With a command given, the police started apprehending people.
A police officer rushed in front of Leo, looking at the spring-loaded knife in his hand and shouted, “Drop the knife!”
Leo tossed the knife on the ground. He couldn’t risk any other actions now. If he were charged with assaulting a police officer, things would get complicated.
The police officer pulled out handcuffs and cuffed Leo. With a cold sneer, he said, “Good boy, daring to wield a knife, let’s go!”
Leo, Ken, and the others were led to the police car.
Sophia rushed over anxiously, “Officer, you’ve got the wrong person. He acted in self-defense!”
The leading male police officer looked at Sophia and asked, “Who are you to him?”
“I’m his wife.”
“Ma’am, don’t worry. Once we’re back at the station, we’ll investigate everything thoroughly. We won’t wrong a good person. Take him away!” The leading officer waved his hand.
“Leo!” Sophia was now frantic.
Leo smiled and reassured her, “It’s okay, I acted in self-defense. The police will look into it. You should go home first and don’t tell Mom about this. I’ll be back home tonight.”
As Sophia watched Leo being pushed into the police car, tears welled up in her eyes.
It had been a long time since she had shed tears, but today, she cried for Leo. Everything this man did was to protect her.
Sophia forced back her tears, not letting them fall. She had to go home for now and wait for the outcome. If Leo didn’t return tonight, she would find a way to ask for help.
At the local police station…
During this crackdown program on crime, anyone involved in fights and brawls would usually end up in the police station. Because Leo had been seen holding a knife, he received special “attention” and was locked in an interrogation room, furnished with only three chairs and a table.
After waiting for a long time, no police officer had come in. Leo couldn’t help but call out twice.
Over ten minutes later, the door opened, and two police officers walked in, one of them holding a notebook and a pen.
They sat down in the chairs in front of the table.
“You, spill it. Why did you start a fight?” The officer without the notebook asked.
“I acted in self-defense. If you don’t believe me, you can check the surveillance footage in the market.” Leo defended himself.
“The internal cameras at the market are broken.”
The words from the officer with the notebook instantly sank Leo’s heart.
Such rotten luck!
“People at the market saw it. It was that guy Ken who attacked me first, and I defended myself.”
“We’ve questioned people at the market, and they said you were the one who attacked. The officer without the notebook’s voice grew cold.
Indeed, the world was full of such kind of people. Leo smirked, “You won’t believe me no matter what I say. So, what are you planning to do?”
The officer with the pen slammed the table, shouting, “This is a police station. Don’t act tough with me! We’re conducting a routine interrogation. Answer our questions honestly!”
The questioning began with one officer asking Leo for his basic information, and Leo answered truthfully.
Then they asked about the incident, and Leo explained everything step by step.
Shortly after, the two officers stood up, exchanged glances, and left.
This left Leo puzzled. He hurriedly yelled, “I acted in self-defense. I’m the victim here. Let me out!”
No one paid him any attention, and the unsettling silence continued.
After over an hour passed, a younger police officer came in and removed Leo’s handcuffs.
“You can leave now,” the young officer said.
Hearing this, Leo breathed a sigh of relief. If he had been detained, it would’ve been a nightmare.
As Leo walked out of the police station, he saw a Toyota parked there. Standing next to it was a woman-quite a voluptuous one.
“Did you get me out?” Leo walked over to Madame Godwin and asked.
“What do you think?” Madame Godwin looked up at the starry sky.
“Why did you help me?”
Leo couldn’t quite understand. This female police officer had just fought with him not too long ago, yet now she was helping him. Women were truly mysterious creatures.
“I didn’t help you. I’m searching for the truth,” Madame Godwin said and opened the driver’s door.
“Searching for the truth?” Leo was even more confused.
“Get in the car.”
Leo opened the passenger door and got in.
“I’ll give you a ride home.”
“Do you know where I live?” Leo asked, feeling silly as the words left his mouth. This female officer had clearly investigated him, so of course, she knew where he lived.
After driving for a while, Madame Godwin suddenly asked, “Can I see your needles?”
“Needles?” Leo was puzzled for a moment, then quickly understood. He took out his silver needle case.
Madame Godwin glanced sideways, “You know traditional Chinese medicine?”
“A little.”
“Are you a martial artist?”
Madame Godwin’s question left Leo stunned for a moment, unable to respond for a while.
“What’s the matter, afraid to admit it?”
“How did you know?” Leo was increasingly convinced that this female police officer was no ordinary person.
“I’ve fought you before. Your reactions and strength aren’t something an ordinary person can possess. Plus, you subdued a criminal with flying needles. Only a martial artist could do that!” Madame Godwin revealed her inference.
Her deduction was indeed logical.
“And how did you know about martial artists?” Since he had been pegged already, Leo could only play along.
“You don’t need to know that. I just want to remind you, I’m keeping my eyes on you. If you dare to do anything wrong, I won’t be the first to let you off!” Madame Godwin issued a warning.
At the entrance of the villa complex, Leo unbuckled his seatbelt and smiled, “Officer, how about coming in for a bit?”
“Don’t bother with that. Just get out!”
After Leo exited the car, he saw the Toyota make a turn and accelerate into the night.
Leo shook his head and chuckled before walking into the complex.
Entering his house, Jessica and Sophia were both sitting on the couch.
Seeing Leo returning, Sophia stood up excitedly, “Are you okay?”
“Just worked overtime. What could happen?” Leo chuckled.
Jessica lowered the TV volume and cleared her throat in dissatisfaction, “Leo, do you know where Sophia went today?”
“I have no idea.” Leo couldn’t understand what his mother-in-law meant by asking that.
Jessica got up from the couch. In the past, she would’ve probably berated Leo directly, but today she held back.
“Sophia went to the market to buy groceries! She’s never been to a market her entire life! This was originally your job, and now she’s doing it for you. You’ve been negligent. Do you know that!?”
