“Whose house?” Luther asks while walking to me.
“To Clara’s house. Something must have happened to her. I need to go check on her right now,” I reply.
“If she is at her home, then there is nothing to worry about. Her family will take care of her,” Luther tells me.
“I can’t just stay here telling myself that someone is going to take care of her. What if she is not with her family? What if she is not home?” I ask him.
“You can’t just go to Fabian’s house at this hour of the day. You will get yourself into trouble. I am going with you,” Luther says. I don’t care about getting into fucking trouble as long as I make sure that Clara is fine.
We leave the house and pass through the woods where if it not shinning brightly. Nearing Clara’s home, I catch her scent. She was here in the woods. I follow her scent until it gets mixed with another scent.
“Vampires!” I say. Luther has caught the scent of the Vampires. The scent is very familiar.
Fuck this! Why would they capture Clara?
