Lawrence held the wine dispenser, his hand frozen in mid-air, his face an epitome of embarrassment.
Once Leo took his seat, Rosemary hurriedly asked, “How do you know Mr. Dan?”
“I treated him, so we naturally got to know each other,” Leo explained.
Rosemary nodded in understanding and dropped the subject.
Lawrence, nursing his wounded ego, snorted and muttered, “Just because he knows Mr. Dan, he thinks he’s all that.”
Rosemary wasn’t particularly fond of Lawrence’s relentless advances and mocked, “Some people can’t even manage to get to know Mr. Dan.”
“Humph, it’s just Godfery Dan. If I want to meet him, I’ll have my dad introduce us someday,” Lawrence grumbled defiantly.
Their table companions chuckled dryly, empathizing with Lawrence’s mood.
At that moment, the gentleman in a suit suddenly brightened, pointing towards the direction near the front desk, “Look, the Mayor is heading our way! Mr. Lytton, if I recall correctly, the Mayor is your relative somehow. He must be coming over for you.”
Everyone raised their heads, indeed spotting the Mayor holding a glass, making his way over.
Lawrence, burdened by embarrassment, couldn’t be happier. He exclaimed, “He must have noticed those guys in suits blocking me and decided to come to invite me to a toast!”
Before the Mayor reached their table, Lawrence eagerly stood up and called out, “Uncle!”
The Mayor, Ronald Timothy, merely nodded at Lawrence and continued past him, heading directly for Leo. He greeted, “Leo, didn’t expect to see you here. Nice to meet you.”
The surrounding crowd was left astounded by his words. The Mayor deliberately bypassed Lawrence, extending a welcoming hand to Leo.
“Mayor, hello,” Leo stood up and smiled.
Ronald Timothy shook hands with Leo and suggested, “After Mr. Dan comes to toast you, many others will want to come over. I’ve held them back. I think it might be more comfortable for you to join our table for drinks.”
This proposal sent shockwaves through the room. The Mayor, Ronald Timothy, was inviting an unknown young man to the head table for drinks!
Others couldn’t even think about making a toast, and yet this young man received a personal invitation from Ronald Timothy himself.
Who was this guy?
Countless eyes turned towards Leo, with mixed feelings of recognition and unfamiliarity. They couldn’t quite place him, but his face was somewhat familiar, even if he was somewhat of a stranger in Langstel.
“Mayor, you really don’t need to…” Leo was here to support Rosemary, and he didn’t want to abandon her.
However, he secretly longed to leave this table since the other one, filled with acquaintances, seemed more comfortable.
“Don’t be so polite; it was Mr. Fox who asked me to come and invite you,” Ronald Timothy leaned in closer to Leo and whispered, “Regarding the Golden Haven Estates fire, we’re all very grateful for what you did.”
On the day of the fire, Ronald Timothy had been on-site. After Leo rescued the child and safely evacuated, he ordered an investigation into Leo’s background.
Learning of Leo’s true identity left Ronald Timothy in awe. He couldn’t fathom how an ordinary person, even a notorious son-in-law in a wealthy family, could save a child from a raging fire so effortlessly.
Though he couldn’t understand it fully, Ronald Timothy and Noel were both immensely grateful for Leo’s actions.
If it weren’t for Leo’s heroic act that day, which significantly improved Langstel’s image, Ronald Timothy and Noel’s political careers would have been significantly affected.
At Ronald Timothy’s warm invitation, Leo didn’t hesitate. In the midst of envious, jealous, and puzzled gazes, he made his way to the head table in the banquet hall.
Lawrence’s face couldn’t have turned uglier; he never expected his granduncle to be so enthusiastic about Leo, leaving him unnoticed.
Watching Leo’s departure, Rosemary had a complex expression, her mind filled with a myriad of thoughts.
Once they reached the head table, Ronald Timothy had a server bring an extra chair for Leo and then proceeded to introduce him to those present.
At this table, half the people were acquainted with Leo, while the other half, though unfamiliar with him, recognized that anyone invited by Ronald Timothy must hold a significant position. They warmly greeted Leo, despite not knowing him personally.
Noel poured the wine, raised his glass, and said, “Leo, the little miracle doctor. I’ve already heard from Ronald about what happened the last time. Thank you. This drink is for you.”
Noel chose not to explicitly mention the fire incident to protect Leo’s privacy. After speaking, he emptied his glass in one go.
Leo poured himself a drink and, after clinking glasses with Noel, did the same.
On Rosemary’s side, the man in the suit paid close attention to Leo. Witnessing Noel’s gesture, he couldn’t believe it. “My, my! Look at that, Mr. Fox is toasting him!”
Everyone saw it, and their faces held both surprise and astonishment.
This young man named Leo had brought a lot of shocks today.
“Who is he exactly? His background is simply extraordinary!”
“Do you think he could be the red-blooded aristocrat from North?”
“No way!” Lawrence, brimming with resentment, retorted, “I had someone investigate his background. He’s just a parasitic, lowly son-in-law from Langstel’s second-rate the Henley family!”
Right after leaving Rosemary’s office, Lawrence had people dig into Leo’s background and identity. Upon discovering Leo’s status, Lawrence breathed a sigh of relief, no longer seeing Leo as a threat.
At the same time, he understood that when Rosemary claimed Leo was her boyfriend, it was merely a ruse to shield herself. The thought of anything intimate happening between them seemed preposterous.
In Lawrence’s eyes, Leo was far too ordinary, a son-in-law with no noteworthy background, and didn’t belong to his social strata.
Honestly, there was a part of Lawrence that initially hoped Leo would attend this exchange so he could mock and belittle him without holding back and flaunt his superiority before Rosemary.
As it turned out, his aspirations weren’t met, and all of Leo’s achievements overshadowed his own.
Seeing Noel offer a toast to Leo was almost enough to make Lawrence’s blood boil.
He couldn’t sit still any longer. Lawrence used the pretext of going to the restroom, found a secluded spot, and dialed a number on his phone.
