Chapter 673: Write an IOU

Book:The All-powerful Son-In-Law Published:2024-6-3

“Get lost, what the hell is going on in your head? Do you think I wouldn’t know?” Mignon kicked out, catching Ethan off guard.
Ethan screamed, rolling backward, provoking laughter from Mignon’s henchmen.
Once Ethan managed to get up, Mignon played with the dagger in his hand, then said coldly, “Due to your false information, my brothers and I took a beating. You must compensate. Additionally, I can help you continue dealing with Leo, but the reward needs to increase accordingly.”
“Here’s the deal, compensation plus the reward. I’ll give you a friendly discount-thirty thousand dollars, not a cent less!”
Hearing the figure of thirty thousand, Ethan couldn’t help but widen his eyes. Now he deeply understood how cunning and ruthless these underworld figures could be.
Thirty thousand dollars was a considerable sum for Ethan, who currently had no job.
“Mignon, I don’t have that much money,” Ethan said with a distressed expression.
“Damn, no money?” Mignon stared, “No money and you want someone to help you? Are you out of your mind?”
A henchman whispered something in Mignon’s ear, and Mignon’s eyes lit up.
“No money, huh? Simple, write an IOU, interest will accrue. Whenever you have the money, you pay back.” Mignon said, instructing one of his men to fetch paper and pen, handing it to Ethan.
Even if Ethan were foolish, he knew Mignon was about to lend him money with a high-interest rate. He dared not write the IOU.
“Mignon, I don’t want to deal with Leo anymore.”
After Ethan spoke, he turned to leave. However, a henchman had already blocked Ethan from behind, rhythmically tapping a steel pipe in his hand.
Mignon smirked, “You think this is a temple? You come and go as you please. Don’t want to write an IOU? Well, leave one of your hands here.”
Mignon signaled to his henchmen.
A henchman quietly informed Mignon of something, and Mignon’s eyes brightened.
“No money, huh? Easy, write an IOU, the interest will accrue. Whenever you have the money, you pay back.” Mignon said, instructing one of his men to fetch paper and pen, handing it to Ethan.

Mignon signaled to his henchmen.
The henchman reached under the table and pulled out a gleaming machete. The other three henchmen simultaneously stood up, with two of them restraining Ethan, while the third grabbed and twisted Ethan’s right hand.
Ethan was on the verge of wetting himself, realizing that money was nothing compared to the importance of his right hand. He quickly pleaded, “Mignon, I’ll write an IOU, I’ll write an IOU!”
The henchmen loosened their grip on Ethan.
Ethan took the paper and pen, scribbling a messy IOU for thirty thousand dollars to Mignon. In the lending business, Mignon was a professional. He even made Ethan press his fingerprint on the signature line.
After keeping the IOU, Mignon’s face once again revealed a smile. “Ethan, don’t act like you’ve suffered a great injustice. Taking people’s money to resolve their troubles is my Mignon’s specialty. My reputation is top-notch. Let me ease your mind a bit. My cousin is probably arriving in Green Spring tomorrow. As long as he’s willing to help, Leo, that useless dog, will definitely turn into a dead dog.”
Seeing Mignon’s confidence, Ethan couldn’t help but ask, “Mignon, who is this cousin of yours, some kind of legendary figure?”
Mignon proudly uttered four words, “Black Dragon!”
“Black Dragon? Wow…” Ethan couldn’t help but draw in a sharp breath.
The name Black Dragon was well-known to Ethan, a prominent figure in the gray area, one of the top players. Ethan never expected that the local bully in the small Green Spring city would be distantly related to Black Dragon.
If it’s really as Mignon said, and Black Dragon is willing to intervene, not to mention a mere useless son-in-law, even the Henley family, a second-rate family of Langstel, could be wiped out in an instant if Black Dragon wished so.
Ethan’s astonished expression pleased Mignon. He patted Ethan’s shoulder in a friendly manner and said, “Ethan, don’t fret about the money. You’ve spent it wisely. Okay, now you can scram.”
In such a den of wolves, Ethan dared not linger. He quickly forced a smile and turned away.
“Mignon, will Black Dragon really come to Green Spring?”
“Of course, didn’t Mignon just say Black Dragon is his cousin?”
“I can’t believe it. If Black Dragon takes action, not only a freeloader like Leo but even flattening Green Spring would be a piece of cake.”
“I never thought Mignon is Black Dragon’s cousin. I’m starting to admire Mignon more and more.”
The compliments from his subordinates pleased Mignon. He continued munching on sunflower seeds and casually said, “Black Dragon’s ancestral home is right here in Green Spring. He’s coming to Green Spring this time to pay respects to his ancestors. As long as I ask for his help, that freeloader Leo is as good as dead!”

In the Gunter family living room,
Gordon sat in the main seat, and the younger generations of the Gunter family were seated on the sofas on either side. Although the Gunter family wasn’t considered a prominent clan, their numbers were relatively large.
“Alex, what’s going on with Jessica? It’s this late, and she hasn’t come home yet?” Gordon’s face showed an imposing expression as he scanned the people on the sofa. His gaze finally stopped at Alex, asking.
Before Alex could respond, Paige interjected, “Dad, in my opinion, Jessica is playing the high and mighty. Ever since she married into the Langstel the Henley family, she’s been looking down on us relatives more and more.”
“Dad, we’re going to hold a grand ancestral worship ceremony in the Gunter family this time. It’s such an important event, and they still haven’t come. They’re completely indifferent,” Paige said, causing Gordon’s face to darken.
Paige thought the fire wasn’t enough and continued, “Dad, Joyce and Donald Vogt have done very well. Originally, the two of them were planning to go on a trip, but when they heard about the ancestral worship ceremony, they canceled their travel plans. Comparatively, Jessica and the others are a bit too much.”
Joyce, Jessica and Alex’s younger sister, was sitting on the sofa near Gordon, not exceptionally beautiful but still pleasant to look at.
Next to Joyce sat a man in his thirties, wearing a suit and glasses, appearing somewhat cultured.
This man was Joyce’s boyfriend, the one Paige referred to as Donald Vogt.
Donald Vogt’s uncle, Corey Vogt, was one of the founders of Green Spring Realty. Leveraging this relationship, Donald Vogt, who had returned from studying abroad not long ago, quickly became an executive at Green Spring Realty.
In his thirties, holding a high-paying executive position, Donald Vogt could undoubtedly be considered a successful man.
Because of Donald Vogt’s youth and wealth, he was very popular in the Gunter family. Relatives of the Gunter family, when educating their daughters, would use Joyce as an example, urging them to find a man like Donald Vogt.
In the eyes of many relatives, Joyce finding Donald Vogt was indeed a matter of great pride for the Gunter family.
