Chapter 332: Gut Feeling

Book:The All-powerful Son-In-Law Published:2024-6-3

At this moment, Leo looked completely soot-covered, as if he had emerged from a coal mine. However, the child he held appeared unharmed.
Sophia couldn’t restrain herself and rushed over. She wanted to embrace Leo tightly but hesitated. Leo had just come out of a fire, and she feared that a hug might cause him secondary harm.
The child’s mother, filled with excitement and joy, also rushed forward and took her child from Leo’s arms.
Firefighters and nurses immediately escorted the woman and her child to an ambulance for examination.
At the moment she give her child to the nurses, the woman realized she needed to thank Leo. She knelt down before him, tears of gratitude streaming down her face. “Thank you, thank you so much! You’re our savior.”
Leo removed his fireproof suit and revealed a set of pearly white teeth. First, he smiled at Sophia, then he helped the woman to her feet. “Ma’am, no need to thank me. Doing the right thing is what I should do. Go check on your child.”
This scene moved the people around them deeply. Many had teary eyes.
“This is truly unbelievable. This unnamed hero saved a child from such a massive fire, and he’s unharmed. It’s a miracle!”
“For kind-hearted people, heaven always lends a hand.”
In the midst of the discussions, Leo noticed a reporter approaching. He quickly grabbed Sophia’s hand. “Rescue mission accomplished. Let’s head home.”
However, the reporter continued to follow. She wanted to interview Leo but was declined.
Leo had too many enemies lately, and considering his special status as Sophia’s husband, he didn’t want to become a “famous” figure on television.
On the way back home, Sophia, still filled with anxiety, said, “You scared me today. Please promise me you won’t do impulsive things like this in the future, okay?”
Leo nodded.
“With such a massive fire, how did you manage to save the child?” Sophia turned her head to look at Leo, her curiosity piqued. To her, what Leo did today seemed impossible since the firefighters had given up.
Leo didn’t want Sophia to worry excessively or feel frightened. After a brief pause, he explained, “From the outside, the fire looked severe, but the situation inside wasn’t as dire. Firefighters were already working on extinguishing the flames outside, and inside the building, the water pipes had burst on the sixteenth floor. Water was flooding everywhere. That’s how I managed to rescue the child.”
In truth, the situation had been extremely dangerous. When Leo kicked open the door to room 1601, it was already a blazing inferno. He eventually found the unconscious child inside the bathroom.
Luckily, the child knew how to protect herself during a fire. She had turned on all the taps in the bathroom and covered her nose and mouth with a wet towel.
When Leo found her, he used an Ice Talisman to create a protective shield around the child. Then he carried her out of the room just in time before an explosion occurred on the fifteenth floor.
“Sophia, please don’t tell your parents about what happened today. I don’t want them to worry,” Leo added as an afterthought.
Sophia naturally agreed with a nod.
Leo suddenly remembered something important. He turned to Sophia with a mischievous grin. “Sophia, there’s something I’m not sure if I should say.”
After four years together, they had developed a certain level of understanding of each other. Sophia guessed what Leo was about to say and teased, “If you’re not sure whether to say it or not, then don’t.”
“Since you put it that way, I’ll muster up the courage to say it,” Leo said with a playful smile. “Sophia, can we go back to how things were before, especially when it comes to sleeping arrangements?”
Sophia coyly raised the corner of her mouth. “Do you think I will agree or not?”
Leo’s face lit up with joy, like a child.
After driving for a while, Sophia noticed they weren’t heading home but rather leaving the city. “Where are you going?” Sophia asked, puzzled.
Leo’s gaze briefly turned cold. “Huntstone City, the Henley family estate.”
“Why are we going to the Henley family mansion?” Sophia inquired, even more puzzled.
“To settle scores with Bruno.”
Sophia was taken aback for a moment, then realized, “You mean those people who kidnapped me were working for Bruno?”
Leo nodded. “Yes, I saw Bruno get out of the car that kidnapped you on the surveillance footage. He kidnapped you to use as leverage against me.”
“That bastard!” Sophia clenched her teeth, her chest heaving with anger.
“Bruno should still be at the Henley family estate. If we don’t give him a lesson he won’t forget, he’ll think we’re easy targets,” Leo said, his anger evident. The consequences could have been severe if Ken had harmed Sophia. Leo would have struggled to control himself from killing Bruno.
As they entered the Henley family mansion, Bob called Leo.
“Leo, not long after you left, guess who showed up?”
“Who?”
“Noah!” Bob’s voice carried a tone of hatred. “He and Ken were working together, and they both confessed. The mastermind behind everything is Bruno.”
“Bob, I appreciate what you did today.”
“You saved my wife, and I saved yours. We don’t need to thank each other. Just treat me as your buddy, and whenever you need help, give me a call. Also, pass on my regards to your wife. Bye!”
Ending the call, Leo parked the car.
As he unfastened his seatbelt, he noticed Sophia was looking at him intently. “What’s wrong?” Leo thought there might be something on his face.
Sophia asked, “Leo, did you save someone else’s wife? How many secrets are you hiding from me? And who is this Noah?”
Leo had no choice but to explain, “Noah used to be Bob’s subordinate. After Bob retired, Noah started his own organization and then kidnapped Bob’s wife. I helped Bob rescue his wife.”
“Sophia, I feel like you’re hiding something from me,” Sophia said, her eyes fixed on Leo.
Leo’s heart skipped a beat. He smiled wryly. “Why would you feel that way?”
“It’s a woman’s intuition,” Sophia said, retracting her gaze. “Of course, if you don’t want to tell me, it’s okay.”
Leo grabbed Sophia’s hand and spoke earnestly, “Sophia, there are indeed some things happening with me, but I can’t tell you right now. My feelings for you are genuine, and I promise that I’ll eventually tell you everything that has happened to me.”
“Alright, everyone has their own privacy, and that applies to couples too. I respect your privacy,” Sophia replied with a smile.
