What makes a man decide to change himself? Why make such a radical change in his life? For years it has been all I have known, it was my purpose in life. I believed in my own messed-up way that I made a difference in the world. And now I am willing to give it up.
But giving it up does not mean I am going to get your nine-to-five job, no, I have decided to go into business with my lifelong friend. But first I need to convince Ava about it.
When I get home they are busy going through color schemes for the babies’ room.
Trayton ~”Hey baby girl.”
Ava ~”Hey you. I see you on that death trap of yours again.”
Trayton ~”I had to leave the car for the guys because I wanted to come home. What are you guys doing?”
Ava ~”We trying to decide what color to make the babies’ room but we can’t decide between green or yellow.”
Trayton ~”Baby girl I am sorry but that is fucking ugly.”
Ava ~”Hey watch your mouth. Do you have any better suggestions?”
Trayton ~”Just make it pink and blue.”
Ava ~”And who says it is going to be a girl?”
Trayton ~”I do.”
Ava ~”Oh really, Mr. I do, get me so strawberry milk out that fridge behind you.”
I grab her a bottle from the fridge, I swear she lives on these things.
Trayton ~”Why don’t you just make two rooms?”
Ava ~”And split them up? Are you crazy? And if both cry at the same time?”
Trayton ~”Then I will go to the boy’s room.”
Ava ~”I see we are already picking favorites”
Trayton ~”Hey our boys need to stick together.”
She seems to be in a good mood, now is the best time to bring this up. To say that she is going to flip is an understatement but I need her approval. Jackson is going to be here in two hours, I need to have a solid decision by then.
Trayton ~”Baby there is something that we have to talk about.”
Ava ~”Am I going to like this? I am already not liking the sound of it.”
Trayton ~”I probably think you won’t.”
Ava ~”Then why ask me in the first place then?”
Trayton ~”Because I need to make a decision and I have to have your approval for it.”
Ava ~”Ok so let’s hear it then.”
Mary ~”I think I am going to leave you guys alone then.”
Ava ~”No, mom stay just in case I need someone to slap him.”
Trayton ~”Why do you want to slap me? I have not even started yet?”
Ava ~”I just know it is going to be bullshit.”
Trayton ~”Hey watch your mouth.”
Ava ~”Hey the two little baby bugs are in my belly, I can say whatever I want.”
Here it goes, I step a bit back from mom so that I am not in slapping distance.
Trayton ~”So I have decided that I am not going to carry on with the business anymore.”
Ava ~”What? Are you closing the club?”
Trayton ~”No the other business.”
Ava ~”Oh you finally going to stop killing people?”
Trayton ~”Baby girl don’t say it like that.”
Ava ~”But it is what you do.”
Trayton ~”I see it as pest control.”
Ava ~”Fuck don’t start shooting the bugs you find around the house here.”
Trayton ~”You just being silly now.”
Mary ~”I think it is about time, your babies can’t have a dad in prison.”
Trayton ~”Have I ever been caught?”
Mary ~”No, but there is always a first time.”
Ava ~”So what are you going to do now?”
Trayton ~”I, uhm, I sort of want to go work with Jackson.”
Ava ~”What? You going to become a strip club owner?”
Trayton ~”Hell no? I will kill every asshole that tries to touch the girls.”
Ava ~”Then you are going to have to be a bit more specific, Jackson does a lot of shit.”
Trayton ~”You know what he is known for.”
Ava ~”Yes, the Mafia Boss of the Northern state.”
Trayton ~”And you know he is been waiting for me…”
I do not even get time to finish my sentence.
Ava ~”Oh no you don’t. Just wipe that fucked up idea from your head.”
Trayton ~”But baby girl…”
Ava ~”Do not but baby girl me.”
Trayton ~”Baby girl.”
Ava ~”Zip it, I am not listening.”
Trayton ~”Baby girl I need…”
Ava ~”You do not need to do anything”
Mary ~”I think I am going to leave.”
Ava ~”No.”
Trayton ~”No.”
Mary ~”Okay I will stay and listen even though if I must say it is a brilliant idea.”
Ava ~”Mom! Whose side are you on?”
Mary ~”They always use to say they are going to do it one day. I think it is great the boys finally come together.”
Ava ~”Mom he can still get locked up and thrown into jail.”
Trayton ~”I won’t.”
Ava ~”And what if you get killed. What happens to me and the babies?”
Trayton ~”Have I gotten killed so far? And Jackson would look after you, you know that.”
Ava ~”You would be a criminal.”
Trayton ~”I am already a criminal.”
Ava ~”When did you come up with this shit?”
Trayton ~”Right after I fired Jacklyn.”
Ava ~”Did you finally fire the bitch?”
Trayton ~”Yes, I practically kicked her ass out.”
Mary ~”It is about damn time.”
I need to be honest to her about this, she needs to know that if I don’t do something, then we are going to run dry. But I also don’t want her to worry. Yes, I should probably find a normal job but this is the only thing I know, it is the only thing I am good at.
Trayton ~”Baby girl I am not going to get into trouble.”
Ava ~”Baby how do you know that?”
Trayton ~”Jackson knows a lot of people baby girl, if I get into trouble then there will be someone to help me out.”
Ava ~”Does he know someone that can help you out when you are dead?”
Trayton ~”Baby girl I will have Dominic to protect me.”
Ava ~”Are you dragging Dominic into this as well?”
Mary ~”And Kenton?”
Trayton ~”No Kenton is running the club.”
Ava ~”And where do you suppose you run this business?”
Trayton ~”Wherever I want.”
Ava ~”So you are going to bring some scary mafia guys in our house with the children?”
Trayton ~”Baby girl they would be like their uncles.”
Ava ~”You sure seem to have thought everything through.”
Trayton ~”Baby girl the club is not making money. I need to do something else to keep cash flowing.”
Ava ~”What do you mean cash flowing?”
Trayton ~”Baby girl caring for everyone is not cheap. I want to provide for my family and my wife and children.”
Ava ~”You think if you throw wife in there it is going to make me soft?”
Trayton ~”Yes I do, did it work?”
Ava ~”Maybe just a little bit. But why do we need money?”
Trayton ~”Baby girl I have not worked since that thing with Alexa.”
Ava ~”Why did you not tell me?”
Mary ~”Yes, why did you not tell us sooner, we could have all gone and got jobs?”
Trayton ~”Mom I will not allow it, I look after my family, they don’t look after themselves.”
Ava ~”So now you thinking this is the only way you can do it?”
Trayton ~”It is the only way I want to do it.”
Ava ~”If it is that important to you then I will support you.”
Trayton ~”Thank you baby girl, I promise I won’t let you down.”
This went far easier than I expected, I was waiting for her to scream and shout. I guess my Ava is getting all grown up now, now if I told her this six months ago she would probably have left me.
Trayton ~”Baby girl, Jackson and Kayley is coming for dinner tonight.”
Ava ~”Trayton, you had this planned all along, didn’t you?”
Trayton ~”Baby girl I told Kayley I will only do it if you said yes.”
Mary ~”So does this mean I need to make dinner?”
Trayton ~”Well if mom don’t want burnt food, then yes.”
Ava ~”Hey I don’t burn food.”
Trayton ~”No, you just kill it.”
Ava ~”Mom, now you can slap him.”
Mary ~”What time are they going to be here?”
Trayton ~”At eight.”
Ava ~”Are they bringing the babies with?”
Trayton ~”I don’t think so.”
Ava ~”That sucks, at least my baby bugs will have two other babies to play with.”
Trayton ~”See, it all works out well.”
Ava ~”If you rub it in then I am going to change my mind.”
Trayton ~”Come here.”
I pull her into my arms and hug her, I can’t really hug her tight cause her big belly is in the way, but I hug her as tight as I can.
Trayton ~”Thank you.”
Ava ~”Just don’t get your ass into trouble.”
I am so damn happy now, I can do something that I know that I will enjoy and I will have a good woman next to me supporting me.
Trayton ~”Now what do you say we go upstairs and fool around, we still have an hour and a half before they get here.”
Mary ~”I really did not want to hear that.”
Trayton ~”Then you should not be listening to our conversation mom.”
She wobbles her little cute ass in front of me upstairs to our bedroom. Even though she is as giant as a house, she is still the most gorgeous woman I have ever seen. I watch her as she gets onto the bed and lays down right in the middle.
Ava ~”Can we have a nap instead?”
Trayton ~”Of course baby girl.”
I slide in behind her, I wrap my legs around hers and put my hand on her belly.
Trayton ~”I love you baby girl.”
Ava ~”I love you too.”
She looks down and speaks to her belly.
Ava ~”Mommy and daddy love you baby bugs too.”
We both fall asleep soon after that only to be woken up by a knock at the door.
Mary ~”Trayton.”
Trayton ~”Yes mom?”
Mary ~”Jackson and Kayley are here.”
Trayton ~”Oh shit, we overslept, tell them we will be there in a second.”
I turn over to wake Ava.
Trayton ~”Baby girl, Jackson is here.”
Ava ~”Shit, I need to get dressed.”
Trayton ~”I will go downstairs, I will see you just now.”
I jump into a pair of jeans and slip a shirt over my head. I head downstairs where I find them waiting for me in the lounge.
Kayley ~”Is this the time to be sleeping? You just like Jackson, he finds any excuse to lay down with the babies.”
Just then Ava comes walking into the lounge. She looks absolutely gorgeous and kind of excited. I think she is looking forward to making friends with another new mommy. Kayley had her twins, a boy, and a girl, only three months ago. Kayley is in a way the same as Ava, a very strong and independent woman, she takes no shit from a man. Poor Jackson is always in trouble with her but they are a great couple. But Kayley is also a mafia queen, so most men are afraid of her, even me.
Trayton ~”Baby girl you remember Jackson?”
Ava ~”Hey Jackson.”
Jackson ~”Hey Ava, how are the babies doing?”
Ava ~”Loving pickles way too much, I swear I am going to hate the shit when they are finally born.”
Kayley ~”Fuck I ate the shit too, that and Nutella. I can’t stand the smell anymore. Lucky they did not ruin me for ice cream.”
Trayton ~”Baby girl, I don’t think you have met Kayley yet?”
Ava ~”Nice to finally meet you, Jackson talks a lot about you.”
Kayley ~”Probably a whole bunch of shit.”
Ava ~”Nah, he is too scared of you.”
Kayley ~”I hope this shit has learned his lesson especially after the last dumb ass stunt he pulled.”
Ava ~”Believe me he knows what is good for him.”
Kayley ~”And I hope he has asked you about this business plan of his?”
Ava ~”Only after he spoke to you.”
Kayley ~”And what do you think of it?”
Ava ~”I told him I will support him as long as his ass does not get caught or killed.”
Jackson ~”I will personally kill him myself if he gets caught.”
Trayton ~”You know I am still in the same room.”
Kayley ~”We all just know that you always get into trouble.”
Ava ~”They both always in trouble.”
Kayley ~”God I don’t want to see them working together.”
Jackson ~”So what do you say about that? We going to do this? ”
Trayton ~”Well the boss said it is okay, so let’s do it then.”
Jackson ~”You know once you part of the family there is no going back?”
Ava ~”Wait a minute there. Did you say family?”
Ava has a very nervous look on her face, I did not quite explain this whole thing to her. I told her about the uncles but she probably thought that I was joking. I hope she does not ask how many because she could possibly faint. She is either can say heck no now or maybe even strangle me.
Kayley ~”Don’t tell me you don’t know about the extended family?”
Ava ~”How extended are we talking about?”
Trayton ~”Baby girl don’t worry about that.”
Ava ~”Trayton DeCarlo what did you not tell me?.”
Trayton ~”Baby girl you just kind of become part of the Mafia family and you kind of can’t really decide you don’t want to be part of it anymore.”
Ava ~”So this is an in-for-life thing. How many are we talking about?”
Jackson ~”Well we looking at thirty four capos and about one hundred thirty six soldiers.”
Ava ~”Holy shit! And where does this asshole fit in?”
Jackson ~”Well Kayley kicked my underboss out so Trayton is going to be my new one.”
Ava ~”And how many of these men are coming in my house?”
Trayton ~”Baby girl I won’t let anybody in here if you not comfortable. I can always work from the club.”
Kayley ~”Belief me the two assholes that will be assigned to him will be enough, don’t let the rest of the idiots in your house.”
Ava ~”What? Like another Dominic?”
Trayton ~”Yes like another Dominic.”
Ava ~”Just as long as it is not another Joseph.”
Kayley ~”I heard about that Alexa. I must say nice work.”
Ava ~”I guess thank you, but I was only protecting my man.”
Kayley ~”Believe me you still going to protect him many more times.”
Ava ~”That is what I am afraid of.”
Trayton ~”You guys are really making me sound like I am useless.”
Ava ~”No you just don’t have the brain capacity sometimes, who sits and decides he wants to become an underboss.”
We enjoy mom’s dinner and have drinks for the rest of the night. The boys talking all things business and the girls talking all things babies. Kayley and Ava disappear to what will become the babies’ room leaving me and Jackson in the lounge.
Jackson ~”You sure you want to do this?”
Trayton ~”Never been so sure.”
Jackson ~”Good, I have something I need you to take care of.”
