“The situation is not looking good. Come over and take a look,” Dr. Mond gestured to the other doctors to make way and then led Leo to the bedside.
Sitting on the bed was a man looked like a local instead of a foreigner. He appeared tall, but his frame gave the impression of extreme thinness, like someone who had smoked heavily and reached an advanced stage of emaciation.
The foreigner’s face was devoid of any color. His eyes were deeply sunken, encircled by dark rings, and there were puffiness and redness beneath his eyes. His eyeballs were bloodshot, giving him an eerie resemblance to a vampire.
From his unhealthy appearance, it seemed like he was suffering from extreme fatigue and needed proper rest. However, his expression and the glint in his eyes indicated an unusual level of excitement.
“Dr. Mond, has he gone several days without sleep? Give him some sleeping pills, and he should be fine after a good night’s rest,” Leo withdrew his gaze from the patient and suggested to Dr. Mond.
“We’ve already administered sleeping pills, even at the maximum dosage, but he just can’t fall asleep. Before coming to the hospital, he hadn’t slept for three days and nights,” Dr. Mond replied with a troubled expression.
Leo was taken aback and asked, “What’s the diagnosis then?”
“He has severe nervous exhaustion, and we’ve even tried sedatives, but they have had no effect. He hadn’t slept for three days and nights before coming here,” Dr. Mond replied with a bitter smile.
It was indeed a mysterious ailment, which explained why Dr. Mond had called Leo.
Dr. Mond continued, “We’ve tried various Western medical treatments, but none have been effective. While his vital signs appear normal, if he continues without sleep, his organs could suffer severe failure, and he could die at any moment.”
“Dr. Bloomer, do you think traditional Chinese medicine has a solution to this condition?” Dr. Mond looked at Leo with hopeful eyes.
“Could you stop wasting time? Can you actually treat him or not?” a woman’s voice, sharp and piercing, interrupted.
Leo turned to look and saw a well-dressed woman standing beside the patient’s bed. She wore black-framed glasses, had an anxious expression, and appeared to be the patient’s assistant.
The female assistant glared at the doctors in the room, dissatisfied. “It’s been since eight in the morning, and your treatments have been completely ineffective. You doctors are utterly useless, unable to handle even a simple case of insomnia!”
The three male doctors in the room looked uncomfortable upon hearing her words, but none dared to argue because they truly had no solution to the patient’s condition.
“Miss Macadam, Mr. Jayce’s condition is very unique, and we are discussing our treatment plan,” one of the doctors responded.
“Humph, discussing a plan? By the time you come up with one, it’ll be too late. Even your hospital director will have to step down if anything happens to Mr. Jayce in Langstel!” The female assistant’s tone was assertive because Jayce was the general agent for Cirrus, an famous international brand in this country, and his recruitment had been facilitated by the city government. If any issues arose during his hospital stay, both the city mayor and the hospital director would face accountability.
“We can’t afford to wait any longer. For Jayce’s safety, we should leave for another hospital immediately!” the voice of a woman outside the emergency room could be heard.
A beautiful woman entered the room. Her entrance seemed to light up the otherwise dim space, making it instantly brighter. Even the male doctors, who had seen their fair share of beautiful women, couldn’t help but be captivated.
It wasn’t just her beauty; her charisma was also extraordinary. Her peach-blossom eyes seemed capable of enchanting anyone who met her gaze, leaving them feeling entranced.
Even Leo, who was used to being around beautiful women, couldn’t help but give her a second glance.
The beautiful woman paid no attention to the admiring looks from the male doctors. She walked directly to the patient’s bed, glanced at Jayce, and said to the female assistant, “Miss Macadam, I’ve already contacted the specialists. We can’t delay Mr. Jayce’s treatment any longer. Let’s go.”
“Alright,” Miss Macadam nodded quickly. She then spoke to Jayce, and he got up from the bed, trembling in his legs, before sitting in a wheelchair nearby.
Although Jayce wasn’t physically disabled, his peculiar condition had caused him to lose control over his legs.
Miss Macadam pushed Jayce out of the emergency room, and just as they were about to exit, she turned around and shouted angrily, “You’re all incompetent doctors! I’ll file a complaint against you. Your skills aren’t even enough to treat a simple case of insomnia!”
The doctors in the emergency room, including Dr. Mond, were infuriated by her words, but none dared to retort because they truly had no solution for Jayce’s condition.
“Jayce’s condition can’t afford the time to travel. Leaving now is akin to sending him to his death!” Leo suddenly interjected.
His statement caught Miss Macadam’s attention, and she stopped, turning to him with a furious expression. “What do you mean?”
“What I mean is, given Jayce’s current condition, he can only hold out for three more hours at most. After five hours, the specialist will only be met with a lifeless body,” Leo stated firmly.
Dr. Mond stepped forward, saying, “Miss Fanny, this is Leo, the Chinese medicine specialist I invited. What he said is correct. Mr. Jayce’s condition is very unique, and he might have a solution.”
Hearing the word “Chinese medicine” from Dr. Mond’s mouth, the beautiful woman sneered and looked at Leo with disdain: “Chinese medicine, just him? Dr. Mond, don’t be ridiculous. Jayce has a condition that my grandfather can’t fix! Is he a better doctor than my grandfather?”
“This… Maybe he can’t be compared to Dr. Rudolph, of course, but I’ve seen the magic of Dr. Bloomer, and he may have a solution to Mr. Jayce’s condition.” Dr. Mond tried to be tactful.
Leo’s gaze shifted back to the beautiful woman, and he asked with surprise, “Is your grandfather Dr. Rudolph?”
