“It’s not that. Today, I drove that Audi A8 to a friend’s place to play mahjong. Guess what happened?” Jessica teased.
“Uh, did they ask you to take them for a ride when she saw you driving the new car?” Sophia guessed.
Jessica shook her head and laughed, “No, my luck was unusually good today. I won several rounds in a row, not only winning back the money I lost a few days ago but also won a lot!”
Sophia gave a wry smile. Her mother’s only hobby was playing mahjong.
“Sophia, I’ve noticed something amazing. It seems like when a person drives a nice car and is in a good mood, their luck improves too,” Jessica remarked.
Sophia looked at Leo and said, “Mom, the nice car you’re driving was bought by Leo. So, your good luck is all thanks to him.”
“What do you mean Leo gave it to me? Don’t talk nonsense!” Jessica glared at Leo and said, “He’s marrying into our family, so it’s only natural for him to buy a car as a gift for his mother-in-law! Leo, don’t just stand there, go cook dinner!”
Although Jessica had noticed Leo’s recent changes, her authority as his mother-in-law couldn’t be challenged. So, she didn’t intend to give Leo any special treatment.
Just then, Martin walked in through the door.
Upon seeing that both his wife and daughter were back, Martin asked in confusion, “Why are there two identical Audi A8s in our outdoor parking space?”
Jessica was taken aback by his question and then exclaimed, “It must be the neighbors parking their car in the wrong spot. Let me go check.”
Sophia quickly explained, “Dad, that car doesn’t belong to someone else. Leo bought another Audi A8.”
“What?” Both Jessica and Martin turned to Sophia, their faces filled with disbelief.
Jessica glanced at Leo and then walked over to Sophia, whispering in a lowered voice, “Honey, be honest with Mom. Did you buy the car?”
“It really was Leo who bought it.”
“How could he suddenly have so much money?” Jessica couldn’t comprehend it. Even if Leo was really earning a million dollars a year at the Wilde Jewelry Group, buying two Audi A8s in just two days seemed impossible. Especially considering that Jessica had only been giving Leo five hundred dollars a month for living expenses. And since her brother borrowed three hundred thousand from her, even the five hundred dollars was stopped. He couldn’t possibly have saved up enough to buy these cars.
“Sweetie, do you think Leo might have done something illegal? That’s why he suddenly has money,” Jessica speculated.
Sophia chuckled, “Mom, you have quite an imagination. Leo said he made the money from jade stone gambling.”
“Jade stone gambling? That stuff is a real gamble, with nine out of ten people losing money. Who knows if he’s telling the truth. Don’t mind me being nosy, but if Leo has done something illegal, you must divorce him to avoid getting us into trouble,” Jessica warned.
Sophia didn’t want to dwell on this topic with her mother and quickly headed to the kitchen.
Jessica also wanted to say something but was stopped by Martin, who then told her about something.
After hearing what Martin had to say, Jessica looked troubled and said, “Martin, maybe we shouldn’t go.”
“We’ve been friends for decades; it’s not appropriate to decline. Besides, we’ll be attending as friends,” Martin hesitated.
Jessica thought for a moment and made a decision, “Then let’s go, and we’ll drive there in the Audi A8!”
After dinner, Martin informed Sophia, Tina, and Leo about the plan.
The situation was like this: Martin’s old schoolmate, Jeffrey Hewlett, recently moved to a spacious mansion and wanted to invite Martin’s family to be their guests.
Martin and Jeffrey were high school and college buddies. Back when Martin’s family hadn’t moved to this neighborhood, they all lived in the same community, and their relationship had always been great.
Jeffrey had a son, and originally, he had planned for Martin’s elder daughter, Sophia, to become his daughter-in-law. However, due to Sophia falling ill with a strange condition and Leo’s arrival, that plan was put to rest.
Perhaps partly because of this, the bond between the two families had faded somewhat.
Martin was well aware that Jeffrey’s invitation was mostly about showing off. Additionally, Jeffrey mentioned that he had invited several other old classmates, essentially hosting an impromptu class reunion.
They couldn’t afford to slight their old classmates to avoid gossip, and since Jessica had agreed to it, they decided to go.
Tina, who typically had no enthusiasm for such events, made it clear that she wasn’t interested in attending.
In the end, Jessica made the decision: tomorrow evening, Leo would drive, taking her, Martin, and Sophia to Jeffrey’s house.
—
At the Seven Stars Sword Sect, inside a quiet tower.
“Janet, did you catch that guy named Leo?” Jeff asked, looking at Janet, who was shrouded in a black cloak.
Janet’s voice was low and ominous as she replied, “No, that guy is too formidable.”
“And Giles or Greg?” Jeff’s brow furrowed.
“They’re both dead, killed by that guy,” Janet answered.
Jeff was shocked, “Giles and Greg were at the middle-level martial master realm; how is that possible?”
Janet explained, “That guy is extraordinary, and he used talismans.”
“Talismans?! You mean the symbols that only spiritual cultivators can use?” Jeff was astonished.
“Exactly, if I hadn’t escaped quickly, I probably wouldn’t be here talking to you. You must be disappointed?” Janet’s voice took on an eerie tone.
Jeff quickly shook his head, saying, “Janet, your safety is the most important thing.”
The deaths of Giles and Greg were a heavy blow to Jeff because it greatly weakened the Seven Stars Sword Sect’s strength. In today’s martial arts world, it was incredibly difficult for a third-rate sect like theirs to cultivate a martial master. If the Fiery Blaze Sect or the Azure Cloud Sect found out about this, they might seize the opportunity to destroy the Seven Stars Sword Sect.
Thinking about these consequences weighed heavily on Jeff. He had intended to capture a spiritual cultivator alive, but it seemed like his plans had backfired.
Jeff was now determined to capture Leo alive, as this was the only chance for the Seven Stars Sword Sect to rise to prominence.
“Janet, does your poison have no effect on him?” Jeff asked about her poison.
“My poison couldn’t get near him because of the talisman attacks,” Janet replied, remembering the thunderbolt that had been sent towards her and still felt the fear.
