Sophia didn’t hesitate; she dialed Bob’s number.
“Who’s this?” came Bob’s cautious voice from the other end of the phone.
It was well past 1 a. m., and for a normal person, deep sleep was likely underway. A call from a stranger at this hour should have induced nervousness and caution, but Sophia urgently said, “Are you Bob? I’m Leo’s wife, Sophia.”
“Sophia…” Bob’s surprised voice came through. At this time of the night, Sophia calling him must mean something was wrong.
Bob quickly heard Sophia’s choked sob over the phone and nervously asked, “Sophia, what happened? Where’s Leo?”
Sophia suppressed her sorrow and said, “Leo and I are at Maple Forest Coast. He’s been captured by the Bernard family…”
Before Sophia could finish her sentence, the broken door of the Fishbone Temple was kicked open, and a man’s excited shout echoed, “I found them!”
Eden, holding a wooden stick, shouted and charged forward, but Dagen kicked him to the ground. Following that, four or five men rushed in from behind Dagen.
Sophia knew these people were here to capture her. Terrified, she held onto her phone and kept retreating until there was nowhere else to go.
On the phone, Bob kept calling, “Sophia, what’s happening? Speak…”
Soon, a “thud!” echoed through the phone’s receiver, likely the sound of the phone hitting the ground.
Bob quickly got out of bed and called Chasel and Bevis.
Chasel had just fallen asleep when he received Bob’s call. He yawned lazily and asked, “Bob, what’s up?”
“Don’t sleep. Hurry and call some reliable brothers. We need to go to Maple Forest Coast; Leo and his wife are in trouble!” Bob commanded loudly.
Bob’s words instantly woke up the drowsy Chasel, who quickly responded, “Bob, where do we meet?”
“The usual place!” Bob hung up and called Bevis.
After hearing what Bob said, Bevis didn’t hesitate and immediately agreed to go with him to Maple Coast.
Through special connections and channels, an hour later, Bob, Chasel, Bevis, and several reliable henchmen boarded a plane to Maple Coast.
Back at the Fishbone Temple, Eden, trying to protect Sophia, was beaten severely by the men Dagen brought along.
As for why Dagen and his crew found Sophia’s hiding place so quickly, the reason was simple. They first went to the Maple Leaf Villa Hotel, where they interrogated Joanna. After some harsh treatment, Joanna couldn’t endure it and revealed the location of the Fishbone Temple.
Sophia was finally taken by Dagen and the others, driven to the Bernard family estate in the night.
At the moment when the sun just peeked above the horizon, Jacob finally regained consciousness from his faint.
“I must humiliate his wife in front of that useless son-in-law and then personally strip him of everything!”
This was the first thing Jacob, now awake, uttered.
Sebastian, Ann, and Kerr stood by the bedside, elated to see Jacob awake.
Kerr, in particular, felt the most satisfaction. All of this turmoil stemmed from the conflict between him and Leo. Now, not only was Leo imprisoned by the Bernard family, but even his wife had been captured, allowing Kerr to release his pent-up frustration.
Seeing Jacob so excited, Ann quickly reassured him, “Jacob, you just woke up; don’t get too worked up. We’ve captured Leo, that son-in-law of yours, and his wife, Sophia.”
Hearing this, Jacob’s eyes lit up, and he exclaimed, “Mom, are you serious?”
“Of course, Leo is locked up in the dungeon,” Ann replied.
Jacob immediately sat up from the bed, “Take me to the dungeon! I want to skin Leo alive in front of his wife!”
Sebastian intervened, “Jacob, you’re not in good shape. It was Master Murray Hoover’s intervention that healed you so quickly. You should thank Lord Ling.”
Jacob turned to the unfamiliar elder standing next to Sebastian and expressed gratitude, “Thank you, Lord Ling, for saving me.”
Murray Hoover merely nodded slightly.
Jacob, eager to move, took a couple of steps forward, almost stumbling due to his injuries.
Mavis and Dagen quickly assisted him.
With Mavis and Dagen supporting him, Jacob walked towards the Bernard family dungeon.
Inside the dungeon, Leo, who had finished recovering, suddenly opened his eyes. He heard the faint sound of the dungeon door opening and closing.
Then came the rustling noise, as if something was moving on the ground.
Soon, Leo heard a whimpering sound.
This sound was very familiar to Leo.
“Sophia, is that you?” Leo asked urgently.
“Whimper…” in the darkness, a whimpering sound came through.
Now Leo was sure; it was indeed Sophia.
Leo rushed towards the source of the sound, but after a few steps, the iron chains on his hands and feet pulled him back.
The other end of the iron chain was fixed to the wall, and despite Leo’s attempts, even with all his Spiritual Power, he couldn’t break the chain.
In the corner of the cell was Sophia, hands, feet, and mouth bound with duct tape, unable to speak or move.
Feeling Sophia’s fear and terror, Leo blamed himself, “Sophia, I’m sorry, it’s all my fault. I couldn’t protect you.”
“Whimper, whimper…” Sophia quickly responded, as if telling Leo it wasn’t his fault.
Honestly, ever since Leo started speaking, possessed Spiritual Power, and realized he had become a cultivator, he had been somewhat arrogant. He even naively believed that with his strength, he could handle anything in this world.
But the current reality dealt him a heavy blow, making him understand that even as a cultivator, there were people in this world who could easily defeat him and even lead him to his death.
Now, with Sophia captured, the two of them became a pair of unfortunate lovers trapped in a dark dungeon, seemingly with no way out.
But as a man, no matter how dire the situation, one must not lose hope.
“Sophia, don’t be afraid. With me here, even if I have to risk my life, I won’t let anyone harm you!” Leo’s voice was resolute.
