Chapter 648: Medical Disturbance

Book:The All-powerful Son-In-Law Published:2024-6-3

In reality, one major reason why the goatee man set up his stall here to treat people was to tarnish the reputation of the Nameless Chinese Medicine Hall. The goatee man had roamed far and wide throughout Langstel, and whenever he heard of a renowned healer, he would seek them out. His motivations were twofold: to showcase the prowess of his Zhu You medical skills and, more importantly, to ruin the reputation of others.
Truth be told, the goatee man had some serious psychological issues. In his mind, his Zhu You technique was the best in the world, and everyone else’s medical skills were nothing but rubbish! In essence, the goatee man believed that he alone deserved the title of a divine healer, while others were merely charlatans seeking fame and recognition.
During his three days of practicing here, the goatee man had garnered quite a bit of attention. Little did he expect that he would now be challenged by the guy from the Nameless Chinese Medicine Hall, the one people dubbed a miraculous healer.
Leo looked at the goatee man and nodded, saying, “I’m Leo Bloomer.”
The goatee man immediately adopted a provocative tone, “I heard people say your medical skills are exceptional. Would you dare to have a little competition with me?”
Leo smiled calmly, “Medical skills are meant for saving lives, not for competitions.”
the goatee man sneered, trying to provoke Leo, “Huh, don’t act all high and mighty. Are you scared?”
“Leo, something has happened; you need to return to the clinic quickly…” Just then, Sarah ran over, gasping for breath.
Sakura quickly asked, “Sarah, what’s going on at the clinic?”
Sarah, with a worried expression, took a couple of breaths and explained, “A patient of the clinic died. They’re threatening to smash the place up!”
Someone had died, and now they were threatening to destroy the clinic. Sakura immediately headed towards the clinic.
Leo, on the other hand, remained much more composed. He asked Sarah, “What happened exactly? It’s strange; how could there be a death?”
“Leo, do you remember Mr. Rossetti, the one who frequently comes to our clinic for treatment and herbal medicine? Well, just now, his son and daughter brought him into the clinic, claiming that he had taken the Chinese medicine we prescribed at noon, and then he collapsed. They created a scene, demanding an explanation.”
“Mr. Rossetti’s children also brought along many relatives, armed with hammers and batons, threatening to smash the clinic if they weren’t satisfied. I rushed over to find you as soon as possible.”
Sarah succinctly explained the situation.
The goatee man, standing nearby, perked up instantly. He loudly proclaimed, “Did you all hear that? This guy named Leo Bloomer caused someone’s death with his Chinese medicine!”
People began whispering among themselves about a death caused by the medicine from the Nameless Chinese Medicine Clinic. The looks they cast towards Leo were no longer friendly.
“Let’s go, back to the clinic.”
Despite the strange gazes and the pointing fingers, Leo remained unfazed. He quickened his pace, heading towards the clinic.
Sarah and Monica hurriedly followed.
Monica was puzzled. Leo’s medical skills were among the most advanced she had seen among Langstel doctors. How could there be an incident where the medicine he prescribed led to someone’s death?
Having been embarrassed by Leo earlier, the goatee man harbored deep resentment. Seeing Leo leaving, he incited the crowd, “Everyone, did you hear that? This so-called Dr. Bloomer caused someone’s death. Let’s all go and see how he deals with the patient’s family.”
Quickly, the only person left at the scene was a kind-hearted old man. He stayed behind to watch over the man who had passed out due to excessive “bath salts” consumption, awaiting the arrival of the police. The rest of the crowd rushed towards the clinic.
On the way to the Nameless Chinese Medicine Clinic, the goatee man felt quite pleased. After all, whether it was traditional Chinese medicine or Western medicine, causing the death of a patient was the most significant medical accident.
Especially in traditional Chinese medicine, the likelihood of accidents was even higher than in Western medicine because if there was the slightest mistake in the herbal prescription, problems could arise.
In the case of a major medical accident like a patient’s death, it was not an exaggeration to say that the career of the attending physician was finished. Lawsuits were almost inevitable.
The goatee man believed that this must be a stroke of luck for him.
By the time Leo returned to the Nameless Chinese Medicine Hall, a crowd had gathered at the entrance. Among them, seven or eight individuals were particularly agitated, holding various makeshift weapons. One of the toughened glass panels of the clinic’s entrance had been shattered, and shards were scattered everywhere.
At the entrance, there was a makeshift stretcher carrying an elderly man, precisely the Mr. Rossetti mentioned by Sarah earlier.
Mr. Rossetti lay still with closed eyes, seemingly lifeless.
Kneeling beside the stretcher was a woman, weeping inconsolably and wailing, “Leo, you quack, come out and pay for my dad’s life!”
Leo squeezed through the crowd. As Mr. Rossetti’s son recognized Leo, he raised the hammer in his hand, pointing it accusingly, “Leo, you finally showed up. You fraudulent doctor! Today, I’ll make you pay for my dad’s life!”
As he spoke, several others behind him also raised their weapons, ready to attack Leo at any moment.
Chasel stepped forward, shouting angrily, “Who dares to lay a hand on Dr. Bloomer? I’ll kill him!”
Chasel had the aura of someone who had seen bloodshed, and this fierce demeanor created immense psychological pressure on Mr. Rossetti’s son and his companions. They involuntarily took a step back.
If it weren’t for the confusion surrounding the incident and the fact that Mr. Rossetti had indeed sought treatment and medication from the clinic, Chasel might have already taught these people a lesson.
Leo lowered his gaze to Mr. Rossetti, then chuckled and said, “The man isn’t dead. Instead of rushing him to the hospital for resuscitation, you come here to cause a scene. Are you trying to extort money?”
“Nonsense, my dad has already stopped breathing!” Mr. Rossetti’s son angrily retorted.
“He actually asked us to take him to the hospital for resuscitation. I think this quack doctor is trying to shirk responsibility!”
“All we need to be sure of is that the old man had a problem after taking the Chinese medicine from this clinic. If this quack doctor doesn’t give us an explanation, we’ll report him to the police!”
“A fraud like this, profiting from deceiving people, should be sent to hell!”
Relatives of Mr. Rossetti, supporting his son, voiced their condemnation of Leo, who, unable to retaliate physically, could only endure their accusations.
“I would never prescribe medicine that could cause someone’s death,” Leo said, squatting down and reaching out to check Mr. Rossetti’s pulse.
“Stop pretending; my dad is already dead!” Mr. Rossetti’s son angrily shouted, then pulled out a document from his pocket and threw it in front of Leo. “Take a good look for yourself. This is the prescription you gave my dad! I’ve already had someone check. There’s a herb in the prescription called Gan Sui, and it’s Gan Sui that killed my dad!”
The goatee man squeezed into the crowd, and upon hearing Mr. Rossetti’s son’s words, he opportunistically chimed in, “Relatives of the patient, you’re right. This herb has a potent medicinal effect. For someone of your father’s age, it’s simply unbearable.”
