“What’s wrong with that useless Leo?” Fanny inquired.
“He called me just now, saying that Sophia is sick!” Bruno’s face displayed a cynical smile.
“Sick? But Sophia just answered your call a moment ago,” Fanny immediately grasped the situation. “Are you saying that Leo had Sophia fake being sick?”
“Absolutely!”
“So, what do we do now? Should we go see Sophia?”
“Yes, of course, we should. I want to see what illness Sophia supposedly has,” Bruno replied.
At eight in the evening, Bruno and Fanny appeared in the living room.
In the living room, only Leo was dragging a mop. He knew Bruno would come and had arranged things in advance after discussing with his mother-in-law Jessica.
“Leo, where’s Sophia?” Bruno nonchalantly lounged on the couch, legs crossed, and addressed Leo.
Leo sneered, “Bruno, you seem to be here to ask for a favor today, but your attitude won’t do.”
“Leo, stop pretending here. Get Sophia out; we have something to discuss with her,” Fanny commanded Leo directly.
“Sophia is sick and can’t come out. If you have something to discuss, wait until she’s better,” Leo retorted, dragging the mop towards Bruno’s feet.
Bruno quickly lifted his foot, disdainfully saying, “There are no tigers in the mountains; monkeys rule as kings. Where’s my uncle and aunt?”
“They’re not home either. If you have something to say, say it to me. If not, please leave and don’t hinder me from mopping the floor!” Leo impatiently stated.
“Leo, you should know your limits. Who do you think you are? You’re just a freeloader. You’re not qualified to have an equal conversation with us,” Fanny’s eyes exuded disdain. “Let me tell you the truth: Sophia securing the exclusive agency rights for Herbal Magic Cosmetics Company means you’re being cheated on!”
As Fanny finished speaking, Leo suddenly appeared in front of her, looking down at her with a threatening gaze.
Such an insult, how could Leo not be angry?
Feeling Leo’s chilling and menacing aura, Fanny, seated on the couch, instinctively shrank her neck and nervously uttered, “Le-Leo, what do you intend to do?”
“I’m warning you, if you dare say one more bad thing about Sophia, I’ll kill you!” Leo’s voice was as cold as a blade.
Fanny’s lips moved twice, wanting to say something, but she couldn’t muster a word.
Fanny had always looked down on Leo, but today, she felt that this person, whom she considered a waste, wasn’t bluffing. The intent to kill in his eyes was evident; he might actually kill her.
Just then, Jessica and Martin descended from upstairs.
“Bruno, Fanny, why have you come?” Jessica pretended not to know, looking somewhat surprised.
“Uncle, Aunt, your useless son-in-law threatened Fanny here, saying he’ll kill her!” Bruno quickly complained.
“Leo, you’re audacious. You have no say in this household. Get out of the way and continue mopping!” Jessica signaled to Leo with her eyes.
“Bruno, both of you came without prior notice. Is there something you need?” Jessica asked with a smile.
Bruno furrowed his brows. That aunt of his, why did her smile seem so fake?
“Uncle, Aunt, the thing is, since Sophia secured the exclusive agency rights for Herbal Magic Cosmetics Company, we’re here today to discuss the cooperation details with Mr. Simpson,” Bruno explained.
Jessica looked surprised, “From what I knew, weren’t you and Fanny supposed to handle the negotiations? Is there a problem?”
Bruno’s face showed embarrassment, “I don’t know what’s gotten into Mr. Simpson. He insists that Sophia herself should be involved in the negotiations, so-”
“Ah, I see. Unfortunately, Sophia fell seriously ill and won’t be able to go to Herbal Magic Cosmetics Company,” Jessica said regretfully.
Bruno’s lips twitched twice, “Aunt, earlier in the evening, I called Sophia. She didn’t seem sick.”
“Just an hour ago, Sophia suddenly fell ill,” Jessica said, appearing distressed.
“Since she’s sick, can I go see her?” Bruno asked again.
“Probably not. Sophia has a severe cold, and it’s contagious,” Jessica shook her head.
Bruno fell silent. He understood-it was all orchestrated!
“Fanny, let’s go!” Bruno got up and gestured to leave the living room.
Fanny gave Leo, who was still mopping, a deep look, said nothing, and followed Bruno out.
Jessica looked at Leo, “You can stop mopping; the act is over.”
Leo paused his work and said calmly, “Dad, Mom, the decision to change the collaborating partner was made by Grandma. If Sophia is to go to Herbal Magic Cosmetics Company, Grandma must personally plead with her.”
This statement was like a bombshell, making Jessica and Martin feel a tingling sensation on their scalps.
What kind of joke was this? Who did the old lady think she was? How could she possibly personally plead with Sophia?
Martin stared at Leo as if he were an idiot, “Leo, do you even know what you just said?”
“Leo, have you considered that if the old lady convenes a board meeting and removes Sophia as the general manager, you’ll be left with nothing?”
Jessica knew well how ruthless the old lady could be, but she seemed to have forgotten that Leo was now a person with a substantial annual salary.
“Dad, Mom, based on my understanding of Grandma, she will definitely come,” Leo’s face brimmed with confidence.
With that, Leo prepared to take the mop to the bathroom.
“Stop right there!” Jessica suddenly called out.
Leo turned to look at her.
“Leo, do you remember the agreement we made a few days ago?”
“Agreement?” Leo hesitated, unsure of what Jessica was referring to.
“The marriage contract!” Jessica reminded him.
Leo recollected, “Mom, I don’t want to divorce Sophia.”
Jessica’s smile turned cold, “It’s not about whether you want a divorce or not. Leo, do you think your words hold any weight in this household?”
Leo didn’t know how to answer.
“Now, I’m going to lay out my conditions. If you can’t meet them, I don’t think you should delay Sophia’s happiness any longer.”
“Mom, what conditions? Please tell me.”
As long as it wasn’t about murder or arson, Leo believed he could handle it.
“I want to move into the one of Clouddream Mountain’s villas!” Jessica stated her condition.
Martin was taken aback. Had his wife also caught the “Leo fever” and gone insane?
That villa in the Clouddream Mountain area wasn’t something money alone could buy.
