The next day, after breakfast, Karen called, saying she was on her way. During the call, Karen made it clear to Sophia that she didn’t want to see Leo; otherwise, she would sever their friendship.
Sophia made a little effort with her appearance and then carried an LV purse as she left the house. As soon as she stepped out, she saw Karen’s BMW parked outside the gate. Karen had already stepped out of the car, and when she spotted Sophia, she glanced behind her.
Not seeing Leo, a subtle sense of disappointment appeared on Karen’s face.
Approaching Karen, Sophia noticed her expression and teased, “Looks like someone wanted to see someone special. Do you want me to call him out?”
Karen playfully glared at Sophia and said, “Are you trying to provoke me? My piano virtuoso has married you, and his heart belongs to you alone. I can only watch from the sidelines!”
Seeing Karen’s annoyed expression, Sophia couldn’t help but find it amusing. “Karen, with your charm, you might actually be able to steal your piano virtuoso back.”
Karen couldn’t help but reach out and tickle Sophia. “If I manage to steal him back, I bet someone will come after me!”
In the past, Leo was nothing more than a toad in Karen’s eyes. She had thought that Sophia marrying him was a stain on Sophia’s life, one that couldn’t be washed away. But now, Karen felt that Sophia was the luckiest woman in the world, and all she could do was envy and wish her well.
Similarly, Leo’s dramatic transformation left Karen perplexed. Leo now seemed like a dragon that had just awakened from a long slumber.
Karen finally voiced the question that had been bothering her since she saw Leo playing the piano on the rooftop of the Wyndham Grand Hotel. Why had Leo undergone such a profound change?
“Sophia, come clean. Why has Leo changed so much?” Karen blinked, curiosity shining in her eyes as she looked at Sophia.
Since the series of inexplicable changes in Leo’s financial situation, Sophia had been equally puzzled. She couldn’t fathom how a man who had been considered a worthless son-in-law could suddenly amass wealth and make extravagant purchases like two Audi A8s and the mention of buying a high-end villa.
This enigmatic change in Leo’s life left Sophia at a loss, and she could only shrug and reply, “Sorry, but I can’t answer this profound question.”
Karen’s eyes darted around as she continued, “Sophia, even though I don’t know why Leo suddenly has so much money, as your good friend, I need to warn you about something.”
Seeing Karen’s serious expression, Sophia inquired, “What is it?”
“Men often go astray when they have money. Have you heard that saying before? According to statistics on the internet, there’s an eighty percent chance that men with money will be unfaithful. So, you should be cautious!”
Sophia couldn’t help but laugh at this. “You’re talking about something with a probability of almost zero happening with Leo. He has endured countless slights and humiliations for the past four years without wavering in his commitment. If he wanted to be unfaithful, he would have done it long ago, so there’s no need to worry.”
Seeing Sophia’s confident response, Karen couldn’t find a counterargument. She could only sigh and say, “Sophia, I envy you. Leo treats you so well, and he’s my dream piano virtuoso. I feel like I’ll never love anyone else again.”
“Since you’re so sad, how about I split Leo with you?” Sophia jokingly suggested.
Karen made a playful threatening gesture and said with a mischievous smile, “You said it, don’t regret it. Even if Leo has strong willpower, I don’t believe my pair of beautiful legs can’t conquer him!”
Sophia knew Karen was just joking, and she trusted Leo’s feelings for her. She didn’t take Karen’s words to heart.
The two of them got into the car and left the villa. Today, Sophia and Karen were going out for shopping and fun. As for Leo, he had some free time, so he decided to go to the clinic for a morning consultation. After having lunch, he planned to go to Cloud Dream Mountain’s Heaven’s Extreme Stone to practice. However, his phone rang unexpectedly.
Leo was surprised to see that the call was from his mother-in-law, Jessica. In the four years since he had married into the Henley family, Jessica had called him many times, usually to ask him to buy groceries, cook, or do other chores. Leo assumed that today’s call would be more of the same.
He answered the call with a greeting, “Mom.”
“Leo, hurry over to 48 Riverside Avenue. You have ten minutes,” Jessica said before abruptly hanging up, leaving Leo with no opportunity to ask questions.
Leo’s current location wasn’t far from Riverside Avenue, so he adjusted his direction and headed there. When he was close to 48 Riverside Avenue, he noticed what appeared to be a traffic accident up ahead.
He parked his car in a nearby spot and quickly approached the scene. Indeed, there had been a traffic accident involving a motorcycle that had fallen in the middle of the road. A middle-aged woman was sitting on the ground, her leg bleeding from a scrape.
Jessica was standing in front of the woman, scolding her, while Martin stood silently nearby.
Leo approached Jessica and asked, “Mom, what happened?”
Jessica cast a sideways glance at Leo, somewhat displeased with his slow arrival. She pointed at the woman on the ground and said, “This woman tried to stage an accident. She collided with my car. You stay here to help deal with this, and your dad and I have other matters to attend to.”
With that, Jessica went over to pull Martin, who had been standing still on the side, and attempted to leave the scene.
Leo assessed the situation at a glance. This was a pedestrian crossing, and the woman had likely been riding the motorcycle across when Jessica or Martin failed to slow down and collided with her.
Jessica was the type of person who always insisted on her point of view, even when she was in the wrong. After colliding with the woman, she was now blaming the woman for trying to scam her. She had summoned Leo to deal with the situation, and then she and Martin intended to leave safely.
Hearing Jessica’s words, the woman pointed at Martin and said, “You’re talking nonsense. It was your man who hit me with the car. Everyone here can testify!”
Feeling the eyes of the onlookers on him, Martin, who was not good with words, felt a bit guilty and stayed silent.
Jessica placed her hands on her hips and loudly retorted, “You’re making things up! My husband was clearly driving normally. You were the one who rode your motorcycle into us. Look at our Audi! You’re just trying to scam money. I’ve encountered people like you many times!”
